Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is the second book in the Kaely Quinn, Profiler series. I would say you could read it as a stand-alone, but you will learn a lot about Kaely in the first story, which will help you to understand her character a bit better. More on Kaely in a minute!

First, what I liked about this story. Ms. Mehl has a writing style that draws you in and makes you want to read the story. I liked the suspense of the book and the entire time I was reading, I was trying to figure out who the villain was. I also like Noah and many of the other secondary characters in this story.

Now for a few issues I had. Kaely is a very different character from any other character that I’ve read. She does some things that are very questionable and honestly make me uncomfortable. I don’t want to get into spoiler territory, but I wonder if a real FBI profiler used her tactics, what would happen to them. I also felt like she was very uncaring with her sick mother. She went to Dark Water to take care of her and relieve her brother from doing all the caregiving, but she ended up caring more about a case, which was not even hers, than her mother. I also wished the relationship between Kaely and Noah and Kaely and her mom would have moved farther along. That being said, I am looking forward to book 3, Dead End, which comes out in March.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Just like the first book, Fire Storm, the second book in Nancy Mehl's Kaely Quinn Profiler series, carried the eerie feel of someone watching over your shoulder as you read.

One of my favorite aspects of this story was the way Nancy got me in the heads of the characters, especially Kaely. It was interesting getting to see how Kaely created profiles and then interviewed them.

Another aspect of the story that gave it this creepy/eerie feel was the use of the familiar nursery rhyme "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candlestick". There was just something about the way this was used that gave me chills as I read.

Fire Storm was another great installment in this series, and I can't wait to read the next book!

First off, I have to say that I am in LOVE with the cover of the book. It has to be one of the best covers I have admired in a while with the blues and the flickers of the embers from the fires - works amazingly. If you are in the mood for an edgy Christian fiction novel, then you will enjoy Nancy Mehl's Kaely Quinn series. Kaely Quinn is a profiler for the FBI's BAU unit but she is known when she is back home as Jessie - the daughter of a famous serial killer known as The Raggedy Man. Hurt by her father's actions and confused, Kaely threw herself into learning everything about why serial killers tick and became one of the best profilers around. Due to her upbringing though, Kaely and her mother became estranged from one another. Now her mother is sick and dying and Kaely's older brother Jason has called her to come home to DarkWater to say her goodbyes and be with her mother before she goes. When Kaely arrives though, she has arrived during what seems like random fires from space heaters. Kaely, however, can see a pattern and believes the smalltown of DarkWater has an arsonist on their hands. As the book goes along, we see that the fires were connected to two major incidents and tragedies that happened in the town eighteen years ago. However, nobody has managed to put things together until Kaely arrived and now Kaely has put herself in dangers way once again. Can Kaely make it alive out of Fire Storm or will she lose another FBI partner with her decisions? Find out in Fire Storm - Book #2 in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series by Nancy Mehl. After finishing Book # 2, it has now made me want to go back and read Book #1 - Mind Games. Each book though can be read as a stand-alone story as focuses on a different case.

I think Fire Storm is a well-written suspense story that would be more than enough to give you the creeps... even if you read it during bright daylight. Its predecessor, Mind Games, did that for me and more, so I was glad that Fire Storm was a little less creepy (though it still was really creepy). xD Overall, it's a good suspense story that I think most lovers of thrillers would enjoy, even though it includes some themes (one in particular that I noticed was reconciliation and forgiveness) that weren't done very well / rushed in my opinion.

This book will have you on the edge of your seat for sure. I will I did not read the first book in the series and part of me wants to just to go back and see what I missed. I would also say to me this book is not a romance book, while the characters do express feeling its never to each other. This book deals with some tough subjects and keeps you wondering what is going to happen next, The keeps it clean so that was a plus in my book. I did also enjoy that the author seem to hold nothing back in this book. If you are looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end then grab this book you won't be disappointed. Oh I will say this though the book ends in a cliffhanger of sorts.

Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is an edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting kind of read. I very much enjoyed my time again with Kaely Quinn; she is an even more endearing and compelling character in this sequel. It was also good to see Noah Hunter, Kaely’s FBI partner, back in full force. It’s fun to watch him do all he can to protect Kaely while she is myopically trying to profile and find a serial arsonist/murderer. The slight romantic tension between Kaely and Noah kept me up late into the night turning pages. While the fireworks currently are minimal, they are there and that makes me super excited to see what Mehl has in store for us readers with book #3. I also really enjoyed the mystery and suspense. While I did figure out who-dunnit earlier on in the read, there are enough shockers at the end of the story to make me feel like I definitely got my money’s worth!

