Very interesting read and one I would recommend. Well written characters and a plot that was intriguing. An author I would definitely read more from.

DNF at 46%. This story introduced a lot of interesting ideas and had a lot of potential. The setting and at least some of the novel's background situation were basically fantasy colonial America, and the late husband of the protagonist, Kera, was a pretty obvious reference to Alexander Hamilton, which could have been interesting.

Unfortunately, various things just did not work for me, from the writing style, to the pacing, to the characterization and chemistry between the two mains. The writing style was very flowery and melodramatic in an attempt (I think) to evoke the 1700s social and emotional atmosphere, but it ended up being unreadable for me, and I found myself skimming large chunks of text, hoping that the dialogue would move the plot along. I held in until I started to get a sense of what the chemistry between Kera and Aurora (the late husband's mistress), but it just wasn't working for me, as the characterization of both women felt inconsistent.

All in all, I would have liked to see a tighter plot with less backstory exposition and more worldbuilding.
