I really wanted to like this book. The synopsis held so much promise, but the book failed to deliver as much as I hoped for from it. I enjoyed it well enough, but with a few tweaks it could have been an even more enjoyable read.

Perfect read. Well written with the perfect amount of character development.

"A Highlander Walks into a Bar" certainly sounded far better than it actually was. I hated the female lead, she came across as a rather immature character. The male lead was far more interesting but it wasn't enough to keep me engaged.

A fun light read with well done characters and an interesting story line. Bringing little bit of Scotland to the southern states.

This sounded like a fun read, but it really didn't work for me. I like romance, but this was a little too much like Harlequin for me.

What a story, loved it!

A Highlander Walks into a Bar has all of the ingredients to make this a must-read romance novel.

Synopsis:
Isabel Buchanan is fiery, funny, and never at a loss for words. But she is struck speechless when her mother returns from a trip to Scotland with a six-foot-tall, very handsome souvenir. Izzy’s mother is so infatuated by the fellow that Izzy has to plan their annual Highland Games all by herself. Well, not completely by herself. The Highlander’s strapping young nephew has come looking for his uncle…

Alasdair Blackmoor has never seen a place as friendly as this small Georgia town—or a girl as brilliant and beguiling as Izzy. Instead of saving his uncle, who seems to be having a lovely time, Alasdair decides he’d rather help Izzy with the Highland Games. Show her how to dance like a Highlander. Drink like a Highlander. And maybe, just maybe, fall in love with a Highlander. But when the games are over, where do they go from here?

A Highlander Walks Into A Bar, by Laura Trentham is such a fun, lighthearted read. The story is set in the fictional town of Highland, Georgia. The first in a series. Looking forward to future stories in this series.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

A romance that seamlessly blends the two different cultures of Scotland and the South together. Isabel and Alastair are what the other needed. the author did a wonderful job of making you laugh through the entire story.

I loved the blurb and cover of this book, made me want to read it. However once I started I didn't find Isabel so fiery but more along the lines of immature. After the first few chapters I started skimming and looking for the bright parts of this book. Pretty much just lusted after Alasdair the whole book. A stronger female lead with less whining and complaining about everything would have made this book so much better. The fusion of Scotland and the South was fun and interesting, one of the highlights of this book.

This book gave me very nostalgic feelings, and it was wonderful. As someone who lived in a small town and now is learning how to have a corporate job in a big city, I really connected with Claire. She's only ever known high society, and she feels like it isn't meant for her. When she shows up in Highland, Claire finds more than she ever expected. There's Ms. Meadows who is a "frail" woman that has lived alone for many years after her husband passed. Anna and Iain who seem like the perfect and friendly couple. Then there's Holt. Holt is one of a kind and a beautiful soul. While Claire is down on her luck, she finds her place with these wonderful people. Unfortunately it leaves her with a tough decision to make regarding her own family.

Claire is very relatable. She is anxious and independent. She is scared to let people too close because she has no idea what her future holds. She only signed up to take care of Ms. Meadows because she needed a place to stay and Highland looked as good a place as any. As the holidays approach however, this town becomes so much more! By the time the festivities started, I was fully invested in Claire's life and ready for Christmas. This is a sweet book that will immediately put you in the mood for the holidays! I really enjoyed it.

Cute story. Izzy has always helped with the highland games on her parents property. This year will come with some major changes for both her and her mom. Her mom arrives back from a trip to Scotland with a older male in tow. Izzy is shocked that her mom brought home someone without telling her first. Her mom is in love with her own Scotsman. Izzy just hopes the man isn't after their property. Little do they know the man is the ninth earl of Caridem Castle in Scotland.

Soon Alasdair (Gareth's nephew) comes looking for his uncle...a fraud that the American is after their castle. What Alasdair finds is his uncle finally find happiness with a woman for the first time. He also learns that his uncle has hidden his identity from Rose... to not intimidate her with his title.. or wealth.

What Alasdair finds is true happiness with Izzy...she makes him smile and really take a fresh look at his own life. What he finds is that he had always tried to live up to his mother's expectations.. and never really living for himself.

In the end both the Scotsman and the Americans find happiness.

This is the type of book that is exactly what it sounds like: I fun contemporary romantic comedy. Great for a day when you want to escape into something that is so light and fun!

3.5 stars

This was a light, fun read. Isabel was very endearing. I loved how she just blurted whatever was on her mind :) However, there were times that she came off as immature and that bothered me a bit. Alasdair was a wonderful balance to Izzy.

I went back and forth between reading and listening so I need to say something about the audio. It was good! The accents were spot on and I really enjoyed it!

An entertaining read that very much makes me want to attend some local Highland games celebrations and add Scotland to my vacation wish list!

Delightful, light, and perfect summer read.

When Isabel Buchannan's mother returns from a two-week vacation back to Highland, Georgia, with a Scotsman of her own, and his nephew follows a few days later attempting to return his uncle to Scotland, things take an interesting turn. Both men are smitten with the Buchannan's. Both volunteer to help the Highland Games (in Georgia) to be more authentic. However, both men are lying who they are, the Earl and Next Earl. Feelings and kilts rise, and everything rides on the games and love.

I got an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's for an honest review.

I'm so disappointed! I love romance, and I love Scotland. I was hoping this would be a cheesy fun read I could read right before my trip to Edinburgh. But it honestly read as someone who just watched Outlander and wanted to quickly write a story for fans of Jamie.

Not my favorite, and it was extremely hard to finish!

This was an excellent Highlander romance story that kept me entertained from start to finish. The characters were interesting and likable and the story was well-written. It was a sweet and funny romance story that I highly recommend.

I tried several times, but I just could not get into this story. I'm not sure if it was the writing or the characters.
