Her Deadly Secrets
(Wolfe Security #2)
by Laura Griffin

Paperback, 368 pages
Expected publication: July 2nd 2019 by Gallery Books

Goodreads synopsis:
Private Investigator Kira Vance spends her days navigating the intricate labyrinth of Houston’s legal world, and she knows all of its shadowy players and dark secrets.

On a seemingly normal day, she’s delivering a report to her top client when suddenly everything goes sideways and the meeting ends in a bloodbath. Twenty-four hours later, the police have no suspects but one thing is clear: a killer has Kira in his sights.

Fiercely independent, Kira doesn’t expect—or want—help from anyone, least of all an unscrupulous lawyer and his elite security team. Instead, she launches her own investigation, hoping to uncover the answers that have eluded the police. But as Kira’s hunt for clues becomes more and more perilous, she realizes that she alone may hold the key to finding a vicious murderer. And she knows she must take help wherever she can find it if she wants to stay alive.

This is the second book in the Wolfe Security series. This is a sort of male-driven romantic suspense book. I am not sure the title really fits the story, though. The synopsis only mentions the female lead but the series is called Wolfe Security so you’d think they would take a moment to mention which Wolfe Security guy this book is featuring. Book 1 in this series is titled Desperate Girls.

The story starts off as a split lead. First we get the entrance scene of Kira Vance a private investigator who witnesses the death of her colleague, Ollie and then it is quickly followed by the entrance scene of Jeremy Owens. He is coming off another job and has not had adequate sleep or even debriefed before they pull him in as a bodyguard to Kira. Then the POV moves to a more overreaching one where you see what everyone is doing only focusing on Kira or Jeremy alone here and there.

Kira is not the most agreeable client for Wolfe Security. She wants to find out what happened to Ollie and she is willing to break laws and into Ollie’s home to get clues much to Jeremy’s dismay. They get caught by the police and somehow quickly let go. But Kira dives into other not so legal means to find information. Sometimes it is helpful to the investigation and sometimes it just lands her into more trouble. But she quickly gets under Jeremy’s skin making him think about doing things with Kira that would force him to give up his protection detail. Emotional things that might end up with both of them shedding clothes and doing inappropriate things.

I thought this was overall pretty good. I enjoyed all the suspenseful aspects. Kira proved to be quite hardheaded and she made an excellent female lead. Jeremy seemed the more strong and silent type but somehow he felt almost more present in the scenes than Kira. Quite an imposing character even when he wasn’t talking. I thought that said a lot about Griffin’s writing style. It would be difficult to make and character say nothing but still be quite imposing in the scene.

The sex scene wasn’t too over the top but I think the kiss in the car was much hotter in my opinion. Pair the intensity of the situation with their burbling chemistry and a spark between them was sure to burn to an engulfing emotional fire.

Overall just an excellent read. Highly recommended.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

This second installment of the Wolfe Security series explores the challenges of stopping a killer when the motives are unknown.

Kira Vance's life is far from perfect. She's struggling PI, who is good at her job, but not good enough to pay the bills. A tragic event involving the death of her friend and fellow PI, Oliver "Ollie" Kovak, gives her an opportunity to change the course of her life. So long as she isn't killed in the process.

With a prominent lawyer, Brock Logan, losing his key investigator and entering a critical trial just days away, he hires Kira to help his team. While she greatly accepts the opportunity, she has one focus, finding who killed Ollie. And as she begins to unravel the mystery, she discovers the hit on her friend may have ties to Logan's trial.

Joining Kira in her search for the killer is Jeremy Owens, who is hired along with his Wolfe Security team, to protect Logan and his key employees. Kira is a bit bull headed, making Jeremy's job a lot more difficult, but I think with time, he comes to appreciate her tenacity. There's also some chemistry that builds between them, and I felt how they handled it was honest and realistic.

I was impressed with Kira's investigative ability, she seemed to be one step ahead of the police detectives, Charlotte Spears and Ken Phan. With time, they come to understand that they are on the same side and do a better job of sharing information, which is a change from how things kicked off. There isn't much evidence to work with, given the number of robberies and deaths along the way, but Kira is resourceful. Once the killer(s) become known, it is just a matter of stopping them before more people get hurt - not an easy task as this book proves.

Overall, this was a well-plotted story, combining a mystery and romance in a logical way (not too rushed). I also enjoyed the paring of Kira and Jeremy, they felt like a good match, who could make the difference in their jobs, work for the long term. I'm looking forward to more in this series at each member of Wolfe Security finds their own HEA.

I just love Laura Griffin. The mystery/thriller/romance genre that she writes in is so unique from all the other thrillers I read and I always enjoy her stories. I won a copy of Desperate Girls last year in a Goodreads giveaway (the first book in this series) and absolutely fell in love. So I knew I had to read the next in the series, Her Deadly Secrets.

