I was looking forward to this, however, after receiving a copy from a friend I realised this is not the horror I thought it would be. Whilst the premise is good the execution is lacking - the novel dragged and I didn't like the characters. Not for me.

When a young widower seeks assistance from a British nanny, two twins seem like the biggest challenge. What Nila, the young nanny is not expecting is to have to battle an ancient evil for the souls of the twins.

Nila's Babies suffers from the curse of telling, not showing. It takes a hot minute to get into the action, and many readers may be put off by how the story is told.

Tipping from mystery into occult territory, Nila's Babies is a gothically stimulating psychological horror tale featuring a bi-racial nanny, a widower, his twin daughters, and one demon who has big plans for all those who cross her path.

Excellent character development, delightful dialogue, and just plain good storytelling.

I thought this was an interesting concept, however it fell well short of what I expected... the story line was just too far off leftfield for me unfortunately.

Lurking in this book are the seeds of a decent story but unfortunately they need a more skilled writer to bring them to life. The premise is interesting - a twist on the legend of Lilith - but the execution is clumsy rendering it ridiculous. There are big leaps in the plot to drive things along instead of taking time to establish characters and there's little to recommend here.

Maybe it will improve in the next book but I don't know that I want to find out.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation..

Scary, atmospheric, creepy and enjoyable. Great book that was a real page turner. Good story and relatable characters

The book has potential but falls very short. It was well written but the storyline was just too weird even for me and I've read some doozies. I'm sad to say that this has put me off trying anything else by this author.

My Review

When it comes to reviews I usually will like to see what others thinks about the book I am reading. However, that does not deter me from reading a book if the reviews are negative. However, I am sorry to say in this instant most reviews were accurate. The book is a bit strange. I had a hard time staying interested. Even from the beginning it felt as if it was all over the place. Because I wanted to give an honest opinion I finished the book.

So, based on my reading I cannot honestly give this a very good rating. It was strange all around - the photos, getting Lilith out of Hattie’s body into Raven’s body..... just not written very well. The book definitely has potential. I hope the next book will be better.

This book was provided for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a very, very strange book. I expected it to paranormal, but it went way beyond what I was expecting! So strange! Not my cup of tea but if you love all things weird and other worldly then this may be for you.

Sad to say it is a DNF for me. I just couldn’t get with the writing style, but that’s not to say that it won’t work for someone else’s reading style!

This book has a super interesting premise but unfortunately, the execution does not live up to that expectation. This is a very weird book, I find it hard to even describe. Ultimately I was expecting a horror story and while there are certainly horror elements, the book doesn't spend much time on its most interesting parts. Many of the characters haven't been fleshed out either. Nila's Babies just falls short all around.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

I was unable to finish this book. It was hard to get into and disappointing.

A very awkward and uninteresting book - I found no horror or thrill in this novel. Nila's babies is another take on the Skeleton Key, devoid of any cohesive actions by the very superficial and at times, absurd characters. Nila doing a minstrel accent gravely offended me and I don't understand what the author was thinking putting something like that in.

Nila's Babies had such potential and has a interesting storyline. It just fell short of reaching the destination. I would still try this author again because I think there is potential.

I was expecting a horror and got a very weird book. It's well written but it isn't my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I hadn’t read anything about this book. I started to read it and thought this is going to be ok. Then ist started to get weird . The characters had two heads and one came back from the dead. Not my kind of book at all. Will teach me to read a synopsis first.

I have to say I was disappointed with NILAS BABIES. I was hoping to find something along the line of ROSEMARYS BABY, but it was a big let down for me personally.
It started out slow, but I finished it and was disappointed at the ending.
Personally, I didn't feel anything for the characters and at times I felt as if a machine had written the story. Things I wanted to see more of were skimmed over, whereas too much time was devoted to things such as dress shows.
For instance, Juba is the Ashanti with powers to protect her family, yet we only hear of this via secondhand. Her brother tells her son, who then manages to tell his ex wife and daughter. I would like to have seen Jubas back story. Instead we are given a picture of a bitter old woman who manages to destroy her son's marriage and still fails to get the granddaughter she wants.
Next the characters Gordy and Nila, weren't very meaningful to me. One looses the love of his life, only to fall for the nanny, then cheats on her ????? By the end I was hoping they'd be killed just to get it over with .
In my opinion, Devon is the best character, but even she and Hattie are merely briefly described. Their backstory are skimmed over.
I think this has an enormous potential to be a good story, but as it is it is merely disappointing. I feel as if the writer was merely trying to get something on the market because he could. In my opinion it isn't a complete story and had I purchased this I would ask for a refund
