I received a free copy of this book from #netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is a collection of stories written by teens who have traveled from their home countries, seeking assylum in the United States. I really wanted to like this book, however, the stories didn't connect with me.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux for the advance copy of The Other Side by Juan Pablo Villalobos in exchange for an honest review. This book is very timely. It is important to understand the circumstances that would cause these migrant children and teens to risk their lives to try to enter the United States. While reading the book, I could picture some of the events these children describe (the freezer, the metal looking blanket) in my mind because I have seen them on the news. The book was quick to read and easy to understand. Terms were explained in the back of the book. It is perfect for teens. I wish the stories had been a bit longer.

The Other Side by Juan Pablo Villalobos is an important book. The stories of the experiences of young people as they are detained are heartbreaking. This is so relevant to current situations reported in the news. Readers will find it hard to put down as they learn about the conditions and overall impact of the experiences with each story. Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I don’t see this on Goodreads in English, nor am I able to order it from my usual vendor, so I am doing to hold off from reading it for now.
