They are a cute couple but overall I just wasn’t a super big fan of the book. I can’t really explain why...there was nothing particularly wrong with it. The illustrations were great, which is sort of key in a “graphic” novel, so it gets 4 stars in my book. Just because something isn’t my taste doesn’t mean it doesn’t hit all the targets it should or that it’s not quality. Just more suited for someone else.

A comic about boyfriend and girlfriend pastries, Croquette & Empanada, and their daily relationship as they live together, get pets, go on vacation, etc.

This seems aimed at the new adult/adult crowd who will get the humor in the relationship situations brought up. It’s not laugh out loud funny, but several of the strips were entertaining. I don’t think I’ll buy this for our library since middle graders and teens aren’t the target audience and likely won’t get most of the humor.

Notes on content: One mild swear word. The boyfriend and girlfriend live together and are depicted in bed together frequently, but nothing more than a kiss. One comic in which a character drinks so much she forgets parts of the evening the next day.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I didn’t dislike this book, but it didn’t really grab me like a lot of other comic style books have.
It’s cute, and easy to follow, but I don’t think I would actively suggest it to other people.

Croquette and Empanada is a graphic novel about two people in a relationship. They’re represented as an Empanada and Croquette who completely fit in a world of humans, with a few other food characters sprinkled in. It’s broken down into a bunch of short comics that explore everything from the hardships of sharing a bed (stolen covers, pushing the other person off the bed, etc.) to going on a trip abroad. As with most graphic novels of this style, it’s a very fast read, easily sped through in around an hour or less.

I found the story to be very adorable, and I think that people in a relationship would really enjoy reading this together, as many parts are very relatable. I just got out of a year-long relationship, and while reading I frequently wanted to show relatable parts of it to him. 😦 Nevertheless, I kept finding myself with a smile on my face, because I could relate so much with the cute, whimsical Empanada.

The art style is very easy to look at with calm, muted colors and simple scenes that aren’t cluttered. The characters are very cute and you can read the emotion on their faces in every panel, which adds to the story. Their expressions are almost comical at times.

All in all, I enjoyed reading Croquette and Empanada. I’ll give it 4/5 stars because while I found it to be very amusing and adorable, I’m not sure if it will stick with me. The majority of the comics reminded me of the type of content you quickly read on a social media site, share with a friend, and then move on with your day. That’s how reading this felt. I felt warm and fuzzy while reading it, but I’m not sure how much I’ll remember in a day or so.

This is an adorable little comic book about Croquette and Empanada, a couple just going though life and having adventures. I really liked that there were a bunch of different stories in this collection but that they still had an overarching story line that they kept to. Some of the stories were just a page long and then some were up to a few pages long. I liked the variety of the lengths of all the different stories. I also really liked the artwork and the color palette in this graphic novel. I would recommend to pretty much anyone. The stories could be enjoyed by any age group with no problems I think.

So adorable. I'm a big fan of animated food in almost any context, and this story was really sweet and made me smile.

First of all, I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was drawn to this comic because the author is Spanish and really want to read more books by Spanish authors. I would like to reread this in Spanish.

This comic is about the relationship of Croquette and Empanada and all the little things that you can love or annoy you about living together and being a couple.

I quite enjoyed this collection but I still don't really understand why Croquette and Empanada are portrayed that way while the rest of the world is normal and populated with humans. That said, I really liked the art style, it is cute and quirky, exactly what I love in these types of comics.

Some comics were really funny, relatable and so, so cute! Spain is my favourite country and I love eating tapas (especially patatas bravas and croquetas) when I'm there. I do wish there were more Spanish influences in the story but I guess this makes it more universal.

I recommend this book to everyone who want to read a fun, short collection of comics about little moments in a relationship. 3 stars! Will read more by Ana Oncina in the future!

I received an electronic ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley.
The artwork is terrific. Oncina fully develops her two characters - Croquette and Empanada. They are in a relationship and the book takes readers through their lives. Definitely light humor throughout.
Others will fully enjoy the humor but it's just not my style book. I'm glad I read it to branch out and try a different style graphic novel.

I really enjoyed reading Croquette & Empanada. The graphic novel is a collection of different stories regarding daily life of a couple. Some stories are so true that I could really resemble my daily life with my boyfriend. Croquette & Empanada is a light and funny graphic novel. Perfect to relax and laugh about daily life's situations. I loved the illustrations and the color chosen by the author. An adorable graphic novel to read with your better half.

