I love these little books, I think they are such a great idea for children, or anyone who wants to know interesting little bits of information about interesting people.

The pictures are great, and they are short enough that they will hold a child's attention.

Another strong title from this great little series of nonfiction biographies for children - and the adults reading to them. (And also worth picking up even if you're an adult with no intentions of reading to children, in my opinion.) It does a great job in condensing the remarkable and inspiring life of Mahatma Gandhi into a short book. I learned a couple of things about his background that I hadn't realized. And the book does a good job of highlighting his approach to injustice, peaceful protest and resistance.

This book gives in a very suitable way a short overview over the live of Mohanda Gandhi. Each page contains wonderful illustrations and a very short and simple text narrating the most important steps on Gandhis way. Even for me this was informative. I never knew that Gandhi went from his studies in Britain first to South Africa. I always thought he was 'active' only in India.

Naturally this book can give only a very abridged version of Gandhis biography, but at least the young reader has heard about this person already and hopefully he/she will learn more about him later at school.

Only the price is a bit high, a tenner would be my limit for a short book like this.

The author of many of the books in Little People, BIG DREAMS series, Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara is never better than here with her simple prose and well selected words. This gentle story of the life of
Mahatma Gandhi is told without drama and hyperbole; the basic facts reveal the nature of this amazing person and special life.
A clever man he was educated to degree level in London where he graduated in law. He practised in South Africa and found further examples of discrimination, racial injustice and inequality.
He understood being thrown of public transport, echoes of another story. He instigated peaceful demonstration for civil rights. Copied the world over and currently practiced in the U.K with the Extinction Rebellion: London climate protest.
Imprisoned and refusing to eat he was a national hero in his home country India. This gentle man adopted a simple approach to challenge the harsh rule ofcolonial Great Britain attracting support and a following across all religious and political divides, rich or poor.
A person worthy of his place here and what is more here is a wonderful series where the larger collection of books makes for an excellent box set.

A wonderful book with the sweetest illustrations! A brief history of the life of Mahatma Gandhi and a reminder that we can protest things we don't like in a non-violent way. Even adults can learn a lot from this little book. Great for all ages.

Another installment in the wonderful Little People, Big Dreams series, Mahatma Gandhi's story is retold simply and sweetly, focusing on the way he showed the world the inherent power of peace and patience. Adorable illustrations pair perfectly with the easy-to-follow text, presenting many opportunities for children to ask probing questions or for adults to open up conversation about various important issues and ideas in an age-appropriate way.

My children enjoyed this short-but-impactful title so much they requested a re-reading the next night, and enjoyed learning about Gandhi and his legacy so much that seeing his photos at the end of the book was quite a special moment - connecting the little boy with big dreams with a real person they could connect with.

This is not one of the books we read very commonly, but, I considered it useful. Do you want to teach your children better? How about teaching them about the importance of waiting, of not paying badly with evil, of seeing for the interests of others, social justice, love of neighbor, humility? ... in this little book you can review the life of Mahatma Gandhi and learn some interesting facts that maybe you do not yet know. You can take advantage of important issues like the ones I mentioned before and interesting questions can also arise, like my 8 year old daughter ... about how they used to find salt before and why it was so important. My 12yo son was near when we read it and he heard and enjoyed it as well, asked some questions about other countries. I'm sure you can take advantage of this kind of historical, biographical books. I think it may be useful for you to know that It is a simple book to read if your children are learning English or if it is not their 1st language.

No es uno de los libros sobre los cuales leemos muy comúnmente, pero, lo consideré útil. ¿Quieres enseñar a tus hijos mejor? ¿qué tal enseñarles sobre la importancia de esperar, de no pagar mal con mal, de ver por los intereses de los demás, justicia social, amor al prójimo, humildad?... en este pequeño libro podrás repasar en resumen la vida de Mahatma Gandhi y aprender algunos datos interesantes que quizá aún no conocen. Puedes aprovechar para tratar temas importantes como los que te comenté antes y pueden también surgir preguntas interesantes, como la de mi hija de 8 años... sobre cómo encontraban antes la sal y por qué era tan importante. Estoy segura que se le puede sacar jugo a este tipo de libros históricos, biográficos. Es un libros sencillo de leer si tus hijos están aprendiendo inglés.
Se aproxima el día del niño, es cuando este libro saldrá a la venta.