This cover speaks to me so much. I think it's fantastic and really draws your eye in. Every time I see the cover for this book I do a double take because it's pretty breathtaking.

But beyond the cover, the story itself is wonderful. Wolfe Security is enlisted to protect a private investigator whose life is in danger. She was hired by a prominent physician's defense team to investigate a case in which he's accused of murdering his wife. But when they find themselves in the middle of a bloodbath where one of their own is killed, they must enlist the security group to provide protection from the unknown assassin.

Laura Griffin's stories are always such a slow burn which are usually not my favorite because they tend to be on the boring side. But she has this way of keeping the story moving and keeping the reader reading with her storytelling abilities. The mysteries are always well thought out and keep me on my toes. But to top it all off, the romance is always icing on the cake for me. In a genre that's usually dark and twisty, she injects romantic elements that give the story a unique flare that I really enjoy.

I will say that I think the romance had a little more sexual tension in Desperate Girls so I think I enjoyed that relationship a tad more. But the relationship in Her Deadly Secrets was still steamy and enjoyable at the end of the day.

If you haven't read Laura Griffin's work, I would highly recommend it. She's become a "must read" author for me and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

-I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Laura Griffin, and Gallery Books for the opportunity to review.-

Non-stop action from beginning to end. Hard to put down, great mystery, relatable characters. Sexual tension on top of the tension of the situation unfolding. Enjoyed this book from beginning to end.

Thank you NetGalley and Laura Griffin for ARC of Her Deadly Secrets that I read and reviewed.
I loved this book which was the second in the Wolfe Security Series by Laura Griffin. This is about private investigator Kira Vance who is in the wrong place and is involved in a shooting where her mentor is killed and very wealthy lawyer is shot. Now the lawyer wants her help with his clients case and he is willing to pay Wolfe Security to keep his whole team safe.
I loved how this book played out and how Kira and Jeremy her “bodyguard” were such a great match. This book kept me on my toes the entire time I was reading it and Griffin did not disappoint with her second book in this series. It made me wanting more of the Wolfe Team right away.
I am giving Her Deadly Secrets five out of five stars.

Laura Griffin has become one of my favorite authors and I enjoy everything she writes. She knows how to write edge of the seat suspense with romance and strong female leads.

Kira, a PI is stunned when her partner is murdered right in front of her. Even though she doesn’t understand why someone would murder him, Kira doesn’t think she is in danger and is upset when she learns Jeremy is hired to protect her. Kira is too busy trying to solve the mystery of why someone would want to kill her colleague, she doesn’t have time to waste on a bodyguard who wants to know her every move.

Jeremy is former military and takes his job as a bodyguard seriously. When he meets Kira he knows she will make his life difficult because she resents being hampered by a bodyguard. Jeremy knows he shouldn’t get involved with a client, but he can’t seem to help his attraction to Kira. Jeremy admires everything about Kira, especially her dedication to her job. Jeremy is all alpha male: protective, strong and silent.

Jeremy and Kira are hot on the trail of a killer. They are using all their instincts and knowledge to figure out what is happening and why people are being killed. This is a fast paced, heart pounding suspenseful story. The only issue I had with this story was the ending seemed abrupt to me. I would have liked an epilogue telling us how Jeremy and Kira work everything out. This is the second book in the Wolfe security series.

Her Deadly Secrets by Laura Griffin is the 2nd book in her Wolfe Security series. I am a big fan of Laura Griffin and her Tracers series, which is great; and now with Wolfe Security, we have another suspenseful series to enjoy.

Kira Vance, our heroine and a Private Investigator, finds herself in a dangerous situation at the start. She arranges to meet her boss at their current client’s house to review findings from her investigation, and quickly is in the middle of a shootout, which kills her boss.

Kira continues to work on the investigation for the client, who is a lawyer working on a high-profile case, and because of the situation and possible danger, she is assigned a bodyguard to protect her from Wolfe Security.
Jeremy, our hero, works for Wolfe Security, who are protecting the lawyer, the law firm and now Kira. Kira is very independent and confident, as well as smart and savvy. She at first tries to do her own thing, but Jeremy refuses to let her be alone, which works out as Kira becomes a target, putting her life in danger; especially after she continues to come up with more clues as to who and what is behind the murders. Jeremy slowly finds himself attracted to Kira, which is something he is trying to avoid, as it would affect his job. This romance is slow build, and more in the background to the story line.

There is also another POV of the female detective, Charlotte, who is on the case. She is tough, but she is also as independent as Kira, and is willing to work long days without rest to find the murderer. She suspects Kira is keeping secrets, but in the end, both will help each other with their findings. This was very well done, as we got to see two different perspectives for the same crime, and the clues begin to tie in.

