Oh my goodness, this was quite possibly my most favorite read of all time! The romance, intrigue and suspense were intense!! I almost didn't want to finish the book because I didn't think I could handle reading it! The chilling suspense was crazy. I loved the plot line and can't wait to read it through again, but I'm sure that my heart will be beating hard even knowing the whole story!

Midnight on the River Grey is second release written by Abigail Wilson. I enjoyed her first book, In the Shadow of Croft Towers and this does not disappoint. It tells the story of Rebecca Hunter, who has lost her family and has to live with a cousin. She, also, is determined to solve the death of her late brother. Will she find what she is looking for?
Midnight on the River Grey is a pretty good read. In addition to the romance, I liked the mystery and suspense surrounding this tale. There were, also, scenes that involves danger, action, and adventure. I personally did not find it predictable at all. Which I found to be refreshing.
I am giving Midnight on the River Grey four and a half stars. I look forward to the next book from Abigail Wilson in the near future. I recommend this one to readers who enjoy reading clean historical fiction, especially those from the Regency era.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

This is an interesting book with many twists and turns. The story is well-written and the characters are interesting as they walk through a very odd mystery. The setting and time play a big part of the story and the author did a great job of pulling me in to the book!

This book review is my own opinion. I was given an advanced reader copy through Netgalley and Thomas Nelson publishing. I do not give a synopsis of the book, I only give my own opinion.

I assumed that this was a Christian novel because it was published by Thomas Nelson. I assumed wrong. It was a clean novel, but in total God was mentioned, in passing, twice. The first time was one-third of the way into the book, the second was two thirds. So, if you're thinking it will have something to do with God or Christianity, you are wrong.

Now, as for my opinion of the book, it was very well written. The main characters quite well developed. It was a mystery type of story and it kept my interest throughout. As in most good mysteries, the tension was slowly built up until the end and a nice climax was reached. The story flowed well and the ending was good, it did not disappoint me.

There were a few areas that needed editing for spacing and such. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed before the book is published. The editing wasn't so bad that it detracted from my enjoyment at all.

I would recommend this book to my friends. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. One star being deducted as it was NOT a Christian fiction book. There were many missed opportunities in that area.

Midnight on the River Grey by Abigail Wilson is a historical Regency mystery filled with a creepy suspenseful setting and delightful characters. Wilson's novels reminded me a lot of Wurthering Heights by Charlotte Bronte. A mysterious hero who takes in a heroine and the entire house acts as a mysterious character in the novel. The writing is exceptional because Wilson writes the story in first person, so as soon as Rebecca sees something or discovers something to help her in discovering what happened to her brother, Jacob, we learn it for the first time too. The mystery was the train of thought for Rebecca during the entire novel. She didn't think about it once and then move onto wooing Lewis; Rebecca actually wanted to solve what happened to her brother. She even included Lewis, her guardian, in the discovery. The romance did seem a little odd at first, but after a while, it did seem to fit the characters well. Overall, Midnight on the River Grey by Abigail Wilson is definitely a suspenseful book for fans of classic literature like Wurthering Heights or Jane Eyre.

I received a complimentary copy of Midnight on the River Grey by Abigail Wilson from Thomas Nelson Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

This is a fabulous story. Really strong heroine. Rebecca has found herself alone in the world. She must move in with her guardia, Lewis. I just loved Lewis, such a nice guy...but so much more. Excellent secondary characters. Tense plot. Just read it.

