This book had me on pins and needles, but in a different way than Mind Games, book 1 in the Kaely Quinn
profiler series.

You see, after some revelation bombs dropped in Mind Games I was more than curious to see how Kaely’s relationships would evolve. And I was literally on pins and needles the entire time. In fact, the very last part of the book was a cliff hanger and had me curling up in a fetal position because Dead End (book 3) doesn’t release until next year! What’s a book lover supposed to do?!

As for the mystery/suspenseful aspects, I joined in playing the guessing game. I tried to be a profiler (or should I say behavioral analyst) like Kaely but I totally failed. I did not see the twist coming. The ups and downs, twists and turns is one of the reasons I’m so addicted to this series.

Now to bide my time and wait for book 3.

Wow! This is one suspenseful crime novel that will keep readers on their toes. Hints are given throughout as Kaely and Noah race against time to find an arsonist. Kelly's unique investigative tool will help solve the case but not before a few unseen twists. Looking forward to book three. Highly recommended!!

Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is the second book with Kaely and was a wonderful read. I love this character. Nancy takes us through Kaely’s thought process as she solves the mysteries and as she reads people. She works for the FBI and is trained in behavioral analysis. She is a rock star in her job but has lots of family issues. In this book her mom is battling cancer and they are trying to repair their relationship.

She is staying in the same town as her mom when she realizes the town has had an unusual number of fires. They mystery and suspense are top notch.

Noah, her FBI partner ends up in the same town and they work it together. I really hope Nancy puts them together. He is a great guy struggling with some of his own issues.
Kaely is a Christian and the author reveals her struggles and her trust very well.

You could read this book alone but I do not recommend it. Please go grab the first one. The book and characters will mean so much more to you if you do. Nancy, if you are reading this please keep the series going with Kaely!

Sexual content – one kiss
Violence – arson, kidnapping and a shoot out

I once again have mixed feelings about this book/series. I really wanted to get a good feel for the characters of Kaely Quinn after some rather shocking information came to light at the end of the previous book. While I felt as though we got some answers to a few lingering questions, I really felt as if I was lead down a trail and abandoned there as far as getting insight into her character and situation. Her profiling technique, which is one of her unique character qualities was basically overlooked for the most part and I felt as though her position as a famous profiler was just ignored almost in this book. Some of the things that made me cringe in the last book such as her imaginary friend and her imaginary cat were all but glossed over in this book and basically not addressed and so the story didn’t really progress in those areas. It was one of the main shock factors of the previous book, so down playing it in Fire Storm seemed to leave me confused and wondering why we even bothered to be made aware of these issues. Wading through all of these pesky things, I found the arsonist story to be interesting and I wish the book was solely focused on finding and profiling the arsonist. This book need a central focus. I fell like a pinball in a machine, bouncing from one plot point to the next. Kaely’s family issues—ping, Kaely and Noah doing surveillance on drug dealers—ping, arsonist case—ping. I have no idea what purpose the whole surveillance gig served other than give Noah a reason to hang out somewhere in the same proximity as Kaely. It made her seem insensitive to accept that job when she had taken vacation to care for her cancer ridden mother. She was always putting her job before everyone and everything and it didn’t seem like she really changed in spite of relationship issues that popped up due to her insensitivity. Her family situation was difficult to read and kind of made me cringe as her mother continued to bark hateful comments at her in every scene she was in. And it seemed as if there needed to be some defining conversation at the end of the book where there was a reconciliation attempt, however we got a sentence about how they talked and made progress. It felt rushed and I felt a little cheated after having to put up with reading their toxic relationship for the whole book.
I liked the parts with the arsonist and I enjoyed the solving of that particular crime. I just wish this book would have focused on that more. I want to stick this series out because book 3 sounds really good. I’m hopeful that it will be more profiling, more about progression of her character and that we will get some clarity to the non existent love angle that has been hinted at but has never developed.

So I really really really wanted to read this but after the first book I don't think I will. I just can't stand the content, sadly. The cover looks wonderful but this isn't the book for me, the suspense is likely pretty good but the crazy main character is a no for me . . . It would be bad enough as a side character but the main character being insane and having imaginary friends and cats, thank you but no thank you!

Fire Storm in the second in the Kaely Quinn Profile series. This series just keeps getting better. Her special friend that we were introduced to in the last book returns. Kaely is estranged from her mother who is very ill with cancer. She does want to spend time with her mother but agrees at the request of her brother. An arsonist is starting fire in her mother's town. Kaely is soon dragged into finding who the arsonist is. The clues point to one of two people but there is a twist that I did not see coming. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bethany House Publishers for providing me an e-copy of this book to read and review.
This book is due to be released on August 6, 2019.

The second book in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series, we pick up where book one left off. Kaely's estranged mom is very sick (cancer) and although she has numerous reservations, she goes to help her brother care for her. Although not in town in any official capacity, trouble seems to find Kaely when a series of suspicious fires set off her radar.