What follows is an exciting, tense, suspenseful adventure, with two great female leads. I loved Kira, and really liked Jeremy too; though the romance remained in the background til closer to the end, they did make a great couple. Wolfe Security has a lot of wonderful characters, which we will get more stories from them in future books. Her Deadly Secrets was very exciting, edge of your seat story; as well as tense, especially as the danger for our heroes escalates. If you enjoy mystery, exciting suspense with romance, then you should be reading Laura Griffin.

I am a fan of Laura Griffin and her ability to write in dept stories characters who are driven to find the truth.

The author is able to create Kira as if she could be anyone a readers knows. You sister neighbor even your best friend. The story has a flows and keeps readers needing to find the answer Kira is looking to find.

The Wolfe Security series hits it out of the park once again. The story has action suspense, romance and more characters readers will be excited to get to know as the series progresses.

The author has created an amazing cast of characters, the dark vs the light and strong female and male leads that will Laura Griffin is known for.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Laura Griffin Her Deadly Secrets.

Less than twenty-four hours is what it took me to devour Griffins latest work, Her Deadly Secret, book number two in the Wolfe Security series.

P.I. Kira Vance finds herself personally involved with a murder case. The law firm she's been working with has decided that an added security detail is needed to not only her and the lawyers she'd been working with not only safe but alive as well.

As always, Griffin writes smart, capable female leads who are always in charge and ready to get the job done. This is why she has been and will always remain on my one-click-list.

Her Deadly Secret is an all-encompassing dynamic read that is sure to skyrocket to the top of any list this summer.

Kira is a private investigator and knows all in ins and outs of law. When her mentor wants her to deliver some papers to his clients house. While there someone knocks and Ollie goes to answer it only to be shot. The shooter goes in the house and shoots Logan, the owner and lawyer. Jeremy was a Marine but now works for one of the best security firms. After a bad op, he arrives home only to go straight to another job. His firm is hired to protect Logan and his team that are defending a doctor accused of murdering his wife. Jeremy is head of Kira’s team and is very attracted to her. As they try to figure out why Ollie was killed and by whom, others end up dead and the case gets more complicated by the day. Can Jeremy keep his focus on the job and keep Kira safe?
Great story with action and suspense. It will leave you guessing to the very end. A good way to pass a dreary day. A little steamy. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Her Deadly Secrets is the romantic suspense book in the Wolfe Security. I found this book entertaining. Laura Griffin writes amazing characters, I was completely engrossed in their lives and look forward to read more from Laura and the Wolf Security.

