Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Rating: 3 stars

Cold Case Secrets was the fourth and final book in the True North heroes’ series by Maggie K Black and even though it's a stand-alone and I read the previous books in the series I was a little lost and confused about what was going on. But it was still a fairly fast-paced suspense book though to me the romance seemed a little rushed.

Cold Case Secrets is the fourth book in Maggie K. Black's True North Heroes Series. I haven't read any of the previous books and, while I could tell there were events that I missed out on, I wasn't confused by the storyline or characters…it was easy to remember who was whom. ;)

The mystery was good and not easy to guess. The cold case was interesting and also sad. I felt for the hero and his family for what they went through.

The romance was sweet. I liked how neither Jacob nor Grace would have expected to fall for one another, so it was kind of an unexpected romance that both were fighting.

All in all, Cold Case Secrets was very good and I recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.

In Maggie K Black's Cold Case Secrets, the 4th installment in the True North Heroes romantic suspense series, this novel would have you hooked on the first page. For RCMP Detective Jacob Henry, all he wanted to do is to find the truth about his sister's murder, a cold case that remained unsolved for over a decade. For the Ontario regiment, he's on the manhunt for three ruthless convicts who escaped from prison until he ran into Grace Finch, a hostage who needed his help. From the instant they met, there was something about her and what she was hiding from him. On the search to find his late sister's Faith's locket in the cabin, he followed Grace, an investigative reporter, straight there. But it left him with more questions than answers. more than never. For Grace, she had feelings for Jacob and had been rebuffed from him when she wanted to ask him out for coffee. But she kept a secret from him: Hal Turner is her biological father who escaped from prison and wanted to speak to her. Together, they learned to trust one each other and to find out the truth which led them onto a path of danger and a trail of corruption to someone closest to Jacob with a shocking ending on whodunit and why.

This is definitely a 5 star! Suspense books like this are so enjoyable and very hard to put down!
I loved being taken to Canada. In fact when I went to Michigan we were right on the border! But we couldn't cross over. I was there as a kid though. Maybe next year. This book has allowed me to visit Canada.
This was an excellent read that kept reading the whole afternoon until I finished it! I was sad when it was over.
I'm glad that the author has put faith in this story. The characters were awesome and so was the plot. Very well done!!
My thanks to Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book! NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own.

This is book four in the True North Heroes series. It is the first in this series that I have read and I had no issues following along, however I feel I missed some history of the Henry family and probably some good books as well.

This book is full of suspense, mystery, trust, romance and more.

Jacob Henry is the handsome cop who must rescue the beautiful Grace Finch. Both must learn to trust and rely on each other for survival. There are many twist and turns in this novel.

What an exciting story! The suspense starts on the first page and never stops until the end of the book. Jacob and Grace make a terrific couple. Both have had heartache and tragedy in their lives, and trust does not come easily to either one of them. They are thrown together in a desperate situation and must work together to survive and be rescued. Their twenty four hours together trying to escape the danger that surrounds them will change their lives forever. It takes all their ingenuity and courage to face the tragedies in their pasts and move towards the future. I had not read the other books in this series, but I was easily able to enter into Jack and Grace’s story. This is a clean Christian mystery/suspense book with a thread of faith. I enjoyed this book and liked this author’s writing style.

Mountie Jacob Henry doesn't like talking to the press, he is determined to sole his sister's murder and bring her killer to justice. While out on a helicopter search for escaped convicts he rescues Grace Finch, but with a storm coming they find themselves stranded on the ground until the weather blows through.

Reporter Grace Finch, is attempting to meet up with her father who has been blackmailing her, claiming that he has evidence that will clear his name. When Jacob comes to her aid, they must work together for their survival in the storm and to stay out of the way of the escaped convicts on the loose.

Non-stop action, fraught with tension and a complex plot. Jacob Henry is very good at his job, dedicated, and determined. He doesn't always like to depend on others, and sometimes has a hard time admitting that he needs help. Jacob has held to his faith, through his family's personal tragedy, and he tries to live his beliefs as best he can.

Grace is a talent reporter, she values the truth. She is very dedicated to her job, and likes to prove people wrong through her determination. Grace struggles in her relationship with church because of her past and cruel, thoughtless words said to her as a child.

