Locked inside a haunted Asylum with a powerful ghost. They discovered a dead body and they need to figure out who committed the murder or else remain locked in the Asylum or worst off end up dead. By far one of the scariest book in this series. The descriptions of the asylum and the ghost haunting make you feel like you are there with Verity Long. This series keeps getting better with each book. This is book 8 in the series but you can read as a stand alone.

I loved this book and highly recommend this cozy paranormal mystery. If you have never read Angie Fox you are missing this wonder author in your life. Do yourself a favor and add to your reading pile.

I was so lucky when I got a copy of the latest book by Angie Fox through NetGalley, since I am a huge fan, in exchange for a review, and I got started on it right away. I would almost have to say this has been my favorite of the series so far, not that the other Books were not a fun and entertaining read, but this one just seem to have it all. I find insane asylums scary at the best of times but a haunted one, what could be better, it was so jam packed with mystery, suspense and good and bad Ghosts I had a hard time putting it down. I love Verity and Ellis and I hope for a bright and steamy future for them, and of course Frankie as well. I would recommend that you read the books in order just so you see how far Verity has come, but you could enjoy this read without the knowledge as well. Very entertaining and I can't wait to see what will happen next.

This is usually a light fun series perhaps what some might describe as cosy mysteries. This time the author decided to get full on creepy and every cliche you can imagine about a haunted asylum came into play. Weird goings on ? Check. Unexplained murders ? Check. Teenagers trying their hand at ghost hunting ? Check and in the midst of all that Verity, her cop boyfriend Ellis and Frankie the ghost who is stuck haunting Verity. So ok Verify is there because one of the resident ghosts can possibly help Frankie to move on but right from the start it's pretty obvious it's never going to be easy.
I was reading this and couldn't help but think it felt very different to other books in the series and for this reader even though it seemed to end on a positive note it did seem to have a much darker tone. I loved that the ghosts became more than one dimensional and there's certainly closure involved in this adventure. What gave me pause however was the change in the relationship between Verity and Ellis. I'm not exactly sure just what will come next for the couple but fingers crossed there's a happy ending waiting.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

To start off, I have only read the first book in this series before reading this newest addition. I don't feel that you really have to read the other books prior to this to follow along with the story. Verity and her cop boyfriend, Ellis are helping out her gangster ghost buddy, Frankie find out who shot him so he can finally cross over and not be stuck to Verity's property any longer. I liked the story very much and the quirkiness of the characters. I do plan to back track and read the rest of the books and shorts that are apart of this series.

The Mint Julep Murders by Angie Fox is the 8th book in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery series. Verity Long is a ghost hunter, who usually gets help from her ghost, Frankie, the gangster ghost. This time Frankie needs Verity help by getting her to take him to a haunted asylum. Frankie need to talk to an insane mob boss ghost, so he can get free from Verity. Verity, her boyfriend Ellis, and Frankie head to the haunted asylum.   Not only is this book really funny, it has a great mystery, with exciting activity. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love humorous paranormal cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book. This book can be read as a stand alone but you might want to start with book one Southern Spirits, you won't be disappointed if you like fun, paranormal cozy mysteries. Definitely one of my favorite series.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

I get such a kick out of Verity and the ghostly situation she found herself in when she dumped Frankie's ashes in her rosebush. Her life was a mess and she took that mess and managed to make something from it. It's still not perfect, but she's found her niche and she's working it HARD.

AND THE SETTING ON THIS ONE. Have I ever mentioned I like me some haunted asylums? Those places are equal parts sad and creepy and yesssssssss to the ghosties. They all have stories to tell and some of them aren't all bad. It's just the ones who are, you know, homicidal both in the before and the after that are the issue.

Anywho. Verity. Ghosts. Ghost hunters. An owner looking to make a quick buck on the misfortunes of those trapped in the building. And Ellis. I have to say, I'm not sure where things are heading with those two. I adore them together (partially because dating the brother of an ex-fiance seems so bold, but also because they're pretty darn sweet together), but I can also see how Verity's propensity for getting into tough situations could wear on a relationship. To be fair, though, it's not like Ellis's chosen profession is entirely danger-free. So I guess they're going to have to figure things out.