Excellent story. Plenty of action and suspense.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One thing I love about most of Griffin's books is that she combines the best of police action/security thriller with a romantic twist. She always has the best looking guys along with some bad ass women that enhance the entire story.
This book is no different and I love the twist that the female main character is a PI herself. Paired with a yummy hottie, they are in a race against time to break open in this case.
Griffin writes with zeal and I love the fact that she takes the time to know her topics well enough to make them incredibly believable. The story was a little late and a bit light on the physical romance although the build up was definitely there. Plus, the ending left a lot open for the next book in the series.
In-depth, entertaining, suspenseful, heated, and a damn well written story that you will not want to put down, Her Deadly Secrets by Laura Griffin is definitely one to grab this summer!!
Her Deadly Secrets was a murder mystery with a dash of romance. This was my first time reading Laura Griffin and I thought it was a decent book. I didn't know before reading that this was part of a series, but I still feel like I could follow along with the story.
The story follows private investigator, Kira Vance. She is used to following others and now she finds herself mixed in an investigation where she is being watched. There are twists and turns that had me gasping a few times while I was reading.
The author wrote using multiple points of view. I found that it was a little hard for me to remember what characters perspective was which. I feel like it would have worked to just have had Kira's perspective.
I always enjoy reading romance, so I did like the romance aspect of the book. Laura Griffin showcased love even in the toughest of situations.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. The mystery was great in adding suspense but felt it was lacking in the romance department. This book is categorized as being a romantic suspense novel but I thought that the "love interest' and 'their connection' was brought up too far into the book. Even though I wished there was a little more relationship development between Kira and her love interest, I would still recommend this to my suspense fans.
The story of a female private eye, Kira, and how strong she is in a male dominated field. Also has a female detective, who is calling the shots. Kira takes over her boss’s lead after he was killed in front of her. Truly a fast pace read on the case. Lover the Wolfe Security team that the lawyers hire to protect them. Great writing. Couldn’t read fast enough to see what would happen. Received as a ARC copy.
Her Deadly Secrets, is a great who did it and is still doing it book. Jeremy is very professional, I respected that about him. Kira is able to hold her own for the most part against the people who want her dead. Having Jeremy there is a huge plus.
Her Deadly Secrets is another release by Laura Griffin. I have read a lot of books (and a few novellas) by Laura including all of the Tracers and Alpha Crew series. Her Deadly Secrets continues Laura's penchant for equal parts thriller, romance, and independent women falling for sexy, tough guys.
Her Deadly Secrets is a spin-off from the Tracers Series as it features Wolfe Security which was introduced in book #9 ShadowFall, but it could work well as a standalone. In Her Deadly Secrets we are introduced to the latest smart and capable female character, Private Investigator Kira Vance. The action starts off with a bang (literally!) as Kira walks into a scenario where her mentor and boss is gunned down with the killer narrowly missing the opportunity to issue her the same fate. Kira, knowing the importance of acting swiftly, does her best to push aside her grief to catch the killer. To do this Kira has to work with (and sometimes work around) the police and her private bodyguards from Wolfe Security who were hired by a high powered lawyer that was also at the scene of the crime and is the center of the investigation. Oh yeah and her main obstacle; the killer who is still on the lose and will soon have her back in his sights.
Kira's head of security is Jeremy Owen (also featured in ShadowFall). Fresh off another security job Jeremy has had little rest so in addition to being the strong, silent type he's a little grumpy and it makes for some fun, cheeky dialogue between he and Kira as they navigate thru the twists and turns of the case.
A few things bothered me about this book. As with a lot of novels sometimes you have to suspend reality but there is way too many missteps and breaches to take Wolfe Security seriously. It's hard to buy into the premise that these are completely capable tough guys when they often do things that make them look simply like dumb jocks. I enjoyed Kira as a PI but in her personal life she sometimes came across as immature and needy which made her slightly less appealing. Jeremy was well suited as the strong, silent type completely committed to his duties so the mid-story romance annoyed me more anything. I wish the author would have taken a departure from her usual writing style and saved the romance to the end.
SIDENOTE: Maybe I've read so many of Laura Griffin's books that they're now intertwining in my mind because instead of enjoying this budding romance I was longing for a reunion between Jeremy and M.J. a female rookie cop that was featured in ShadowFall and imo better suited for Jeremy.
But overall Her Deadly Secrets was a good read. High on action, romance and suspense it's a quick thrill ride with a twist I didn't see coming. It will be interesting to see what else is in store for Wolfe Security.
Her Deadly Secrets was an exciting and intense romantic suspese novel that made me feel like I was a part of the investigation myself.
There are many moving parts and multiple points of view in Her Deadly Secrets, it was told in third person, but I was always able to navigate whose head I was inside of at the time. The multiple points of view actually made the story more exciting because we the reader have more information that each of the characters individually.
One my favorite things is when a couple falls in love while being chased by a killer and although this couple hadn't said they loved each other I was more than happy with the way their relationship played out. It wasn't the main focus of the story, because hello a murder is after you!!
Her Deadly Secrets is actually the second book in the Wolfe Security series and although you can read this a standalone I will go back and read the first book and continue on with this series and find out what happens with the rest of the Wolfe Security team.
This romantic suspense series intriguing, guile and a must read for anyone who loves murder with a side or romance when reading.
Romantic Suspense is what is expected when one picks up a book by Laura Griffin. The first half of This second entry in the Wolfe Security series lacks both. The main characters are interesting and easily distinguished. There just isn't a lot of chemistry or banter. Kira and her bodyguard don't have the type of interaction that leads to banter but give me more chemistry and throw in another hot sex scene.
One of my favorite things about this book is that it follows the POV of two women, a private detective and a police detective, who played a big part investigating and breaking open the murder case this book is based on. I love to see when women are shown just as smart and capable of doing what some believe is a mans job.
Kira was a fascinating heroine to follow in this book. She's more or less just starting out as a private detective. Her mentor was just murdered in front of her and now she has to step into his shoes to not only find the killer but also link that killer to the murder case they were investigating for the defense attorney.
She's a confident woman but also knew her limitations. When the law office hired security for the defense team, she handled it very well. I love a smart and confident woman but not when she thinks she's invincible, and we don't have that with Kira.
I got to know Jeremy a bit in one of the author's Tracer books. I liked him then and I liked him now. He's the strong, silent type which happen to be my favorite. I liked that we got to see him battle with his attraction to Kira. If we didn't, I don't think these two would have been believable.
If I had one complaint, it was that Jeremy and Kira's romance was on the back burner to the investigation. I would have loved more for them but the investigation was pretty exciting to read about and really kept my attention. This is one thing I am learning about this author, she really knows how to grab your attention and keep it.
