Being Christmas time, Sophie has made a Christmas wish....to be loved for herself and not for her title or dowry. I love Christmas stories and this one is a very tender and delightful one. It involves an abandoned baby, Sophie who is a Duke's daughter and Wim who is a Baron. Secrets are kept, decisions need to be made, past heartbreaks need to be addressed, falling in love was not expected and families need to stick together.

I have to say, I so enjoyed Sophie's brothers, I could just picture all their antics and the way they talked to each other:) Lord Baby Kit is also absolutely precious!! Some readers might think the story went on too much about how to take care of a baby but it didn't bother me.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Grace Burrowes is a hit or miss author for me, but Lady Sophie’s Christmas Wish was definitely a hit. I loved Sophie and Vim’s relationship and how their romance developed; I didn’t think the baby plot was overkill. Having read her brothers’ books, I enjoyed seeing them appear here and what they added to the strip. Overall, I found this to be a sweet story that was enjoyable.

I actually enjoyed most of Lady Sophie's Christmas Wish by the always excellent Grace Burrowes, but the story kept getting in its own way.

Grace Burrowes is a talented author, but I found this story to be unnecessarily complicated. I jumped into the series at this book, but I know it's also the 4th in the Windham series... and it felt like it. There were characters and backstories thrust at me without context, and I felt a little unmoored. Plus, there were waaaaaaaay too many POVs. Like, 5+ too many POVs. Keep it simple, Grace!

Some readers might not have enjoyed all of the baby content because, let's be honest, there was a lot of it, and it got a bit... detailed at times. However, I really liked how the two MCs bonded over this little baby. It felt organic and interesting. I've read a lot of historical romance, and I haven't read anything quite like this story.

Sure, it wasn't as cohesive and tight as it could have been, but I fell for this story and these characters. If we didn't keep head-hopping, I would have given this book 4 full stars, but I would still recommend it to Grace Burrowes fans.

Meh. I love Grace Burrowes.

No kidding.

But this supposed-to-be-light-and-fun-and-cheesy Christmas novel was a little too much of a BABYSITTING guide than romance, many people pointed this out and I felt exactly the same while reading this novel. There were lots of POVs that deterred me from a perfect flow, too.

It starts of with Sophie discovering an abandoned baby and refuses to leave him so now she must look after him, problem is she doesn’t know shit about taking care of a baby and is then rescused by our hero Vik Carpentier, who helps her.

They expected to last a night and be freed but its days and days before they can leave each other’s vicinity and by then THE CUPID HAS DONE IT’S WORK. Lol.

Her brothers are like a thorn in their sides but Vim is determined.

It was a super cute Christmas novella, not my favourite but so good nevertheless ♥️

Lady Sophie Windham, beautiful, independent, and, at 27, nearing spinsterhood, is stuck at the family's London mansion with an abandoned baby while a fierce snowstorm rages. Luckily for her, a handsome and kind stranger, Wilhelm "Vim" Charpentier, Baron Sindal, arrives at her door and helps feed and change the baby. There’s just something so appealing about a man who loves and takes care of babies. The concept of a 19th century aristocrat changing nappies is pretty unrealistic, but who cares? At first, he mistakes her for a servant, so the social proprieties are ignored and they are able to act on the passion that flares between them. Then, all too soon, her 3 brothers arrive to take her to the ducal estate in Kent and her true identity is revealed. Given that Vim has nursed a 10-year grudge against her father, the going gets very rough until they work through their issues and can be together. Like any good Regency romance, there are misunderstandings, temporary heartbreak, and family dynamics at work, but the resolution is the sweeter for it.

My only disappointment in reading this book is that it’s the last in the series for me (originally published in 2011 and recently reissued). It's been such a treat reading about the large, loving Windham family. I read them out of order, and I definitely saved the best for last. Burrowes is one of the best contemporary authors of historical romances, so if you are a fan of the genre and haven't treated yourself to one of her books, I highly recommend beginning with the two novellas that started the Windham saga, The Courtship and The Duke and His Duchess. You won’t be disappointed!

This is a typical Grace Burrowes book. The heroine is a member of the prolific and entertaining Windham family. She has arranged to be alone for a few days before Christmas to contemplate her feeling of loneliness. Suddenly she finds herself responsible for a baby boy and needing the help of Vim Charpentier. They quickly build a close relationship as they take care of the baby in the empty house. Their conversation over the baby is charming and entertaining to read. Eventually the book drags a bit as they acknowledge their attraction to each other and then keep stepping back from the romance that they are clearly destined to have. It doesn’t even seem clear what is holding them back and I felt myself growing impatient with them. Vim refers to some catastrophic moment in his past that has kept him traveling the world for years instead of settling down with the family that loves him on the estate he is due to inherit. When the cause of his dislike of that home is revealed, it is so demonstrably silly that I can’t believe that a supposedly intelligent and thoughtful man would carry on about such a silly moment.