Overall, and action-packed read, with a complex plot, and compelling characters that you can cheer for the whole way through. Good interaction, and strong faith. I loved how this book brings together two people who might never have taken the time to get to know each other, but for this situation. A thrilling read from beginning to end, definitely recommend!

Grace is a reporter who has a secret, her father is a criminal and he might have some proof that he was framed for a crime he didn't commit. If Grace can gather the information at a location he set and let the world in on the truth then it could help him. Meanwhile Jacob is in the process of solving his sisters murder and trying to find some escape convicts when he finds Grace. Now they both needs to figure out how to get out of the wood when there convicts on the loose.

I loved every moment reading this book. It was so easy to just fall into and get hooked till the very end. I loved that there was so much going on, questions and secrets loomed though out the book and it was a case that needed to be solved - if they can survive it. Then there was the attraction between Grace and Jacob but with Graces secrets getting close could be hard unless she lets him in on the secret and even then it could tear them apart. One thing I did appreciate that even thought they had that attraction they didn't immediately try to jump each others bones, this book is clean. This book is also heavy with the faith if you like that sorta thing. There is so much to enjoy about this book and Id recommend any reader to check this book out if you love a good mystery suspense book.

I loved how the author made me want to visit Canada and spend with with the characters! Very realistic personalities made it as if these characters are the readers' close friends, and I enjoyed seeing Jacob's family, as they added a nice personalty touch. I did guess the 'mystery' part well before the reveal, but that tends to be pretty common for me, and I enjoyed the story despite that.

Cold Case Secrets by Maggie Black was a great read. I enjoyed the mystery and the romance. Mountie Jacob was a great hero. I had not read the other books in the series so I didn’t know his brothers but they all make an appearance in this book.
Jacob is trying to find some escaped convicts and the killer of his 14 year old sister, which has been a cold case.
Grace is a journalist and admittedly I don’t typically like them but I really liked Grace. The author created great scenes between Grace and Jacob.
And the wedding scene was hilarious. I will be reading more books by Maggie.

Sexual content – kissing and hugging
Violence – someone is trying to kill them, and someone killed Jacob’s 14 year old sister

I love Canada and the author made me want to go back to visit. Jacob is a Mountie and he still feels responsible for finding who murdered his little sister many years ago. He has tried to avoid a certain reporter both because she is smart and because she is attractive.
Grace's life is complicated. She is a great reporter but just can't give Jacob to give her the time of day. The way they are thrown together was humorous and terrifying. I figured out the 'who done it' part well before the end. Still, I enjoyed the story and how it unfolded. Jacob's family made me chuckle a few times and his stubbornness made me roll my eyes. Both the main characters were very well written and could very well be real people.
Overall, it was a 3/5 for me.

This was a great fast-paced book! From the beginning you get sucked into the action/adventure and it really never stops. I really felt pulled in.

I also really liked the characters. I like books where characters have to work together and rely on each other.

This was a typical Love Inspired Suspense, but was very well written and engaging.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

"Cold Case Secrets" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It is the 4th in a series, but it works as a stand-alone. The hero feels guilt over not being there to stop is little sister's (unsolved) murder when they were children, so he chose a job involving rescuing people. The heroine is a smart and capable journalist who's determined to be the opposite of her secret, biological father--a criminal and murderer. Only he's threatening to ruin her career by exposing their relationship, so she's traveled deep into the wilderness to retrieve evidence that he says is there and will prove his innocence. But three killers just made a prison break and are armed and roaming free in that same area.

The hero seemed determined to force the heroine into the damsel in distress role by removing her means of defending herself. I'm not convinced that he wouldn't have immediately allowed a man trained to use firearms to keep the extra gun given the situation. I understand he's a strict rule follower and didn't quite trust her, but the convicts were armed and trying to kill her. Still, she refused be a helpless victim and rescued him as much as he rescued her. It took him a while, but he started trusting her and treating her more like a competent partner even as he worked to protect her.

Suspense was created by the continuous physical danger from the wilderness and the killers. I enjoyed the characters and cared about what happened to them. The romance developed as they got to know each other. They became better people and found healing through what they went through together. The hero freely prayed to God for help and protection, and the heroine started doing so after having been angry at God for years. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense novel.
