In Kendra Elliot’s A Merciful Promise the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) needs a replacement undercover agent for their investigation into a survivalist/militia group in possession of a unknown quantity of firearms. Past history already shows us how well that will end. No spoiler here.
Anyhow, FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick seems a perfect fit as a trained agent, knowledgeable of Oregon, raised by preppers and still partially sharing their mindset. With only two days for learning her role Mercy is sent to join another agent already embedded in the survivalist compound. Mercy is totally isolated, no way to communicate with the outside world, unable even to tell her fiancé, Eagle’s Nest Police Chief Truman Daly where she will be or for how long.
Mercy’s career as an undercover for ATF quickly ends for various reasons, including her inability to keep her mouth shut about the appalling conditions surrounding the children of the compound. More than her career is about to end until she finds some surprising help. Unfortunately she goes from frying pan into fire, a very cold fire. At least this way she has a chance to survive.
Meanwhile, Truman is confronted by bodies of men being found scattered around the area. He has three bodies to contend with, acting as a partial distraction to Mercy’s absence.
When Truman is finally notified about Mercy’s situation, he goes on the hunt for Mercy himself after being horrified by the federal response to in cancelling the search for Mercy. Quelle surprise!
Elliot writes fascinating characters and original plots, she brings the reader right into the thick of things. I never felt like a passive reader. Throughout the series of Mercy Kilpatrick and Truman Daly she has introduced a whole new world to me of location, people and mindsets. A Merciful Promise is no exception
The series might be marketed as romantic suspense, but some of the relationships, crimes and characters have been extremely painful and hardcore, not much soft or cozy to be found. Not to say there isn’t strong love in its various guises, but it is the quiet theme running throughout the background.
Most of the relationship issues that Mercy has with her family are solved in this final book of this outstanding series. Unfortunately the secondary characters who have been so important to the series are rarely in evidence.
Oh yes, the silver threads of fate that Mercy first sees in A Merciful Secret and tying her forever to Truman, are in evidence, bringing this series to a lovely end.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange of a fair and honest review.

Wow what a fantastic ending to the fantastic Mercy Kilpatrick series !!! I’m absolutely blown away this was definitely my favourite in the series it kept me hooked the whole way thorough and had all the heart stopping moments we’ve come to know love and expect from this amazing author !!!!
We find Mercy being sent deep undercover to a military base and not being allowed any contact with the outside world and nobody not even Truman can know where she is! Speaking of Truman he has his hands full with numerous murders taking place ... can they be linked to Mercy’s investigation and will Mercy make it home in time for their wedding ....only time will tell !!!!
This is a total edge of your seat adrenaline ride and and can’t recommend this series this author and all of her other books highly enough .... holding my breath and very impatiently waiting for what’s next !!!!!!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kendra Elliot for the arc of A Merciful Promise my review is honest and unbiased.

Mercy Kikpatrick has an unusual background, especially for an FBI SA but that has made her perfect for infiltrating radical groups. This time out, she finds herself in deeper water than she expected. Her fiancé, Truman, police chief in Eagle's Nest, has his own problems- there have been execution style murders (yes, suspend belief that things will happen the way they do). If you haven't read this series, you'll be fine with this as a standalone but then, sad, like me, that this is going to be the last one. I was hoping to spend more time with these two (and I know the author says they will turn up as characters in future novels but it won't be the same.). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Terrific characters and a topical plot make this a good read.

First I'm really sad to see this amazing series ending, but this book was really a befitting finale.

Mercy has to infiltrate and defuse a terrorist group and things rapidly escalates with a growing number of dead bodies dumped randomly.

The pace is as always nail biting with tons of edge of your seat suspense and a great ending.
I can't wait to see what Ms. Elliot has in store for us after this wonderful series.

Thanks Netgalley, Montlake Romance, and author Kendra Elliot for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Mercy goes undercover in a remote militia/cult community to find and stop a terrorist plot. Truman is left with no way to communicate or even know where she is. Bodies start getting dumped and Truman is trying to connect the dots.I can’t believe this is the last book in this series. I’m going to miss them so much. This book was super fast paced. Lots of nail biting, edge of your seat suspense. I’m very happy with the way the series ended just sad to see them go.I know Ms Elliot will come up with another great series to read in the future. She never disappoints.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
Mercy Kilpatrick takes a last minute undercover job that will test all her skills. Will being raised by preppers and being trained by the FBI be enough to get her out of a very deadly situation?

A Merciful Promise is the sixth and final book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series. I am sad to see this series come to an end. In this last installment Mercy and Truman are tested again. I did find the story a little slow but was still a great story and showed us how strong Mercy and Truman are as a team.

