This is another great book in the series. I can't believe I haven't gotten tired of the series yet, it's still as good as when it started. I really enjoy reading about the main character, she is fabulous. The story takes place within a 24 hour period, in one location -- a very old deserted insane asylum. It was interesting having most of it take place in 'real time' - in a day. I would have thought it wouldn't be as good, but it was great! It was non-stop suspense.

For Southern girl Verity Long, friendship means sitting down to stories and sweet tea on the front porch. For her gangster ghost housemate, it means dragging Verity out to a remote haunted asylum during a raging thunderstorm to do a favor for a long-dead mob boss.
As always, I enjoy the interaction between Verity and Frankie. This is a light, cozy mystery, easy reading. I hope to read more in this series.

Verity has fully embraced her new ghost investigator career and her significant other is by her side in a strong supporting role. Great story with engaging and interesting characters. Loved the historic asylum as a setting with the cast of ghosts suffering from various mental health issues which gave the story more depth. Verity is getting stronger every story and in this one she is the one having to protect everyone including Ellis. Can’t wait for the next in the series.

Verity is back (this is the 8th book in the series, but you don't have to have read the previous ones to enjoy this), and this time it's a little less cosy crime, and more horror as she investigates a closed asylum along with her gangster ghost friend Frankie and her off-duty police boyfriend, Ellis, complete with some of the original patients, though in ghost form.

I enjoyed the story, through I read a lot of this at night, and did find it quite scary! It's crime with a bit of bite, but only for about half of the book.

This is the 8th book in the Southern Ghost Hunter series, and I've reviewed number 7, Pecan Pies and Dead Guys.

The Mint Julep Murders was published on 25th April 2019, and is available to buy on Amazon and on Waterstones. I've found a link to where you can search for local bookshops, including independent!

Angie Fox also has another series of books called Accidental Demon Slayer, which has 11 books in the series! She also has a Facebook page and a reader group.

If you're interested in cosy crime books, then other than the previous book in this series, I'd suggest The Liar in the Library by Simon Brett 🌟🌟🌟.

I was given this book for free in return for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to Moose Island Books and Author Collective 20 (the publishers) for this book.

THE MINT JULEP MURDERS by Angie Fox is the eighth book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This is a cozy paranormal mystery series, but this novel was much darker than previous ones.

Our protagonist is Verity Long and she can see, converse, and interact with ghosts. Additionally she has a gangster ghost housemate (Frankie) and a boyfriend (Ellis) that is a police officer. Together they visit the Mint Julep Manor, a haunted asylum undergoing renovations. One of the resident ghosts supposedly is from Frankie’s past and possibly has information that would allow Frankie to regain his memory, discover who killed him, and therefore help him move on. However, events never go as planned. Add a storm, water over the bridge, lack of electricity, no cell phone coverage and murder and what do you get? A well-written novel with more depth and darkness than many books in this sub-genre.

The story is fast-paced and pulls the reader into the story. The characters are compelling and believable (within the context of a paranormal setting). Additionally the relationships between the characters do not come across as contrived. There are plenty of internal and external conflicts that are well defined for the main characters. There are many plot twists and red herrings. The scenes progressed in a realistic manner and the author did a great job of world-building that gives the reader a clear sense of the old asylum.

Underlying the fictional story there was an underlying theme of how different people in authority at old mental hospitals thought of and treated patients. Additionally, there was some information on the type of “treatments” used many years ago and even some bizarre reasons that patients were even admitted.

I recommend that those that are interested in this series read most of the books in order. This one can be read as a stand-alone but does refer back to occurrences in previous books. Additionally, the characters grow over the course of the series. If you like cozy paranormal mystery books, then this may be a series that you would enjoy.

Many thanks to Author Collective 20 – Moose Island Books and Angie Fox for a digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

The Mint Julep Murders is the 8th in the Southern Ghost Hunter series. I havent read any of the others in this series, but it was very easy to catch up on who's who, and on the basics of the preceding books.
I was very happy to read this book and enjoyed enormously. It features Verity, her policeman bf, a ghost gangster called Frankie, and a host of other ghostly and living characters.
Its an undemanding read, full of Deep South charm, and a kindness which shines through. I am a great fan of Charlain Harris and her fantasy novels set also set in the Deep South, this book is reminiscent of those, in a very good way I will look out for the others in the series and also at the authors other works.