Heck, Verity kind of worked things out with Mama Wydell, so she can handle this. I hope.

This book was entertaining and enjoyable.
I loved the style of writing, the cast of characters and the plot.
The mystery was good, no plot hole, and it kept me guessing till the end.
Even if it's the 8th installment in this series and I just read two there were no problems in understanding the plot and the characters.
I look forward to reading the next installment.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Crazy Spirits in a Closed Asylum
This book is 8th in the series. I have read about half of them. Although they are written to stand alone, it would be ideal to read the books in order. The series seems to be a bit more intense as it goes along. Parts of this story raised some serious goosebumps. It all works out in the end. I loved this book. It is not quite a cozy, but it isn't gross or deeply scary. It is a bit scarier than book 7 and a lot more scary than book 1. I am glad to have read it and plan on reading the whole series. There are some very funny moments and Frankie the gangster is a hoot. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

In this latest ghost hunting adventure for Verity and Frankie, they must brave an old haunted insane asylum if they want to get answers that might help Frankie. Not long after their arrival, they are up to their necks in murder and trapped inside with a bunch of insane ghosts and a killer.

The Mint Julep Murders is the eighth installment of the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. These fun blend of paranormal and cozy mysteries work well read/listened to in order as the reader gets to see how it all began with Verity and Frankie and Verity’s relationship with cop boyfriend, Ellis. But, that said, they are all standalone mysteries so could be gotten out of order in a pinch.

Most of the time, these get a little bit creepy with a nice ghostly, scary setting, but this one took the cake. A decrepit insane asylum where the traumatic old-style treatments took place and every room more chilling than the last with a bunch of ghosts and odd people was a perfect spooky read. I was more into the description of the setting and the situations for all those poor haunts than the murder mystery.

Verity was her usual Pollyanna naive self that gets on more by luck than anything else which gives her a bravado that had me rolling my eyes along with Frankie and feeling sympathetic to Ellis’ worry that she’s in over her head. The trouble is that she has a tender, giving heart and blithely ignores danger because she thinks she’s Mother Theresa to all those ghosts. She manages to fumble and bumble her way through each case including this one. When she ends up in a tight spot and the death is knocking, she admits that maybe Ellis and Frankie have a point, but then later, she’s back to offended that they ever doubt her. She’s a sweetheart and funny. I admire her for doing as well as she is after all that has happened to change her life and I’m not just referring to all the ghost adventures.

Verity can be a trip at times, but I have a pretty good time with each story in this series and this one was no exception. Frankie was his usual gangster wise-cracking self, reluctantly at her side, and comes through when it counts. Verity poo-poos Ellis’ worry, but she’s actually got it pretty good that she has a man who stalwartly believes in her ghost business and in the ghosts, who isn’t scared off, but only struggles because he cares about her safety. I sure hope she figures out how to compromise instead of the path she’s on insisting he do all the bending.

The murder mystery wasn’t hard for me to figure out even when the twists happened, but I enjoyed trailing along behind Verity as she worked to get to the truth.

All in all, I zipped through this one enjoying it thoroughly. It was the first cozy mystery series I liked and remains a firm favorite that I can gladly recommend to those who enjoy spooky-style cozy mysteries that focus on old historical settings around a small town in Tennessee.

I rec’d this book from Net Galley to read in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 8th installment of the Southern Ghost Hunters Series, and in this book we find Verity,Frankie, and Verity's cop boyfriend Ellis chasing down a new lead on how to set Frankie free. This takes us to The Mint Julep Manor, an old abandoned insane asylum, to see Bruno Scalieri. When they get there they meet Barbara, who is trying to turn the Manor into a haunted Halloween house, however this is upsetting to the resident ghosts living in the asylum. Soon Barbara is murdered and our 3 freinds finds themself not only investigating the murder, but the dominant ghost has put the whole asylum on magical lockdown, keeping everyone inside till the murderer is found.
This book has 2 storylines in this one, first with trying to find out what Scalieri knows about Frankie, and second finding out who murdered Barbara. I loved the way Mrs. Fox incorporates this style, with a paranormal ghost aspect, and add mystery, it leaves you clinging to every page to find out what happens next. The twists and turns to figure out the killer is sure to keep your interest throughout the book. Mrs. Fox has another strong entry to a well established series. I would highly recommend this book!! I hope there will be several more book in this series to come....
I recieved an Avanced Readers Copy from Net Gallery in exchange for an honest review.