I honestly hope that this is not the last time we see Mercy and Truman.

I am very much looking forward to what Kendra has in store for us next.

Mercy an FBI agent and Truman a local sheriff are planning their wedding. When Mercy gets called in to stand in for an ATF agent on a secret undercover mission Mercy isn't even able to tell Truman what she is doing or where she is going just that she has to leave early the following day. She has to pretend to be another undercover agents girlfriend who has already infiltrated a group of militia/conspiracy/theorist/illegal arms buying group who have plans to attack somewhere to make a statement. The original ATF agent has been taken ill so Mercy is asked to stand in. The action starts for Mercy almost as soon as she arrives in the camp. In the meantime Truman has a case of his own where a body is found dead and naked in a nearby property of a friend of Mercy's followed by a second and third body.

This is the first book of the series that I have read and the characters are well developed there are several references to previous books or events that have happened in previous books such as how Mercy and Truman have met being one of the things. I have decided to read the other books after reading this one. It's quite an easy read something you don't have to concentrate on too much the story flows well although some of it was a little predictable. There are a few plot twists that I had guessed before they had happened but it is a good read. Personally I would read the other books in the series before this one. This is the last in this series so finishes off quite nicely.

If you are looking for a light read but with a little romance and action in it this is perfect for curling up in a comfy chair and losing yourself for a while. I would give this 4 stars out of 5.

I thank net galley for giving me an ARC to read and this review is totally unbiased.

Omg I can’t believe this is the end of the series, but Kendra Elliot does it well! This is a romantic suspense novel, but light on the romance. Mercy finds herself infiltrating a militia group that have stollen weapons, while she is here she can have absolutely no outside contact and her family doesn’t even know where she is. Meanwhile Truman is starting to get a lot of bodies piling up, and it ends up connecting with her case they soon find that she is in danger! This had me on the edge of my seat. This book will not disappoint.

(4 stars) - an intense drama

This is a romantic suspense that's more suspense than romance. It's an exciting story & well told, though a little grimmer than what I'm used to. I'm surprised the FBI would allow their agent to be sent in blind with no form of emergency contact or backup. The happily-ever-after is really sweet.

Clean romance level: a person realizes a couple in the distance is having sex but no graphic details are given
*There is a threat of rape that may be traumatic for some readers*

Language: there are f-bombs though they're not excessive

Religion: half dozen uses of the Lord's Name in vain

The Wall Street Journal bestselling series continues as Mercy Kilpatrick becomes embedded in the nightmare of a terrorist conspiracy.

The job: infiltrate a militia amassing illegal firearms in an isolated forest community. FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick is the ideal candidate. She knows Oregon. She’s near the compound. And having been raised among survivalists, Mercy understands the mind-set of fanatics. Lay low, follow rules, do nothing to sound an alarm, and relinquish all contact with the outside world. She’s ready to blend in.

As Mercy disappears into the winter hills, something just as foreboding emerges. Mercy’s fiancé, Eagle’s Nest police chief Truman Daly, is faced with a puzzling series of murders—three men dumped in random locations after execution-style shootings.

Now, for Mercy, trapped in a culture where suspicion is second nature, and betrayal is punishable to the extreme, there is no way out. No way to call for help. And as plans for a catastrophic terrorist event escalate, there may be no way to stop them. Even if Mercy dies trying.

My Thoughts

Cannot believe that have now finished the last adventure with Mercy and the rest.

The 6 books in this series gave me a cast of characters that I have grown to enjoy over the course of reading and will miss them.

Mercy Kilpatrick is a strong female lead and yet as she has shown over the course of the series even the strongest person finds that it is better to be a part of a group than alone and lonely.

Said group includes an eclectic mix of people, several from different law enforcement teams, townspeople of Eagle’s Nest, Mercy’s family members, Truman Daly and so many others that have introduced themselves over the course of the series.

The most consistent theme running through these books is one that I have not been exposed to and that is how Mercy grew up in a family of Preppers and is in turn herself one, just no to the extreme of some of the older generation like her father.

What really stands out to me from the first book through to this 6th and final one is how the descriptions have been so solid and vividly brought to life each scene for the reader.

This finale for the series combined such a gamut of emotions it was hard to not succumb but well worth powering past the more intense ones and keep going.

As the tension grew with each successive chapter in this story so did my anxiety as the fate of our FBI Special Agent became unclear.

Luckily for me the author kept the suspense thick which made the chapters fly by rapidly and a little over 300 pages felt like mere moments went by and the last page was turned.

Wonderful ending to a wonderful set of books!