We have a winner here. What a wonderful, exciting new book. I could not put it down and stayed up half the night reading it. Fans of regency historical romance will not be disappointed with Ms. Wilson's latest book. From her carefully crafted characters you will genuinely care for, to her incredible story telling. This is a book you will enjoy reading and will not soon forget. Rebecca Hunter, one of the main characters is a strong determined young women, who finds her self alone in the world except for an Aunt, who is not really a relative. They are being moved from her apartment in London to the mysterious country estate of her guardian Lewis Browning. Her brother had written to her about Mr. Browning, before his sudden death, and none of it was favorable. She is conflicted when she meets Mr. Browning for he is not what she expected. There are several other sub characters to this novel. There are characters you will love and some you will love to hate. This is a page-turner laced with romance. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I received a copy of #Midnight on the River Gray from #Netgalley and #Thomas Nelson Publishers. I want to thank them for this Kindle version.
This is a mystery and a romance. The setting is perfect: early 1800’s England and a mysterious castle.
The main character Rebecca is a conflicted damsel in distress, yet she has spunk. She is very upset because her brother has been murdered under mysterious circumstances, her parents are dead, and she and her Aunt have been forced to move from their home to a creepy castle. This castle is the property of Mr. Browning, who Rebecca believes is a villainous man, suspected of being complicit in her brother’s murder.
Rebecca isn’t the type to give up or give in. She is determined to discover the events leading to her brother’s death even though she has many obstacles to overcome. Who can she turn to? Can she trust the pushy neighbors? Is Mr. Browning really the Midnight Devil as the town people call him? These and many other dilemmas must be solved.
I like this book because the main character, Rebecca, is spontaneous. She gets into situations, but is clever enough to find a way out. The castle adds to the drama and of course there is a love interest to keep the reader turning the pages.

I so enjoyed the book - it was full of intrigue. The first book I've read by Ms. Wilson and hopefully not the last. She has done a splendid job of blending intrigue and historical romance.

2:02 am. This is the exact time I finished Abigail Wilson’s sophomore novel Midnight on the River Grey. And coming from a woman who prizes her sleep just as much as her dark chocolate, this is a huge credit to the author. But seriously, this novel! With its engaging plot, heart-sighing romance, and hard-to-guess mystery, I’m going to be in a story-fog for quite some time!

From the first page, the heroine, Rebecca, impressed me with her grit. Her brother Jacob’s mysterious death ignited a desire within her to discover the truth at all costs. Her drive and determination are admirable but what I adored most about her was her kind yet discerning heart. She’d experienced so much pain within her lifetime, but refused to be discouraged. On top of everything else, the man the entire town suspected to be bear the blame of her brother’s death is also the one she needed the most to help navigate the hazy situations that arisen during her stay in the country.

Mr. Browning is shrouded in secrets, and while his guarded nature makes me curious about his involvement in Jacob’s passing, I can’t help but like the man. He treats Rebecca with admiration and respect while giving her space to be herself on his large estate.

The romance in this story is organic and unforced which are crucial elements for me when reading novels. And while I LOVE this time period, I’m a huge fan of this author’s storytelling. Her voice is unique and fresh. I’m so glad Abigail Wilson stepped onto the regency era scene, and I can’t wait for her next story.

I always love a good tale of a broody, misunderstood rich guy falling in love with the protagonist female, add a little murder mystery in there, and it really hits the spot. Although this book had some great qualities--I loved her flow of language and plotline throughout--this book just fell flat for me for a couple of reasons.

There wasn't much character development of any one character. I felt like I didn't really know anyone. The romance between Rebecca and Lewis was fast. They got together too quickly. The book's description of him being a possible murderer and the "Night Devil" made me assume he was going to be kind of dark, mysterious, broody, and difficult. There was no description at all of him being a difficult person. Or even broody. He didn't give off an air of mystery to me because he was so nice and pleasant from page one. She never had to warm up to him despite his "prickly" personality. They just started kissing and I felt robbed of the build up. I know a lot of people it that way. I like the slow burn.

The plot was decent. There were a couple of twists I didn't see coming, and I enjoyed them. The climax kept me turning the page. Some characters that seemed big and important for half the book, disappear in the second half, I guess to create more suspicious people. I was disappointed in Mr. Browning's "secret" because it was kind of cheesy.

I did feel like the writer did a good job creating a decent gothic romance. It had the elements of a Daphne Du Maurier, Wilkie Collins, or Victoria Holt novel. I love the concept of this book. I only wish it were a bit more developed.

Thank you to @netgalley for sending me a copy of this ebook.