At the heart of this novel is the issue of family. Specifically, Mehl deals with families and the broken people that make them up. At one point, the word dysfunction is used, and I could not agree more. The families in this story are all uniquely dysfunctional and hurting. Some people see family as everything — a source of love, comfort, and stability even through the bad times. Some see family as a nuisance. And some see nothing but the ugly brokenness of the people within. Kaely has reason to see tremendous negative in her family and allows that to color her relationships with her mother and brother. And, for a moment, it looks like Kaely will revert back to her old ways and abandon them. There is a moment when Kaely prays to God, “Why them?” God, in His infinite awesomeness, shows Kaely her truth and fills her brain with images of the way she has treated her family in the past. Kaely realizes she isn’t the innocent victim. God’s message to Kaely is clear. She needs to stop judging her family and spend a minute in their shoes instead. When we take the focus off our selves, when we spend a minute looking at something through someone else’s perspective, we can see others and their actions/choices in a better light. They still might not be the right actions or choices, but at least we can understand our loved ones better. I very much appreciated this reminder.

Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is a highly engaging, fast-paced read that I highly recommend. If you are a fan of Romantic Suspense and you are looking for a good read, then this is definitely the novel for you.

I received a copy of this novel in paperback form from the publisher, Bethany House, in order to review. I also received an eBook review copy of this novel from NetGalley. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is the second book in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series. Kaely Quinn takes a leave of absence from her job as a FBI profiler to care for her sick mother in Dark Water, Nebraska. A series of fires in the sleepy little town makes Kaely think that a serial arsonist is at work, but the most improbable suspect is a dead man. Mehl lets her characters drive the plot of the novel as the reader enjoys a series of twists and turns that will keep the reader turning the pages furiously. Although I preferred the first book, the description of the third book has me already ordering book #3.

This was a very engaging read. I love this series. The arson investigation was very intriguing and I spent the whole book trying to figure out who the arsonist was and why he or she was doing it.

I love the show Criminal Minds and Mehl's latest yet again reminds me of this show. The profiling aspects and also the way she "interviews" her suspects are so interesting.

Her time with her family was an interesting side to the book. At times it was hard to read, but it also opened a window into understanding her better.

I couldn't put this book down and recommend it to anyone who loves crime solving books and shows.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

I can't get enough of this series! I love Kaely and Noah. I really like how Kaely profiles her UNSUBs. It is so unique. I also really enjoyed how Kaely and her family are working on reconciling. This story is action packed and I did not see the ending coming at all. The author threw in several red herrings so that every time I thought I had the arsonist figured it out, then there would be a new suspect. If you like Criminal Minds, you will love this series. I highly recommend! Thank you to Netgalley and Bethany House for the copy. All opinions expressed are my own

This is book two in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series, however I do feel like it is a standalone book. I have not read book one and had no trouble keeping up with this book. I do feel like I missed some important background on Kaely, so I recommend reading book one first but it is not necessary.

Kaely Quinn is a unique FBI profiler, with lots of baggage. When she is thrown into a small town mystery will she be able to solve it before anyone else dies?

This novel is full of mystery, twist and turns, drama and more. I look forward to book three.

We met FBI profiler Kailey Quinn in the first book of this series, “Mind Games”. I was intrigued by the character of Kailey when I read the first book, and I had been looking forward to this next book in the series. I was not disappointed. This book fills in gaps about Kailey’s family and her background, and finds Kailey trying to reconcile her relationship with her mother. This story also furthers the relationship between Kailey and her FBI partner, Noah. This storyline builds slowly, adding detail upon detail, and takes some unexpected turns all along the way. By the last two chapters, the suspense is intense and I was determined to finish the book before I set it down again.

Kailey’s method of profiling is unusual, and is a little bit eerie. In this book, we see Kailey beginning to question her own method. Her Christian faith is growing stronger, and Kailey is discovering that she is now becoming unsettled with some aspects of her profiling. The last page of the book hinted that she still has some challenges to face. I’m looking forward to finding out what Nancy Mehl has next in store for Kailey.

Fire Storm is the second book in Nancy Mehl’s Kaely Quinn Profiler series.
Mind Games introduced us to Kaely Quinn, daughter of a notorious serial killer and now a talented FBI profiler specialising in profiling and catching serial killers. But she’s a damaged person, and most of her colleagues find it difficult to work with her and her unconventional methods.

In Fire Storm, Kaely’s mother is dying of cancer, and her brother has persuaded her to visit their mother in her new hometown of Darkwater, Nebraska. Kaely and her mother don’t have the best of relationships, as her mother basically checked out of motherhood when she found out her husband was a serial killer. In Marcie’s defence, I can’t say I’d be all rainbows and unicorns if I found I was married to a serial killer and had two children with him.

But Kaely hasn’t even arrived at Marcie’s house before she discovers all is not well in the town of Darkwater. There have been a few recent fires, which the fire chief says were caused by cheap space heaters. But Kaely immediately sees a pattern in the locations.

Kaely believes there is a serial arsonist at work.
It’s not a spoiler to say that the fire chief doesn’t believe her … and that the fire chief is wrong. Kaely’s challenge is to get the fire chief or police or FBI to believe her before there are more fires and more people die.

I have to say that the first chapter of Fire Storm isn’t gripping (although the Prologue certainly was). Chapter one has a lot of backstory, describing Kaely’s history and her personal problems. As such, those who haven’t read Mind Games will have no trouble picking up Fire Storm. (Those who have read Mind Games may well find themselves skimming this first chapter).

