My second in the series but this is the 6th one and unfortunately the last. These can be read as stand alone a but the characters definitely weave and build throughout so for the fullest experience... you know the drill

These are great interesting characters. The story develops as Mercy goes undercover and Truman holds down the home fort. Of course neither goes according to plan and the alternating story lines amp up the suspense on both fronts.

This one did have a bit of a lull for me once all the groundwork was laid. It wasn’t long but I did feel anxious for the action to start. It also is the last in the series so it does become a tad sappy and sentimental at the conclusion but considering what just happened I guess it’s due.

First, I have to say that I'm so sad that this is the last book in the series! I have so enjoyed following Mercy Kilpatrick's story. While I've really liked all of the books in the series, this was my favorite. Without going into too much detail (no spoilers!), I'll just say that it brought to a conclusion some outstanding questions that I had and I really liked how the author concluded both this book and this series.

This was a fast-paced book that kept me on the edge of my seat, while also blending some of the softer, more personal, aspects of Mercy's life - especially her relationship with her family and her blossoming relationship with Truman.

This last book was not how I was anticipating Mercy’s journey coming to an end but it wrapped up the series nicely and had a satisfying conclusion. As always, this final installment of Elliot’s Mercy Kilpatrick Series was gripping and a page-turner from start to finish. When I first picked up my Kindle and opened this story, I had planned on just reading a few chapters then picking it up the next evening to finish but I ended up staying up half the night and read it in its entirety. I was just unable to put it down to go to bed. I kept saying ‘just one more chapter’ or ‘oh, I need to see real quick what happens next here’ and it just kept going and going until I was on the last page around 2:30 am. The last few chapters of the book were really intense with a harrowing experience for Mercy, as well as an emotionally heightened one for Truman so I just could not stop; I had to know the outcome. With the story being told from both Mercy and Truman’s POV’s it provided a stronger connection to the characters and their emotional states and interactions and I enjoyed the way Elliot connected both their investigations towards the end. It was also nice to see all the loose ends carried throughout the series tied up. The book was well-written, well-paced, intense and suspenseful with an interesting storyline and engaging characters. I would definitely recommend the Mercy Kilpatrick Series to any suspense, mystery, crime/thriller reader.

The <em><strong><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/178669-mercy-kilpatrick" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mercy Kilpatrick series</a> </strong></em> feels more  crime/ mystery suspense than a romance. You do want to read the series in order. There is kissing but the sex is off page. I've enjoyed the world-building of this small town in a rural mountain area with many survivalists. The preppers are fascinating to me and cool; I love DYI and self-sufficient people.

I was just going to start this at bedtime and ended up reading it in one sitting, ending at 2:40am. It was a fast, suspenseful ride with plenty of raking my emotions over the coals.

<strong>A Merciful Promise</strong> has a many different law enforcement people working together - Truman for the local town, Evan Bolton on the county front, Mercy for the FBI and some ATF folks.  I had a bad feeling about the case from the beginning and so did Mercy. It was as expected - bad.  Most of the book, Mercy is undercover and cut off from everyone.

Mercy was her usual resourceful self. The events went as I anticipated but the motivations and catalysts were more of a surprise.  The family and personal growth are great to experience and wrap up some little loose ends.  I can't believe this is the final one - I'll miss these people.  There is a hint of a novella or Mercy showing up in some other books and I hope it happens.

I absolutely love this series and am so sad to see it end. Mercy is a terrific character and the storylines do not disappoint. There’s drama, suspense and twists and turns that make these stories so enjoyable. Hopefully we will see pop ups in other books but it was a bittersweet journey. Looking forward to what she comes out with next.