Verity has one in-your-face ghostly housemate! Frankie is as gangster as it gets but he lacks a corporeal body to undertake the investigation into who killed him!

Mint Julep Manor looks like something from a movie but there is lots of skulduggery afoot.

Verity is a great heroine and really wants to help as many ghosts as she can, even those who may not have been the nicest people whilst they were alive! There were a few red herrings and twists to keep you interested.

I was not a fan of this one. It has more mystery than fantasy and I am more fond of fantasy than mystery. It was written ok. Character development was ok.

In this Verity Long novel, Verity & her ghost sidekick Frankie go to the Mint Julep Manor to confront a nemesis of Frankie's. Unfortunately, once Verity gets inside the former asylum she encounters much more than she bargained for. The building is haunted by the ghosts of not just the head nurse and doctor, but many of the inmates as well.
I love the Verity Long novels. Verity has lots of southern charm and wit, and Frankie is grumpy & difficult to get to do anything. This is a fun quick paranormal read.

The Mint Julep Murders is book 8 of the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. This cozy mystery has Verity Long helping out her eccentric friend Frankie. The book contains secrets, mayhem, ghost, and a haunted asylum. This is the perfect combination for a great read.

Amazing job by Angie Fox. Am going to purchase books 1-7, can’t wait.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good mystery.

Verity Long is on a mission to help the ghost permanently attached to her home find his own peace. This quest takes her and Ellis, her boyfriend, to a marketed haunted house. Nothing ever goes as planned for Verity. There’s murder, mystery, humor and adventure. I love this series and the character of Verity. I’ve read the series but this could be read as a standalone. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Mint Julep Murders is the eighth book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This fast-paced book is well plotted with an intriguing mystery that had me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing until the reveal. The story flows smoothly, and the characters are well developed. This book can be read as a standalone because the author has done an excellent job describing and explaining the main characters, their relationships, and backgrounds. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading paranormal cozy mysteries.

Verity Long is able to see and communicate with ghosts, but only with the help of Frankie, the ghost of a 1920s gangster who she managed to ground to her property in Sugarland, Tennessee when she dumped his ashes which she thought was dirt in the yard. Frankie is unable to leave the property unless Verity has his urn with her. Verity is a caring person who wants to help everyone, living or dead. She is productively using her gift as a ghost hunter and is dating Ellis Wydell, the Deputy Sheriff and her ex-fiancé’s brother. Ellis is one of the few people who believe in her abilities and has always been supportive of her helping the ghosts who need her but concerned for her safety. Verity, Ellis, and Frankie are visiting the abandoned Pikesville Sanitarium (nicknamed Mint Julep Manor), a mental hospital, built in the early 1900s and shut down in the 1950s to meet with Bruno Scalieri, a deceased mob boss and a criminally insane killer who was with Frankie on the night he’d been killed. Bruno claims to have seen the man who shot Frankie, and in exchange for their help, says he’ll give them information that could possibly set Frankie free. Shortly after they arrive, Barbara Slater, the new owner is murdered, and the dominant ghost puts the facility in lockdown, which trapping everyone, living and dead, inside. Verity has to figure out who the killer is, convince the dominant ghost to set them free, and negotiate with Bruno because his original request isn’t something she’s willing to do.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Author Collective 20/Moose Island Books for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a series and reads well as a stand alone. I do have questions, did she always see ghosts? How does she make a living? This was a bit darker, maybe because of the setting. But intense!! Wow kept me guessing and to be honest a bit freaked! Overall a good read. Didn't like that no real closure on her relationship. Next book! I give this a 4. I think most cozy mystery readers would enjoy.