Kaely's FBI partner Noah Hunter returns for this installment, and more about her relationship with her brother and mother are also revealed. As the majority of this story is set during a time she is technically not working, the author found some interesting ways to solve the mystery which was developed (appropriately) slowly. As always, I found myself trying to figure out as early as possible just who the antagonist was and how all the dots connected - but the ending was surprising and not obvious, even in hindsight. The author provided ample twists and turns for a satisfying conclusion. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series!

PS: If you have not already read the first book (Mind Games), get them both and make sure to read them in order. There is just too much depth and backstory introduced in book one; read it first!

For those of you who read the first book in this series, Mind Games, you know Kaely has a rather unique way of profiling her UNSUBs. This process has begun to take on a mind of its own, prompting Kaely to doubt her own control and have some fear for her sanity.

Fire Storm takes us deeper into Kaely’s frame of mind while showing her doubts and concerns. Despite her mother’s condition, Kaely finds herself obsessed with the fires. She’s desperate to find the culprit, even when it takes her away from her dying mother. Without her job, Kaely has no idea who she is as a person.

I found this interesting. How often do we define ourselves by our profession?

The tension in Fire Storm builds slowly, reeling you in bit by bit until the big finale.

With a solid writing style and plenty of intrigue, Fire Storm will ensure you fall in love with Kaely and Noah.

We learn very little about Noah as the central plot revolves around Kaely. And I can’t help but feel that her mind is disintegrating in some way. Anything she doesn’t want to face, she shoves to the back of her mind and refuses to think about, much less process, the emotions. Her mental stability is beginning to remind me of a ticking time bomb. At some point, she’s going to explode. You can’t hoard all those emotions without some kind of fallout.

Kaely’s character growth and her growth as a Christian take the foreground here. I highlighted passage after passage to come back to later. As Kaely learns to lean more on God, she finds a way to overcome some of her human tendencies toward anger and resentment. A great lesson for everyone. I know it’s one I need.

I am highly anticipating book three.

Romance in Fire Storm is very low, almost non-existent, which will be a relief to a lot of readers who prefer action and suspense over romance. I highly recommend this book for anyone who’s a fan of Christy Barritt, Dani Pettrey, or Lisa Harris. There are many more I could compare, but let’s not get crazy.

Fire Storm is the second installment from Nancy Mehl's series, Kaely Quinn Profiler. I enjoyed the first book and this one tops it. Kaely is such a courageous and brave woman. I love that she once again teams up with Noah to solve the crime.
I give Fire Storm five plus stars. I can not wait for the third addition to the series, Dead End, to release. I definitely recommend this book, as well as, the series. Readers will not be disappointed.
I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

5 star
This book is utterly absorbing. I picked it up and absolutely could not put it down. I love the character of Kaely. She is an FBI behavioral analyst who is haunted by her past yet trying desperately to forge a future and reconnect with her mother. I adore the character of Noah Hunter, Kaely’s partner. He is witty and sassy and a perfect counterpoint to Kaely’s darker personality.
I thought I had the mystery all figured out, but I was wrong but so close! The ending was fantastic even if it was a tad abrupt. I cannot believe this is only the second Nancy Mehl book I have read. I need to go looking for more. Mehl writes characters I instantly connect to, identify with and want to read more about their lives.
I cannot wait for book three in this series!

Genre : Christian, Action, Mystery, Psychology thriller, slight romance, humor
My rating: 5 stars
Language: Clean! (There is mention of someone "swearing", but they do not list the words)
Age Range: 15+
Content: Killing, fires, death - actually, it was mild compared to the first one.
Favorite Character: Kaely Quinn and Noah Hunter

Conclusion: It was fantastic! It was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages, just to see what would happen. Must read for those who love suspense and action, mixed with psychology. I was able to mostly figure out who did it, it was the why that I wasn't sure on. It still was good and I highly recommend this book

Be prepared not to get anything accomplished until you have turned the last page of this book. The author successfully nailed another nail biting psychological thriller that will engage the reader from the very beginning. The characters in Fire Storm well formed, the action keeps you guessing and how it ends will … well I don’t want to spoil it so I’ll let the readers figure that out. This is a well written book that I would recommend to anyone. I can’t wait to see where the author goes from here..

**I received a complimentary copy of this book for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

First of all, it is important to note that this is book two in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series. Personally, I had not read the first book prior to this one and would honestly say that it stood on it's own quite well. There were several references made to something that had happened in the past that I can only assume were covered in that book, but it in no way affected my ability to keep up with this story. I will say as great as this one was though, I would certainly appreciate getting that extra back story!

From page one this book had me at the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next and it carried on right through the last page. It had a creepy element to it that kept me enthralled. Pretty early on in the book, I was able to get a reasonable guess at 'whodunnit', but there were still many questions left unanswered that made you wonder. Even through the very ending, having guessed correctly at some point there were more secrets revealed that I truly did not see coming. Isn't that how a great suspense novel should be?