This was the final book in the Mercy Kirkpatrick series and it was a bittersweet end to series that I grew to love. Mercy, Truman and the rest of the characters all became a loved family throughout these books and I am very sad to see them go but I loved how Elliot ended their story and gave them the send off they deserved.
This book gave closure to Mercy’s family’s story and what was going on between her and her dad. It also gave her and Truman and their family an ending as well. Besides that it had one heck of an exciting case for Mercy to take part in. What can I say? This was one exciting book from start to finish. It was full of murder, mystery and all kinds of drama.
A Merciful Promise gets five out of five stars from me.

mercy is going into a militia type camp undercover to do some recon on some missing weapons and also to find out as much information as she can on the big hit atf keep hearing about...

once inside the camp things become strained..as the living conditions arent up to much and how people are treated and accept it brings the worst out in mercy as she tries to keep her cover from blowing...

doesnt help that she hasnt been able to communicate with the outside world and her stuff has been taken off her...

also she is unaware of the dead bodies turning up ....

a gripping novel that we come to expect from this author...a bit sad to see its the last in the series with mercy but she may pop up in other novels...

cant wait for the next book off this author though

Another fine example of top-notch, edge-of-your-seat suspense that only Ms. Elliot can deliver! The story is tightly written with all the aspects that keep a reader turning pages. This installment in the Mercy Kilpatrick series is sadly the last and the plot line seems reminiscent of a previous one in the series. This time, however, it is Mercy, rather than Truman, that is missing in the wilderness. Still, one can never guess the villains and the twists and turns to achieve justice are riveting.

Even though it is sad to see this wonderfully creative series end, the author ties everything up with a very satisfying sigh when the last page closes. Bravo on a fabulous series, Ms. Elliot!

In the final book of the Mercy Kilpatrick series we find Mercy in more danger than ever. She has been asked to infiltrate a militia group that is suspected of stealing and selling weapons. Mercy has only a day to prepare and while undercover she will have no contact outside the group. Her only contact is an ATF agent who is also undercover.

This is a very intense and riveting story. I wanted to keep turning the pages, but at the same time, I didn’t want it to end. It is the last of the Mercy Kilpatrick series and I will miss her. It is by far the best book of the series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

For the second time in three books, Mercy is dealing with a militia. Now, I know that militias are a staple in this area of the country, but it’s getting a little old. So, it’s probably a good thing this was the last book in the series. That said, this book kept me engaged and I was turning pages as fast as I could.

I like the characters and Elliot continues to give them depth. We get to see some resolution to issues that have plagued Mercy for the entire series.

This is book 6 and the final book of the Mercy Kilpatrick series and is the best of the series. Mercy is asked by the FBI to infiltrate a militia stockpiling stolen illegal firearms in an isolated forest community as part of a joint ATF/FBI operation. when their operative comes down with shingles and they need a last minute replacement. Given Mercy's history, she is the obvious choice to go in as Chad's girlfriend, who was to join him at the camp. Mercy cannot share with her fiancé, Truman, where she will be or what she will be doing and has no means of communicating with the outside world if things go bad. Mercy ruffles feathers with her questions and lack of humility from the first day and Chad warns her to hold back. When Chad does not return from a supply run, Mercy fears their cover has been blown. As the days of America's Preserve come to an end and Mercy goes missing, Truman is at his wits end trying to work with the FBI to find her, alive or dead. This was a great story that illustrated the obligation of duty before family and I loved the way Mercy and Truman continued to rely on each other even when they were separated. I will miss these characters and hope they will crossover into another book series at some point!

The sixth book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series has Mercy going undercover, reluctantly, into a radical militant group. She is a last minute replacement because the ATF agent assigned to the mission has shingles. No time to prep thoroughly, Mercy gets dropped in with little information to help her navigate the dangers.

Truman is dealing with a puzzling body dumped on Britta's property. The body is in Detective Evan Bolton's jurisdiction, and as the investigation continues, it turns out there have been similar execution-style body dumps.

The Mercy Kilpatrick series is concluded with A Merciful Promise, which is a little disappointing, but understandable. I'd like to see more of Britta, her trauma and personality have been covered in earlier books, and I also like Detective Evan Bolton. There are other characters, too, that I'd like to see more of even if Mercy and Truman are no longer main characters.

Hopefully, Elliot will not completely abandon the Eagle's Nest setting completely.

It saddened me to see this is the last Mercy book. I love these realistic looks into preppers and extreme militia groups. Elliot has done her homework and shared all sides of these groups.

The tale that unfolds is brutal and terrifying as Mercy must keep herself alive and help the children. The story alternated between Mercy and Truman's POVs. As both cases are worked the tension builds until it meets a crescendo that kept me reading until the bitter end.