I always enjoy Burrowes’ writing, but this story could have been about 100 pages shorter and been much more enjoyable.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Lady Sophie’s Christmas wish is the story of sensible big hearted Sophia Windham. She’s th good daughter no one has to worry about until she’s left alone at Christmas time in Town. With her brothers on the way, she gets in to quite an adventure.

A baby is left behind, a man has gone astray and is held up by a winter storm. Is it the recipe for a Christmas miracle?

It’s a good story that I seriously enjoyed a lot.

What a great read! Lady Sophia Wyndham has schemed to have some time alone before joining all of her family for Christmas. Of course this alone time flies out the window when she finds herself with a baby and a man as houseguests.
I love how Lady Sophia is a strong, capable and sensible character who also has honest emotions. She’s a complicated character who is realistic. Com Charpentier, our hero, is also multifaceted and who can resist a man who is capable with a baby?!?!
The background characters are also wonderful! I’ve always loved the Wyndham family with their scheming. They seem so high and mighty until one of their own needs a nudge to have a happy ending:)
Vim’s family is just as sweet in this book though. His aunt and uncle have schemed to get him back to the family seat and they are determined to help him have a happy ending.
The characters take centre stage in this book and make it a wonderful adventure to read.
Thank you to Grace Burrowes, the publisher and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lady Sophie’s Christmas Wish is a striking and noteworthy tale, brilliantly bringing together people whom should never have meet if not for an abandoned child in the eve of Christmas celebrations.

I know I’m rather new to Mrs Grace Burrowes world, but so far, I have not been disappointed, and this one story confirm her as an auto-but author for me. She crafts lively lovely tales about second chances, celebrating bonds of kinship.

Just a few lines in the book and I was sucked in. The opening pages were awesomely sweet and funny. I smiled and laughed at Kit obviously natural mischievousness.
I do loved his Lord Baby.

The main couple is a duet of very lovable characters, they are kind and caring and together they make the perfect item.
I can only praise how Mrs Burrowes slowly brought them together, from two perfect strangers to lovers willing to move create an already build-up family.
Sophie is the sensible one of ten siblings, a “smootherer”, she helps the others getting better, getting back on their steps. Why on the first thing, she finds herself with an abandoned child on her lap, unknowingly he is a partial answer to her longing.
Vim is back to the English soil, quite reluctant to go back to his family seat, and Lady Sophie’s predicament is the utter opportunity to delay his trip while enjoying the compagnie of a woman who awaken everything he thought deeply buried therein.

This was a story with multiple points of view, at first I confess it intrigued me then as the plot unfolded, it was the ideal approach for a Christmas tale, as it was cheering the narrative with the witty dialogues and banters between the side characters.

It was so fun to get a glimpse and even a bit more than that of the relatives from both sides.
I haven’t read any of the previous related books but I never felt lost at any moment.
It is a delightful romance which saw Sophie and Vim find their way to another but it is also a tribute to unconditional love, between siblings, lovers, parent to child, man and woman to an abandoned infant...

If you haven’t already read this wondrous story like me, don’t miss this re-release sets to brighten the last part of the year.

« “What did you wish, Sophie?” “I wished you were my Christmas, wished you could be all my Christmases.” »

Grace Burrowes is one of my top ten favorite authors. The characters are well developed, interesting and real and I feel as if I am right there with the characters. Another lovely story by Burrowes , don't miss this one.

Lady Sophia is the reliable one of the Duke's children. She is the one whom her parents have never had to worry about. With the Christmas season approaching, all Sophie wants is some solitude before family time. Christmas is supposed to be a time of enjoyment and merriment, but for Sophia, it isn't. She lost her brother around Christmas time, her other remaining brothers have been married and moved away, just one more reminder that her heart's desire hasn't been fulfilled. Her Christmas wish us for a man who loves and cherishes her and whom she can return those same feelings.

Wilhelm Charpentier, or Vim as he is known by his friends, is traveling to his family home for a required visit. He has been out and about sailing and trading since he was a young man. He came home only to keep accounts in order and then to be on his way as soon as possible.

With a snowstorm that seems neverending, Sophia invites Vim to the house to help with a newly abandoned child and give him a decent place to stay until the storm lets up. Vim is not aware of who Lady Sophia is, and she is not forthcoming with her titles. She soon finds herself yearning and feeling for Vim, she cannot deny that her heart has made its choice. She cannot help but wonder what it would be like to have his love and to be cherished by this man. Will Sophia and Vim have a chance at love? Will Sophia's station on life be too much for Vim?

I absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down. The wording, the flow of conversation, and the characters were so easy to love and read about. It almost seemed very elegantly written, very much in the tune of the time. Even the private scenes we're very much written well, not raunchy or explicit. Everything in this book was written with the same flow and elegance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Sourcebook Casablanca Publishing via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a delightful tale. I really enjoyed the story of Wilhelm (Vim) and Sophia's (Sophie) along with Baby Kit (My Lord Baby). Unfortunately this is the first story of the series that I have read. It was just a little confusing as to the order and circumstances of birth of all of Sophie's siblings. Getting past that was easy if you just concentrate on the story though. There were scenes that had me laughing so hard and others were I couldn't stop the tears. While I so enjoy an English historical told in the proper English way, I was extremely happy to be reading on an e-reader. There were terms that just eluded my comprehension but reading a historical romance is such an enjoyable way to learn.

I adored Vim and Sophie both. The way that they came together to care for Kit. Poor Kit, his mother abandons him to into her employer's care the wonderful Lady Sophia. Neither Sophie or Vim use their title when introducing themselves at the inn where they meet during London's worst snowstorm. This causes a great deal of mix-up between the characters and their intentions later!

I did enjoy the multiple POV format that the author used. Getting into the different characters' mind really helped me to understand and enjoy them so much better.

There were some bedroom scenes that were not written in graphic detail but would be more appropriate for someone over 18. If you enjoy a good historical romance, you may enjoy this one. The only con for me, there were some places that just seemed a little unnecessary and added to the word count but it did not detract from the story.

Sophie and Vim are a great couple. This is a wonderful Christmas book that romance readers will enjoy.

Reissue, previously released in 2011. Can't go wrong with a Grace Burrowes book. Lady Sophie wants a few days without the hustle and bustle of family. She becomes trapped by a snowstorm and an abandoned baby, and a stranger. A fun romance

I enjoy Ms. Burrowes books and this one was another enjoyable read. Vim Charpentier is on his way home to Kent for Christmas when he comes across Sophie Windham struggling to calm a fussy baby. When he steps up to help, he has no idea his life is about to change. Sophie Windham is out of her depth when she discovers the her maid has abandoned her infant son into her care. Problem is she has no idea how to care for an infant. When a handsome gentleman offers to help, Sophie is intrigued with the mysterious Vim Charpentier.

This was a sweet story of a growing friendship turning into a romantic liaison. I was glad to see that Vim and Sophie did not have the "insta-love" that many books have, but their attraction grew out of their continued care of the child. I did think that Sophie was being stubborn especially when Vim proposed a couple of times. The scandal involving Vim that kept him from his future seat in Kent was a bit weak, but in the end all obstacles were overcome and these two were able to have their happily ever after.

This was a delightful read, it's a little daring for the time period that it is set in but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's more of a fanciful magical Christmas romance story, of how Vim and Sophie just happened to be in the right place at the right time for them to meet and become involved, and while Sophie is unchaperoned the entire time of their involvement it just isn't what would have been allowed and her brothers would definitely not have been so understanding about it all. I still very much enjoyed how the story played out as the writing was good and I liked both of the characters of Vim and Sophie. This being my first book to have read by this author I would definitely read something by them again in the future.

Lady Sophie Windham is soon to join her family for Christmas in Kent. However, she decides to take a few days for herself. In so doing, she runs across an abandoned baby and finds herself assisted by Vim Charpentier. Vim is also headed to Kent, and he is none too pleased about it. When Vim realizes that Sophie has no idea how to care for the baby, he offers his assistance.

Vim is quite drawn to Sophie, but he thinks she must be a cook or a maid so he focuses on the baby, Kit. It does not take long for both Sophie and Vim to fall in love with the little fellow. There are several problems, however. For starters, they should not be alone in the mansion where they are currently staying. Furthermore, neither Vim nor Sophie know of each other's true identity. During their time together they engage in serious conversations and Vim slowly begins to share painful memories with Sophie.

Meanwhile, Sophie knows that her three brothers will be arriving soon, and, for reasons that are very important to her, she is keeping secrets from Vim. Sophie finds herself in a sensitive predicament. Not only has she fallen in love with Kit, she may just have fallen in love with Vim. Sophie is holding out for true love, nothing less, so she struggles to hide her feelings from Vim.

I love that this story centered around Kit. He was a a delight and proved to be the catalyst behind what happens for Sophie and Vim. How wonderful for the author to use such a young character in such an influential way. This book started off remarkably well and shaped into a warm and affecting romance.

Lady Sophie's Christmas Wish is a re-release and that makes me quite happy. Otherwise, I am not sure that I would have known of this book or this series. I have read books by Grace Burrowes before and I definitely enjoy her writing. Being able to grab this book, all while anticipating the rest of the series, was truly wonderful.

Many thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Good for a light read if you want something a bit fluffy. Very far fetched and switched perspectives too often for my liking but on the whole it wasn't a terrible book.
I will say that I love how Grace Burrowes writes her characters and I usually thoroughly enjoy her books but this one just wasn't The One for me.
3 stars.
