This is the second book in the Wolfe Security series but can be read as a stand-alone as the use of familiar characters are the only familiarity between the two books. While the plot line itself did not hold much distinction to others of the genre, Griffin does keep her audience captive with her strategic writing style and creative characters. The main character and heroine, Kiera, though thoroughly evolved could have benefited from a deeper delve into her past. It felt as though the reader was brought just to the cusp of understanding who she was but left not knowing the entire story. As if a bit of her was missing. Nonetheless, the slow-burn chemistry between Kiera and Jeremy is beautifully frustrating, proving Laura Griffin knows how to keep the reader engaged and flipping the pages. The mystery of whodunnit was a constant tease and the foreshadowing keeps the reader guessing until the very end. Those going in expecting a fast-paced suspense will be let down, this is a steady-paced romantic mystery. 4 stars.

Private Investigator Kira Vance  gets a front row seat to her mentor/associate being gunned down and killed. Her life is then upended as the lawyer her associate and herself were helping with a current high profile case hires Wolfe Security to protect his firm along with Kira. She isn't to happy to have a bodyguard following her around but soon realizes that the killer didn't get what they wanted the first time and now have set their sites on her.

This series checks all the boxes for Romantic Suspense but I miss the in depth details of the Tracers series. The women in this series are also the most tenacious and at times overbearing females which didn't work for me in the first book but Kira was much more tolerable. I do love that these take place in familiar locations in Texas that I know.

This story started out with a bang and just kept going. The characters were likable and and I loved our smart, female Private Investigator heroine. I found it interesting that I didn't immediately know our heroines love interest, since there are several new alpha male characters who were introduced. Usually the connection between love interests is instant and obvious, so this was something new.

The plot was also complex. There were many unanswered questions along the way, and the mystery of who was actually the intended target added intrigue.

It was a fun surprise when the main character came in contact with Fiona Glass, from the Glass Sisters series--both books in that series were excellent. You really can't go wrong with this author.

As for the ending, I found it satisfying and thought it worked to have everything wrapped up and finalized--even if done somewhat abruptly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I enjoyed it. It has a lot of action and suspense, plus a nice undertone of romance between the two lead characters, Kira and Jeremy. Being from Houston, I really enjoyed the connection I felt to the setting. I hope this is the first in a series about the Wolff Security group; if so, I will definitely read the others. If you like romantic suspense, give this one a try.

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for providing an ARC for review.

I think I've just read too many crime dramas lately and this one was good but just didn't hold my attention like others have. Kira is a PI working on a case when her boss is gunned down suddenly and she must unravel the case on her own. Fortunately the security company hired to protect her features handsome and virile Jeremy to whom she is immediately attracted. Lots of possible leads but it took a long time to make any progress (or at least it seemed to me) and the romance took up more of my time than the actual plot-line surrounding the murder. I know there are lots of Laura Griffin fans out there and I think I will have better luck with her first series that's gotten really good reviews!

Full review to be published online in mid July.

HER DEADLY SECRETS is the second book in Laura Griffin's new 'Wolfe Security' series. I have to admit up front that I gave up on the first book in this series and did not finish it. I simply never got into the storyline. Being a huge fan of Griffin's, I of course gave her another shot. I ran into some of the same problems, however. The romance was awkward and the suspense clunky and disjointed. I didn't find any if the magic I've found in other books by this author. In fact, I find it difficult to believe that this was even written by the same author who gave us the wonderful 'Tracers' series. Color me disappointed.

‘Her Deadly Secrets’ is the murder mystery aficionado’s sort of read—and a little different in than the usual Laura Griffin Tracers style—, as PI Kira Vance finds herself somewhat over her head investigating an associate’s murder and the hot-shot lawyer that she suddenly reports to.

But the security team that he’s called on her brings on a tagalong bodyguard that she resists, until it seems that what she’s looking at is a vicious killer who’s got her in his sights.

It’s a template that has been told many times before—variations on a theme in a way, that Kira Vance treads where many others have trodden before. As a police-procedural-type series with an intense focus on the unsolved crime, this works perfectly fine.

But the book’s billing as romantic suspense however, doesn’t, especially not when the romance has been written in awkwardly, with 2 people thrown together by force and then suddenly developing a romance when there’s a distinct lack of romantic chemistry between them.

For someone who expected a bit more of the latter after going through Griffin’s Tracers books, I was actually taken aback with surprise when the first kiss happened, left incredulous with anything that hinted of romance between them past the initial, weak attraction. In short, Kira/Jeremy as a pairing were sidelined here so much that I hesitated to even call this a connection (as hurriedly as it was developed) in favour of tying all the loose ends of the plot up.

It isn’t to say that the book isn’t written with Griffin’s usual aplomb: meticulously planned and executed with the kind of writing that pulls you in.

But the storytelling felt somewhat unbalanced—exciting at the start, only to head, rather frustratingly, into a lacklustre and sagging middle—along with a romance that hardly took off. In short, ‘Her Deadly Secrets’ is probably a book suited to those who prefer the journey of uncovering the whodunnit mystery than following the emotional development of the protagonists.

I am fan of Ms Griffin's previous books and was looking forward this one. I'm happy to say that it had the interesting plot, excellent pacing and satisfying romantic elements that I expect. I devoured it in a day and am hoping for more additions to the Wolfe Security series.

Kira finds herself in the middle of a murder when she goes and confronts her boss and the house of their biggest client. Her mentor and boss is killed in front of her and she knows she's not going to stop until they get the killer or killers. Hired to protect is her is Jeremy and when she meets him she has no idea what lies ahead. She , they have a instant chemistry and you can feel it in the words. thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this.