So this is the second graphic novel from Net Galley I've reviewed and I'm starting to think I should make it a point to only read (and I REALLY hate to say this because it sounds terrible) American authors when it comes to graphic novels. It's not that I'm racist (and, yes, I know that sounds racist), but I'm starting to think I clearly do not get other cultures' sense of humor. I'm up to page 47 of Croquette & Empanada, which I selected due to its food-themed characters, and I just smiled for the first time! Yes, it was the drooling Croquette, and, yes, I drool like an English Bulldog when I sleep though I find that neither here nor there when it comes to my review of this graphic novel.

And it is entirely possible that it is something I'm doing wrong, but if the format I'm reading this in is required for and works the same on numerous Net Galley books, I WILL NOT BE READING ANY OF THOSE BECAUSE IT IS ANNOYING AF to read things going one page at a time having to type the entire page number every time. Yes, I am that impatient.

Okay, so this book's characters did grow on me a little and I do find the illustrations very endearing. I will still not be seeking out the next three books in the series. I do wish Ana and Alex all the best however and best wishes for their doughy future!!

I loved the illustration and the characters. The personalities had a lot to play with, and I wasn't disappointed.
The comics were cutesy and adorable, and I had a nice time flipping through it, But I am not sure it made any 'impact' on me. I have read similar comics from Debbie Tung and Sarah Anderson, and they leave me with a theme. This one, I can't quite put a finger on the reason, but at best it only made me chuckle. I was smiling maybe, chuckling at some bits, but not really laughing out loud. What I like about comics sometimes is that you never know what the build up is going to lead to. And I love that element of surprise. It is a much-needed punch. That was missing here. I loved how realistic all the comics were: the relationship was very well portrayed, but the ideas were predictable for me, and the story didn't flow smoothly. Overall i had fun reading it, but I may not count it as one of the best ones I ever read.

First, I want to thank Netgalley for giving me the opportunity of reading the graphic novel "Croquete and Empanada"

It is a graphic novel created by the Spanish author Ana Oncina. “Croquete and Empanada” are a fun couple who show us different kinds of situations, such as: living together as a couple, traveling, shopping with your significant other, etc.

The main themes of the novel are: love, mutual support and empathy. It is an adorable novel, accompanied by humor. Very easy and fun to read, it took me less than an hour to finished it. It's the first time I read a comic by this author and I found it funny and saw myself in some of the strips; I hope to read the following comics of "Croquette and Empanada".

Two and a half stars.

A lot of old hats are on these pages – cats and dogs are annoying; people are loveable until it comes to sharing a duvet; the person in a couple who suggests the film for movie night is the first to fall asleep. You get the drift – it's amiable but instantly forgettable stuff about modern relationships, and says nothing you haven't seen before.

The art is very cute and the short stories are very relatable and wholesome.

Wasn't 5 stars because it did drag a bit and was a bit too short in my opinion.

This comic was funny, sweet, and relatable. I really liked the cute artwork and the stories are ones that every compatible couple can relate to. He may be a Croquette, and she an Empanada, he likes dogs, and she likes cats, but together they make a sweet and loving couple who find themselves in endearing and humorous situations. I mean, who hasn’t insisted to watch a movie that the other doesn’t want to, only to fall asleep immediately after it starts? Who hasn’t signed up for the gym, been motivated for about ten seconds, and then promptly lose interest?

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast, fun, and adorable read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the author for providing me with a free ARC!

Cute, cute, sweet, cute! I really liked the art style, colors and little stories. I didn't know the author and now I will stalk her on social media, thanks NetGalley! <3

Everything about this graphic novel was adorable! The art style, cute little story-lines, and the way the couple was depicted brought nothing but a smile to my face. My husband and I read this together and constantly gave each other all-knowing looks because it was just so relatable.

As much as I adored this collection of work, it was SO short and I just wanted more! Some of the comic titles didn't make much sense to me and a few little stories had abrupt endings. I'm not sure if this was a result to translation or if I just didn't get it?

Either way, this was a super cute book that promises to cheer you up no matter how often you flip through it.

Very adorable comic! I love that the characters are food but still relatable. Will appeal to young adults and older teens.

This is a story about the everyday life of a couple who just happen to both be cute foods. It was pretty fun but I did find that for such an unusual couple, they did live up to a lot of gender stereotypes.

What a fun comic book! I loved reading Croquette & Empanada by Ana Oncina and now I will follow them on the internet. Some of my favourite little stories in the collection include the trip to Berlin, what day is it? Your Birthday!, and of coarse, He repeats himself like garlic! Thanks #netgalleyfor letting me read this, #croquetteEmpanada, an adorable comic!