Well, it seems that with this instalment we said goodbye to Mercy and Truman. At least as protagonists, since the author promises a cameo in her upcoming novels.

Definitely this series is worth reading it. The suspense is so good, intense and intelligent. Always different and spectacular. And the romance is very subtle, mostly in the background. It is settled in a small town, Eagle Nest, Oregon, therefore it also has
non-intrusive elements of rural life. And best of all, it has the most original background that I've ever read: survivalists or people who believes in the “end of the world as we know it”, or EOTWAWKI, now that acronyms are so fashionable.

That said, I must also say that both the first story in the series and the latter are the weakest links in the chain.
I couldn´t find here that spark that the author put in the previous stories. The cornerstone of suspense is a bit “loose”, somewhat unrealistic, which does not mean that, once the action begins, it is exciting and keeps you on the verge of a heart attack. But this time not everything has <i>tallied</i> as smoothly as the author got me used to. I have missed that <i>perfection</i>.

But of course, then there is the outcome and those scenes so endearing that Mrs. Elliot gives us with the MC´s at their wedding. It really has been beautiful, and the perfect farewell for these lovely characters.

I really hope that the author takes some of her secondary characters from this series and gives them a chance, it would be a pity not to hear from them again. There is potential there, or so I think.

Bueno, pues parece que con esta entrega nos despedimos de Mercy y Truman. Al menos como protagonistas, ya que su autora promete algún cameo en sus próximas novelas.

Definitivamente esta serie merece la pena leerla. El suspense es muy bueno, intenso e inteligente. Siempre diferente y espectacular. Y el romance es muy sutil, en tercer o cuarto plano. Se desarrolla en un pequeño pueblo, Eagle Nest, en Oregon, por lo tanto también tiene elementos poco intrusivos de la vida rural. Y como colofón tiene el transfondo más original que he leído nunca: survivalistas o gente que se prepara para el “final del mundo tal y como lo conocemos”, o EFDMTYCLC, ahora que los acrónimos están tan de moda.

Dicho esto, también he de decir que tanto la primera entrega como esta última son los eslabones más débiles de la cadena.
Aquí ha faltado esa chispa que la autora ha puesto en las historias anteriores. La piedra angular del suspense es muy floja, un tanto irrealista, lo que no quita que, una vez que empieza la acción, ésta sea trepidante y te mantiene al borde del infarto. Pero esta vez no todo ha “cuadrado” tan perfectamente como la autora me tiene acostumbrada. He echado de menos esa “perfección”.

Pero claro, después está el desenlace y esas escenas tan entrañables que la señora Elliot nos regala de los protagonistas en su boda. Realmente ha sido muy bonito, y la despedida perfecta para estos personajes tan encantadores.

Realmente espero que la autora saque del tintero a algunos de los secundarios y les dé una oportunidad, me daría mucha pena no volver a saber de ellos. Hay potencial ahí, o eso creo.

The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.

Having read the previous books in this series I was saddened that this is the last book. That being said, what a way to end the series!
The characters, the plot, even the 'fringe elements' had me turning the pages. No questions were left unanswered.
My only hope is that some of these characters reappear in future books.

“A Merciful Promise” is Kendra Elliot’s latest Mercy Kilpatrick and sadly, the last. This series has been one of the most intriguing series I have read. Mercy Kilpatrick is an FBI agent who has come home after a separation from her family, but she never strayed far from her roots. Having been raised in a “prepper” community Mercy has always had a need to prepare for the worst, and when she volunteers for an undercover assignment to infiltrate a subversive group, her training may just save her life. Ms. Elliot has written a perfect ending to this series and I look forward to joining her on her newest adventure. I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Going into the book, I wasn’t loving it. The separation of the story wasn’t what I expected for Mercy’s final farewell. Kendra Elliot’s excellent writing, and my love for her books made me keep reading. Eventually everything came together in a well written, well plotted novel that is worthy of the series. I am sad to see my beloved Eagles Nest family end its story, but as always, there is hope for a related series, where a character or two will appear.

This review isn't going to be long. I'm not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.

I loved this series of books. I'm so sad to see this series end. I like how she puts action, suspense, and love into her books. I would totally recommend this series to anyone that loves a great read!.