But the story soon picks up, and turns into a white-knuckle ride with lots of twists and turns.
There’s plenty of conflict in the arson story, and there’s also plenty of conflict at home. Kaely and her mother have never been close, which provides an added layer. And there’s the nice vet and volunteer fireman next door to consider.

I found Fire Storm a quick and fact-paced read, perfect for any time when you’re worried your nails might be getting too long. Recommended for fans of Carrie Stuart Parks, Terri Blackstock, and other Christian thriller authors.

Fire Storm delivers a new mystery and dangerous twists and turns for FBI profiler, Kaely Quinn. Follow Kaely on her journey to uncover the story and track down the perpetrator.

Nancy Mehl is a new favorite author of mine. I thoroughly enjoyed Mind Games, Book one in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series, so I was excited to begin this second book. Fire Storm brings us the story of Kaely’s family and her mom’s current cancer diagnosis. As Kaely visits to help care for her mother and bridge the gap in their relationship, she’s drawn to a case of mysterious fires that begin consuming and terrorizing the town where her mother lives.

I enjoyed following Kaely as she tracked down the perpetrator and uncovers the mystery. I like Kaely’s character and her backstory; she’s strong, independent and fierce. Fire Storm reads more as a Nancy Drew mystery to me than a suspense/thriller which is what I was anticipating after reading the synopsis. Regardless, the story flows well with suspense and dramatic scenes inserted appropriately throughout and holds a readers interest. Kaely learns more about herself and her faith along the way, and her relationship with Special Agent Noah Hunter is definitely growing. I would have loved to have seen more flourish there but that wasn’t the main focus of this book. The only thing that kept me from a higher rating was how this story gave away the ending. Once I felt certain who the culprit was, I felt myself rushing the end of the story. I would have loved a bit more of a twist personally, but there were elements of the ending that still surprised me. While this second book isn’t as good as the first, in my opinion, it still is good and worth a read! I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Wow. Insanely crazy book. This one will keep you guessing long after the resolution. Can be read as a standalone. I never read the first one but it seems like the first one leads into this one and this one doesnt really end, although the conflict has been resolved. Good set up for a 3rd installment between Kaely and Noah, since they didn't get together in this one, just set some groundwork.

I’m loving this series. I love Kaely, she is such an interesting character, I like that ishe is a bit different and has her quirks. I forgot how much I loved the first book.

In this one we get a better look at Kaely’s family and the dynamics there and there is a lot going on. We also get to see Noah and Kaely’s relationship grow.

I didn’t like this book as much as I like the first one but I still really enjoyed it. This is a unique series.

A copy of this book was given to me. All opinions are my own.

This is the second book in the Kaely Quinn series, but it can be read as a standalone. It could be romantic suspense, but there is not a lot of romance, so I would just call it suspense. In this book, I found out a lot more about Kaely’s background, where she came from and why she has such a difficult time with her mother. Kaely goes home to Darkwater, Nebraska, to help her brother Jason care for their mother Marcie, a cancer patient who is dying. In this little town, FBI profiler Kaely manages to discover that the repetitive fires occurring around the town are the work of a serial arsonist. At this point, her partner and romantic interest, Noah Hunter, appears to help out with the arson cases. Although Noah loves Kaely, there is no real declaration of love here nor any really romantic scenes. They are just working together to solve the mystery of the fire starter. There is not enough suspense for me in this novel and not enough resolution at the end. The family troubles still exist and the relationship between Noah and Kaely is still up in the air. Nevertheless, it is a good, clean read that will entertain fans of Christian suspense. I am looking forward to the next book in the series because Mehl does know how to tell a story that enthralls her readers.

FIRE STORM is book 2 in Ms. Mehl's Kaely Quinn Profiler series, and while it does stand alone, fans will want to read Mind Games for Kaely's history.

This romantic suspense definitely has the creepy factor going as Kaely tries to get into the head of an arsonist that doesn't fit normal profiles. Why not? What is his motivation?

While there are plenty of red herrings, to me, it is fairly obvious who is behind the crimes once the idea is broached, but the writing is stellar, and the path the characters must follow is fascinating. I didn't want to put this book down though I had to limit bedtime reading!

Wow, I really enjoyed this contemporary suspense book. Although it is second in the Kaley Quinn Profiler series, it is pretty much a stand-alone story. But I must admit, I'm going to read the first one in the series as soon as possible! The characters are strong and realistic, with their flaws and foibles evident along with their strengths. The plot moved quickly and with several interesting twists and turns. The suspense was great as the author keeps the villain under wraps until the end. I listened to the audiobook and had a difficult time turning it off, I wanted to find out who indeed the bad guy was and how things were going to end. Themes of family and friends' relationships, faith in a God who is involved in the cares of individuals' lives, and a touch of romance are all blended together to bring an intense and entertaining story. Traci Odom did a great job of narration which made for a great listening experience.

In Fire Storm, once again Nancy Mehl brings the reader into the mind of Kaely Quinn, an FBI profiler. The second book in this series is just as good as the first. You are cheering for Kaely not just to catch the bad guy, but to also work through some of her own issues that are holding her back from deepening her relationships. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat with plenty of twists and turns along the way. You don’t want to miss this one!