4 star Review A Merciful Promise (Mercy Kilpatrick #6) by Kendra Elliot

Kendra Elliott os a new author to me. I had no idea going in to this book that it was the last book in the series. From my reading experience it would be best to read them in order.

The is a romantic suspense story and I enjoyed getting to know these characters. With fast paced action and a thrilling story line you cannot help but be drawn into the world created by Kendra Elliott.

Mercy Kilpatrick is an FBI agent who goes undercover in Oregon with a military group to find evidence and information on their plans. Not even her fiancee Eagle’s Nest police chief Truman Daly has an idea where she is or the nature of the job she is on.

Complications arise when Mercy is cut off from the outside world with only herself to depend on. Will Mercy be able keep her cover or will her truth be discovered?

I was invested in the story and couldn’t wait to see how it all panned out. The characters were strong and easy to relate too. The suspense and danger felt real and I enjoyed watching Mercy handle herself in the difficult and dangerous situations she faced.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.

Another awesome book. I get so involved with the action and people in these books. I want to know what happens next.. I am sad that this is the last Mercy book. I would read more of these books. They have both suspense and romance. Hopefully Mercy and her clan will show up in other books. Truly a sign of a good book/series is caring enough about the characters to want to know how their life unfolds.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Kendra Elliot draws you into the story and doesn't let go until the very end! If you have read the previous books you probably feel like Mercy is your sister and all you want to do is save her from the perilous adventures she gets into. Fabulous book. Enjoy! 📚

A heart pounding sixth adventure as F.B.I. Special Agent Mercy Kilpatrick reluctantly agrees to go undercover in a militia compound. She will assist an undercover A.T.F. agent who is already embedded in the compound, searching for information about stolen weapons and a possible terrorist attack. Things begin to go wrong shortly after Mercy arrives and there is no way to contact her fiancé, Eagle’s Nest Police Chief Truman Daly or her F.B.I. team. While Truman is concerned about Mercy’s safety, especially not knowing the what and where of her out of town assignment, he is dealing with three separate men who have been murdered. The bodies have been dumped in three separate areas, shot execution style. When authorities decide to take action against the compound, will Mercy be found alive? Once Truman realizes the danger Mercy is in, neither the F.B.I or A.T.F. will be able to keep him away from searching for Mercy. She is a strong, capable woman and agent and uses her strength of will to do what she has to do to survive. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. If you are starting the Mercy Kilpatrick I highly recomended you start with book one to better understand the cast of characters that will be flowing in and out of the story. Kendra Elliot never disappoints with her amazing ability to twist tense story lines, emotions that are found in and outside of books, and a cast of characters that will show you what life can be even though it wasn't what they ever expected.

A merciful Promise is the last in the series and I want to scream no. I feel like readers have still only seen a small piece of Mercy and who she is what whom she will become. Truman awesome male lead who isn't the traditional alpha male but the perfect blend to help Mercy survive the worst days of her life.

A Merciful Promise is a pulse pounding, adventure that will have readers biting their lips just as Mercy has to bite hers.
Cast of characters from all of the Mercy novels will find there way into this book thought secondary story line along with moments of peace and fear.
The author has the ability to pull readers into her world and never lets you go until the last word is printed on the paper.
Thank you to Netgalley the publisher and the author for the advance copy of Kendra Elliot A Merciful Promise.

An intense, fast-paced, action-packed ending to the series…

This is the sixth book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series that can be read as a stand-alone but you’ll have more of an understanding of the motivations of the main characters if you’ve followed the series.

The ATF, in search of stolen weapons, have infiltrated an Oregon militia group they believe involved in the theft and current intelligence has the militia planning some unknown action with those weapons. Now the ATF has a problem, their undercover male agent was to be joined by a female agent who has become ill and the militia are expecting a new recruit. Needing someone qualified with similar looks led them to FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick. At first, Mercy declines the assignment request, she’s three months away from her wedding to Police Chief Truman Daly and this mission requires her to go in and have no contact with her fiancé or the family they’ve made with her niece, his ward and two pets. After hearing the stakes she agrees to go in for a few weeks and she has only 24 hours to learn her cover before she heads out. Not being able to communicate with Truman or even let him know where she’ll be or how long she’ll be gone does not sit well with either her or Truman.

When Mercy arrives at the militia’s compound she realizes she’s not sure she can trust her undercover partner who days later doesn’t return from an errand outside of the compound. She’s alone in a brutal environment that doesn’t treat women well and it will take all her knowledge and experience to survive, hopefully, complete the mission, and return home. Though she’s only four hours away from home the distance seems greater for the lack of contact with those she loves.