I was so excited to catch up with the latest adventures of Verity, Frankie and Ellis that I stopped everything and read straight through to the end. What a story! A haunted asylum! How hair raising is that! Verity has her hands full and Frankie is in a snit. Loved it! Can't wait to read more. This author does write a good entertaining book. Can't wait to read the next one. That new bit at the end was a surely a story line for Frankie in the next book.

My third Angie Fox Southern Spirits mystery. I really enjoy these books - the "other world" aspects can be a bit confusing sometimes, particularly distinguishing between what is happening in the spirit world and what is happening in the normal world.

I've read the first two, then this one, so maybe if I'd read all the ones in the middle, it would make more sense.

I like them and will read more.

I've liked all the books in this series so far, and Mint Julip Murders is no exception. Every setting is different and fresh with this book being set in a run down insane asylum particularly good. A perfect book to read around Halloween. Frankie and the new ghosts introduced are a bit darker than the last books.

I got my copy from netgalley in exchange or my honest review.

This book was great. I must say that it scared me to the point I couldn't read it before bed. All good though. Just what you sometimes want. You know it is well written and you are sucked in when you can't put it down during the day and at night you know it will play tricks with your mind. I was very sad with how it ended. I don't know how
Verity is going to handle her new problems.

Unfortunately, I didn't like this book as much as I did the others in the series. I feel like not enough was explained at the beginning to know who certain people were. Obviously it's a series, but they can be read standalone - and I've only read two of her books. I felt like Sweet Tea and Southern Spirits #5 did a better job of catching me up from the first book.

It was still an entertaining and quick read, but I missed what I had loved about Books 1 and 5. Honestly, I think I just wanted more of the Verity-Frankie relationship and less minor characters. There were times where it was cheesy, but that was to be expected. I still plan on reading as much as this series as I can, just hoping I'll enjoy the other ones more!

The Mint Julep Murders is the eighth book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. I have read part of the earlier in series and always enjoy returning to this fun series. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity for review. My review opinions are my own.

Ghost hunter Verity, her boyfriend, Sheriff Wydell, and her resident ghost, Frankie the German, are visiting the Pikesville Sanatorium, a mental hospital built over a century ago and closed down. The hospital had been purchased to turn into a haunted mansion. Verity and her crew are checking to see if actual ghosts are in residence. One ghost has asked Frankie to come to discuss who killed him. He makes a demand for help to escape which Verity will not participate in and he becomes vengeful. When a storm causes all the electricity to go out and keeps everyone including ghosts hostage inside it is a cruel presence inside that is causing injuries and trouble.
Verity makes contact with those on the other side when the menacing reaches dangerous encounters.
This was spooky ! I enjoyed it and all the human and paranormal spirits . It is always enjoyable to return to this series and has a lot of action and a well crafted sleuth.

This is the eighth book in the Southern Ghost Hunter series by Angie Fox. This series has become one of my favourites.

This time around, Angie, Ellis and Frankie get stuck in a haunted mental hospital. This book was so much fun. The writing is of excellent quality, and the plot is really great - in spite of there being a relatively small number of suspects, I didn’t guess who it was right at the beginning.

This book has all the usual elements that this series possesses - the humour, the sass between Verity and Frankie, the fun murder mystery. Highly recommended to anyone who loves a joyful murder mystery with a supernatural twist.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Murder, haunted asylums and gangster ghosts was certainly a fun combination. I loved Verity, Frankie and Levi as well as several of the other characters in the book. It was a well paced plot with several twists and turns and the characters were well developed, even the ghostly ones.

This story sends Verity, Ellis and Frankie to a asylum and as soon as they get there things start to happen. Every time they turn around they find dead bodies. Now they have to find out who the killer is before they end up dead also. I thought this book was a little scary to me. You might wanna read with lights on. And not before bed. This book can be a stand alone one. Even though part of series.