This is a wonderful entry in a wonderful series. With its lovely and appealing illustrations, along with a simple (yet profound) story line, this book gives young readers a chance to learn more about a most impressive man. Even as an adult, I learned things about Gandhi that I had not known while reading this book. Gandhi was a man who stood up (and sat down) for his beliefs in equality and self-government, always invoking peaceful protest. He is a man to be admired.

It's a short book, yet tells the story of Gandhi in a nice way for kids. I also liked the illustrations.

A very interesting and informative book that young readers would particularly be attracted to due to the vibrant colors and solid information.

After copious women, the honour of being third (or is it fourth?) male in this very decent series of books for the very young goes to Mohandas Gandhi, lawyer, campaigner, pacifist and assassination victim. Smoothing over some of that for the very young, this book portrays Gandhi – and his peaceful, ever-present bird avatar – in all stages of his life. Sometimes the artwork is given little to do – ooh, random people – but that's because these books pare the story of these heroic figures back to a little over two hundred words, if that. They do it well, even if I have to agree that the benefit of parental or tutorial expansion into ideas of religious difference and racism might be needed in this instance. It's not a bad primer, however, and that's all this colourful, intelligent series is designed to be.

This is a lovely addidtion to this series. It is perfect to read to or with young children. The unique illustrations are lovely. Once again, another one of these I have enjoyed.

I love this series! Yet another great addition! I loved the pictures, the simplicity of the text for younger minds - but also how the book still includes details to pique children's interest. Another favorite!

I'm sad to say that there was lot in this little children's book that I didn't know or else forgot about Gandhi. Once again Sanchez Vegara does a wonderful job showcasing a great person in history. She makes Gandhi's story understandable for little ones without discounting the truth of it.

"Mahatma Gandhi" is another quality addition to the "Little People, Big Dream" series. While the history behind Gandhi's revolutionary movements was brutal, unfair and violent, this little book, however, manages to bring out the dark sides of history in a positive way through uplifting text and illustrations. The focus of the book is about Gandhi's determination to reform using the power of peace rather than the power of force. Such a great little book for children to get acquainted with Gandhi. .

This is a very sanitized children's biographical picture book. It's not that I was expecting it to talk about Gandhi's explicit racism, mistreatment of his family, or sexual habits... but I would've liked at least a bit of skepticism. This book almost deifies him, while ignoring all of the problematic aspects of his life.

Unlike with some of the other books in this series, I did sort of like the illustrations in this one. That's a plus. On the downside, the book refers to Gandhi as "Mahatma" before that term is actually explained; that should've been caught by an editor.

Knowing what we now know about Gandhi, this was a risky choice of topic for a picture book. I was hoping to have at least some of the controversy addressed. Instead, this is a very one-sided look at a man who may have done some great things... but was far from a saint in other respects. Such an uncritical look at a person's life tends to read more like propaganda than a balanced biography. So I can't really recommend this one.

Mahatma Gandhi is a new biography for young readers in the Little People, Big Dreams series. I've reviewed a number of these titles and they all manage to pack an impressive amount of detail in these little books in an age-appropriate and accessible manner.

Due out 2nd May 2019 from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint, it'll be 32 pages and will be available in hardcover, and ebook formats.

Written by Isabel Sánchez Vegara it's well written in clear accessible language. The gentle and sweetly humorous illustrations were well done. I loved the picture of young Gandhi with the dove (see cover illustration). The art by Albert Arrayas is appealing and colorful and supports the text very well. The illustrations are rich in small subtle details which bear a closer look.

Well written and appealing, I am really enjoying all of these little books. This one is a worthy addition.

Five stars. This would make a superlative reading circle book, classroom library book, or gift.

Loved this simple but effective biographical storybook about the life and works of Ghandi. A powerful figure in India. This is a perfect storybook to read to older toddlers and introduce them to famous, revolutionary figures. A must buy!

Cute little book of Gandhi's life and achievements, definitely simplified but book is still enjoyable for older children as well. Definitely interested in checking out the other books including this series!

This book was another addition to the „Little People, Big Dreams“ series. It covered the life of Mahatma Gandhi, starting in his early childhood.
While this book sums up important parts of Gandhi‘s life in an easy manner that’s appropriate for kids, it felt like he was idolized a bit too much for my liking.
„Mahatma Gandhi“ wasn’t my favorite in this series, but it’s a good read for young children nevertheless.