I was definitely drawn in by Kaely. She is quite the unique character with some pretty significant issues of her own (which I am curious to see if they were addressed in the previous book), which made her all the more intriguing. I look forward to seeing more about her in future books in the series. Though I would say the suspense was the main focus of this story, there was a hint of romance touched upon. While I am glad that it wasn't the focus of this particular story, it does seem to set it up to be addressed in future books and I look forward to that.

For the most part, this was a fabulous story. However, I will say the final few chapters seemed a bit rushed to me. At the point where the arsonist is revealed, it seemed to leap in the story a bit. I had to reread it a few times thinking I had somehow missed something. To be honest, I'm not entirely convinced that a small section hadn't somehow been left out of the advanced digital copy I had received. Despite that though, I still really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This is the second book in the series about Kaely Quinn, an FBI profiler/behavior analyst. Kaely is definitely one of the most intriguing heroines I’ve read about in a suspense novel for a long time! The situations she faces in this book, including getting involved in a case outside of her jurisdiction while she’s supposed to be spending time with her family, bring some of the issue’s she’s been facing to the forefront. She has been finding her identity in her work – in hunting down monsters – at the expense of her personal life, and instead of dealing with the trauma of her past.

There is some romance in this book, but it definitely takes a backseat to the suspense. Kaely’s partner from her home FBI office, Noah, travels to be with her and help her investigate, and their growing friendship is a beautiful part of the story. The mystery and suspense are very well done; you have an idea of who the arsonist might be about halfway through, but it ends up being resolved in an unexpected way. I can’t wait to see how Kaely’s story wraps up in the third book, coming out next year!

Here we are back with book two in this series. More creepy things, mystery and all the gloomy stuff to get your heart pumping. One fiery arson case.

We see Kaely and Noah's romance progress in this story, but not a lot it was just kind of in the background. The story stayed focus more on her profiling job than anything else in this story.

While this book could stand on it's own. (different crime and all) I recommend that you do start with the first one to full understand the family dynamics that run through this one. The ended, there were a few things that felt a bit unresolved. Perhaps they'll get fleshed out in the next book.

While I didn't love this book as much as the first one, It's still a great thrilling read.

The first Kaely Quinn story blew me away! I didn't know how the rest of the series would live up to the first one. While it is very different, since Kaely deals with an arsonist. it was still an excellent, suspenseful story. I enjoyed getting to know Kaely better as she continues to process her upbringing and how it has shaped her into the profiler she is. I look forward to the next book!

Kaely Quinn is back. She is taking time off to care for her mother, but of course things heat up in her mother's small town. Kaely finds herself profiling a serial arsonist. Nancy Mehl really has a way with suspense! She has created an intriguing character in Kaely Quinn. She is multi-faceted character who is becoming more comfortable with sharing her faith. I really enjoy reading Kaely's stories, even if they do cost me sleep! There is also a touch of romance which is quite enjoyable. So grab a cup of hot chocolate and curl up for a long night...you can forget sleep until you are done!

I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley.com with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

I’m reviewing a copy of Fire Storm through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

After Kaely, Quinn, an FBI Profiler, learns her Mother has been diagnosed with Cancer, she takes time off of work to go to Dark Water Nebraska, to help her brother care for their Mother. After she arrives she learns of a series of fires in the small town, the fire chief attributes the fires to the use of Space Heaters in the frigid winter. Kaley is skeptical about that explanation and as she searched for a pattern in those fires her suspicions are only heightened.

After another blaze devastates yet another local family Kaely is sure that a serial arsonist is on the loose. Kaely calls on her partner from Saint Louis, Noah Hunter and her brothers firefighter neighbor who backs Kaely suspicions. Kaely’s team begins an investigation that quickly leads down a twisted path. When the truth is finally revealed, Kaely finds herself confronting a madman who is determined to make his last heinous act her death.

Will Kaely become the final victim of a madman?

I give Fire Storm five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

This is the second book in this series and you really need to read the first one to get the back story. I loved the first book. It had so many twists and turns and surprises. This book was a must read for me too. I loved the characters and the story line but most of all, I loved the surprises that the author threw in

After reading the first book in this series, Mind Games, I simply couldn't wait to read another novel about the unorthodox, Kaely Quinn, FBI profiler! Tough as nails, Kaely, is as vulnerable as she is gritty...especially when it comes to her handsome, humorous partner, Noah Hunter. Although not wanting to get too close to him personally, Kaely knows no one better to confront a madman with than Noah.

I especially love the camaraderie between these two...as Noah seeks to overlook Kaely's sometimes eerie methods of profiling the bad guy. I craved a deliciously creepy suspense and once again one of my fave authors of spine-chilling thrillers didn't disappoint. I kept switching back and forth in my guessing game as to who the lunatic was, only to discover I was wrong the whole time!

Fire Storm may be easily read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading Mind Games first. Filled with wonderful, hair-raising suspense—it will help you to become better acquainted with Kaely and Noah's personal history. A chilling "roller coaster of a ride" that will keep you guessing and madly flipping those pages...be sure to order Fire Storm today!