While Mercy is away, Truman has a criminal puzzle to solve keeping him occupied but not distracting him from worrying about how Mercy is. Dead bodies are being dumped in the general area that were shot in the head and stripped to their underwear, not all within Truman’s jurisdiction, the similarities of the cases connect the different police departments. The identity of the third victim changes everything, sending Truman searching for Mercy whether the ATF or FBI allows him to.

If you’ve read the previous books then you know how much this couple has already been through, the level of connection they have is rare and precious, it’s what gave Mercy the strength to fight to survive and Truman the will to search and not give up. I was saddened to learn that this is the last book in the series, I will miss these unique, captivating characters. This was a wonderful culmination to the series, an intense, fast-paced, action-packed storyline that keeps your attention and has you praying for the two main protagonists to succeed, both points of views are provided. The reader leaves them to a promising future, a beginning after a wedding that was perfect for them.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.

FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick’s latest case is difficult yet right up her alley: Infiltrate a militia that rumors are saying are massing illegal weapons and more. Mercy is the ideal person for the job. She knows the area (Oregon) and was raised by survivalists. She knows how these people think. The rules which are simple are: lay low, follow their rules and try to do nothing to make them notice you. And Oh, relinquish any contact with the world outside.

As she blends in and leaves all she loves behind, her fiancé, Eagle’s Nest police chief, Truman Daly, is faced with a set of murders so odd, he has no idea if they are connected or not. As Mercy finds her feet in this militia while searching out clues, danger mounts as she finds evidence of a plot that will shake the country. Can Mercy get contact to Truman and her fellow FBI agents before it all blows up in her face? Can Truman figure out the puzzling murders and try to get Mercy to safety as the danger around them goes even higher?

A MERCIFUL PROMISE is the final book in the wonderful Mercy Kilpatrick series and one that just left me on the edge of my seat from the first page. It’s a wild adventure with a few twists I sure did not see coming. Ms. Elliott is a wonderful storyteller and really hit it out of the ballpark with her latest book in the series. I am sad to see the series end but just love how she ended it. Mercy is a tough as nails FBI agent who was raised by survivalists and knows the way they think. Mercy continues to grow with each book. When we met her in book one. A Merciful Death, I wasn’t quite sure how she would work out as a heroine but as each book shows, her and Truman’s romance are just perfect for one another and with a cast of wonderful secondary characters to help move the story along, A MERCIFUL PROMISE is a perfect swan song for the series.

It opens with a case that is right up Mercy’s alley. A rogue militia group is stockpiling weapons and the FBI needs to know just what they plan to do with them all. I loved how Mercy is pulled into a case with people she grew up with, even if they seem a little too out there to myself. I loved her interactions with the members of the m ilitia and as she finds her feet there, she gives the reader a glimpse into that kind of life full on. I am in awe of the author’s research into this kind of lifestyle and how the author just captured it perfectly in this series. The murders also that Truman deals with are a perfect way to bring him into the storyline and the switch between Mercy and Truman’s scenes were done seamlessly.

A MERCIFUL PROMISE is a wonderful end to a riveting series that just blew me away. If you enjoy captivating stories with amazing characters that grow with each book, crimes that keep your imagination fully engaged than I highly recommend this series to you. I do suggest starting from the beginning, A Merciful Death, in order to get the full effect of the series as each book builds upon the last one. I am eager to see where this author goes next and hope we readers don’t have to wait long for it.

Loved the book, especially the ending!! This was definitely my favorite book in the series. After I finished reading it, I couldn't wait for the next one. THEN I read the author's note and found out it's the last book in the series (insert sad face). No more Mercy or Truman and all their friends and family. Mercy and Truman have definitely gone through their share of trouble in the last year. I can't believe all they have been through in the short amount of time they knew each other.

Loved the story in this book. I would never have wanted to be an undercover agent in that crazy off the grid compound. all those children, not taught to read or even given medicine. The people were scary, they blindly believed and followed whatever their leader told them. The book held my attention from the first chapter until the very last. I just knew something bad would happen. I couldn't believe how the militia group found out Mercy's true identity. Loved how it alternated between Mercy and Truman.

Definitely recommend the book and the previous ones in the series. I look forward to reading more books by the author, maybe some starring Rowan and Thor!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Montlake Romance through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I'm going to miss Mercy and Truman, but maybe we'll hear from them again. Mercy still lives like a prepper but far less like her parents. It's that lifestyle and history that led the ATF to ask for her help. Headed undercover to find guns hidden on a compound puts Mercy at a new stress level and Truman without his right arm, so to speak. This new adventure proves how strong Mercy is and her relationship with Truman is tighter than ever. This series is action packed, educational and a thrill ride. I received my copy through Netgalley, review was voluntarily written.
