Encouraging Words for Mothers is a 365 day devotional. I've learned that devotional intended to cover an entire year aren't my favorite. Even if each day's devotional is short, I often lose interest before the year is complete. And that was sort of the case for me with Encouraging Words for Mothers.

This devotional does have short devotions. It is designed for one a day and is split into a section to be read in the morning and one in the evening. Both are short enough that reading them at the same time made the most sense to me. There is a verse for the day/topic and a short prayer. Normally, I prefer a little more meat to my devotions. I prefer deep topics that make me think, but in this season of life with 3 kids 5 and under, short and sweet hits the spot. I feel like this devotional is especially geared towards mothers with very young children. Life is just so busy with taking care of the needs of others that even this short devotional should be fine to work into a daily schedule.

For me though, I knew I was reviewing this book and I really didn't need to take a year to do so. Thus I would read as large of a section of devotionals at a time that I felt I could before putting it down for the day. Doing this, however, led me to fatigue and I ended up putting the entire devotional down for an extended period.

I always take issue with books that use paraphrase translations of the Bible. Particularly, The Message translation is a pet peeve of mine. I personally use literal translations. I've talked about this on my blog enough that I won't get into much detail about it here in this review. Even if the intent of the author was only to use this translation as a supplement to their own study, it can give the unknowing reader the idea that the translation is a great option for their personal study Bible if they're looking for one.

The author discusses a few things that I didn't 100% agree with. I never expect to agree with anyone else 100% of the time though. I do know the topic of spanking will be an issue for some readers. Just be aware of that going into the book and you won't be surprised.

Encouraging Words for Mothers is a great devotional for the busy Mom. I especially think this one is good and applicable for the Mother of very young children, like myself. It isn't too deep in terms of content, but sometimes that isn't the season of life that you're in. Paraphrased translations of the Bible were often used which is a pet peeve of mine. Encouraging Words for Mothers gets 3.5 Stars. Have you read Encouraging Words for Mothers ? What did you think? Let me know!

Mommin is hard. Sometimes it's real hard. Any encouragement is appreciated when you're going through the difficult parts, but we need God's guidance in the good times, too.
This would make a nice gift for any mom.

This book is a very encouraging resource for moms. I found myself laughing out loud. My children are adults now, but there is still much to be gleaned from this book. I will be buying this when its released.

I'm not overly religious, so I wanted to start my review with that.
HOWEVER, I did find a lot of comfort in the verses provided. Any mom will tell you that this is a hard job.

First off, I just want to say what a wonderful book this is. As a mother of three children, I could easily relate to every story the author wrote. I found the morning and evening messages extremely empowering, and found strength in the Bible Verses.

I am not religious as such, but I found a whole lot of comfort in the pages of this book, and even now I quote little verses to my children, trying to steer them onto the Good path! I cannot wait to buy it on release day!

Pros: This book will have you laughing and saying to yourself, "why didn't I think of that?" all at the same time. There is one point where the author remembers two words from a foreign language that was learned back in college. I laughed so hard because I couldn't do any better. Thus, kids will try your patience, but we don't always have to react and respond the same way each time. We also don't have to be everything to everybody, every time, and that's what this book will show you along the way. It will provide you with different alternatives, when you wake up and before retiring to bed, and throughout the day as well. One thing that resonated with me was about the child that wanted to spend time with mom in place of the event. I just went through something similar with my child. So, I can relate wholeheartedly.

Cons: There is a phrase mentioned throughout the book, and it doesn't sit well with me, but overall, a good book nonetheless.

Encouraging Words for Mothers Morning and Evening

These 365 devotionals are meant to be quick and uplifting. For me they were too quick and not enough thought provoking. These brief devotionals were organized with different monthly topics to help moms keep their eyes on the prize while managing the whirlwind around them. I imagine if you really only have a few moments to read this would be great. I have a 4 and 8-year-old and I try to budget a little more time in my day to connect with the Lord. No shame if you are not there yet. I just prefer a little more.

This would be a really handy tool for any mother that just needs a little time alone to do some reading, reflecting, or having some time with Jesus. The daily thoughts are good. The prayers are prewritten, but you could supplement with your own to add whatever was on your mind. Good tool to release stress and have that few minutes of calm and perspective that can really help during your day.
