I received a free copy from Netgalley for an honest review.

So, I have a few things I didn’t expect to have on this book. I’m Scottish by ancestry, raised partly in the south, and my father also organizes the Highland games for our area. So, I empathized a LOT with Isabel for the stress level and speech. The romance was fun, the wordings weren’t too overdone, trying to use gaelic or scots where it didn’t make sense, and they read like the people they were meant to be. This story was a fun comedy of errors, and I’m really glad I got my HEA. I’m already looking forward to the next in this series, and hope it’s here soon!! Totally worth it.

Ok- so this started a bit slow, but picked up fast and I ended up really loving it. The author had great bantering dialogue which I always appreciate. Alasdair was a hot hero and I loved Isabel. I hope this series continues! Thank you to netgalley for the ARC!

I have loved every book by Trentham that I have read to date so I may have fallen victim to my own overly high expectations. This is a light-hearted story with a charming setting but I found myself bored with the lack of depth and think it will ultimately be forgettable.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a cute story. I love Scottish romances, and this one was enjoyable. There was humor, drama, and insight. I recommend this one!

Fun, smart romance. It was great True Scottish meets Scottish American. Fiesta mom and daughter fall for uncle and nephew. I don't know if it's real, but I want to go to Highland games now in Georgia.

If you are searching for a beachy, summery romantic comedy, look no further! A HIGHLANDER WALKS INTO A BAR is the charming story you need. Highland, Georgia is a small town with Southern flair that celebrates Scottland with their annual Highland Games that draws in a lot of tourism. Izzy (Isabel) and her mother plan it each year on their large property and use the proceeds to help pay their property taxes.

This year, Izzy's mother, Rose, is distracted by the Scottish man she had met on vacation and who has come to visit her, Gareth. When another Scott shows up and the two are friends, Izzy finds herself very attracted to him. Alasdair is the nephew of Gareth, who is pretending to be the caretaker of Cairndow instead of the titled owner- just because he wants to be liked for who he is. Alasdair will inherit Cairndow when Gareth dies.

At his mother's urging, Alasdair has come to see who Gareth is so interested in and whether she might be having a child with Gareth who could inherit instead. Concerned for his uncle, Alasdair looks into the family and spends some time with Izzy- who it turns out might just be exactly the woman he has been searching for himself. With misunderstandings, charming small-town atmosphere, and a lot of romance, this is a delightful summer read.

I was completely charmed by Izzy and Alasdair- as well as by the older couple of Rose and Gareth. The romance here is top-notch. There are also some adorable scenes of dancing lessons, getting locked in a closet, and picnics. All-around, this book was a delight! I highly recommend for lovers of romantic comedies- this book will not disappoint!

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

“A Highlander Walks Into A Bar” is a rollicking rom-com with a Scottish flair that’s set in Georgia. As I’m a voracious reader who lives in Georgia and loves all things Scottish, this title was a no-brainer for me. In the first book in author Laura Trentham’s new series we’re introduced to mother and daughter Rose and Isabel Buchanan who put on the annual Scottish games festival in their hometown of Highland, Georgia. On a recent trip to Scotland Rose is captivated enough by six foot tall Gareth to bring him home as a souvenir. But Gareth’s nephew Alasdair Blackmoor follows to satisfy himself as to Rose’s motives. Only he isn’t prepared for Isabel’s refreshingly quirky habit of thinking out loud and saying whatever pops into her head. When Alasdair agrees to stay a couple of weeks and help Izzy with the festival, all manner of complications arise, one of which is the magnetic attraction between them. But to what purpose when his stay in Highland is destined to be short-lived. Or is it?

Refreshingly heartwarming and sometimes laugh out loud funny, the characters are authentic and engaging. The plot is well developed with a few twists that create just enough tension and conflict to make this rom-com interesting. The pacing kept me flipping pages so that I finished it in one sitting. A delightfully entertaining read. Be sure to add it to your TBR list and mark your calendar for the release date, July 30, 2019.

My sincere thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I completely enjoyed reading "A Highlander Walks into a Bar"! It was a fun read with some twists and turns, but very engaging until the last. The characters were well written, both relate-able and engaging. They each had their own personal journey and challenges they must overcome - and they do. The main characters are supported by the secondary character, which is the town of Highland, GA itself. Within the town are a number of interesting folks that, I'm sure, will be good fodder for future books. I would definitely read, in fact look forward to reading, future books in the Highland series. Read it, you'll enjoy it too!

You can never go wrong with a book that includes a sexy highlander. This was a laugh out loud, sexy romance.

A contemporary romance, rife with humor, sweetly romantic scenes and a bit of deceit. The two hotly sexy Scots are not completely honest with Rosie, the mom, and Isobel Buchanan. Their motives are justified, but can the ladies forgive the perceived deception.
Rosie brings Gareth home with her from a working vacation, research for their yearly festival, much to Izzie's dismay and he stays....in Rosie's bedroom.
Alasdair follows at the insistence of his mother, to see if Gareth's been taken advantage of.
Both Scots are head over heels and the romance of both the Buchanan women is an engaging tale. The men get in and out of trouble with their ladies and the story is a fun way to spend a weekend. the scenes are set beautifully and the characters are fleshed out so that their reasons are clear.
There's a hint at the end of the next book and I definitely look forward to it.
I requested and received a Netgalley ARC to peruse and recommend it highly.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC. I wasn’t a big fan, so I’d prefer not to leave a negative review.

A Highlander Walks into a Bar by Laura Trentham is a sweet love story or two. The characters are fun, interact well and have believable reactions. The little town of Highland is so sweet but not in a totally predictable way. Really enjoyed the story and the way the different generations came into the story and didn’t just become predictable caricatures.

Isabel Buchanan is fiery, funny, and never at a loss for words. But she is struck speechless when her mother returns from a trip to Scotland with a six-foot-tall, very handsome souvenir.
Alasdair Blackmoor has never seen a place as friendly as this small Georgia town—or a girl as brilliant and beguiling as Izzy. Instead of saving his uncle, who seems to be having a lovely time, Alasdair decides he’d rather help Izzy with the Highland Games.
The timeless romance, soaring passion—and gorgeous men—of Scotland comes to modern-day America. And the rules of love will never be the same.
I could not put this book down once I started reading. It is a laugh a minute and although not written in my preferred genre I truly love this book.
The characters are well drawn and the storyline is believable. The location although fictional makes you feel right at home.
This is the best book I have read by this author and makes me yearn for more of Highland, Ga.
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline, plot and characterization.
I am ready for the next installment in this new series.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Thoroughly fun romance balancing Scottish hotties with smart Southern women. I loved the town of Highland the author created. It's a great contrast to Scottish cold and sere country.

The characters were fun, with action spiced up with a nasty boss and his smarmy buddy. I especially liked the treatment of the heroine's would-be lover. I also thoroughly enjoyed the elders getting their romance as well as the younger generation.

Great summer read!

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley.

Super cute, fun, quick read. I appreciated that the story moved along quickly. Somewhat predictable...however, there were several scenes where I thought, "Oh this is gonna be just like every other cute romance, I know what will happen next" but then was pleasantly surprised when the story went a different direction than I expected.

Totally love this book, but then, what woman doesn't love sexy Highlanders? A Highlander Walks Into A Bar by Laura Trentham is a fabulous contemporary romance. I think this may be my favorite of the Laura Trentham books I've read. Ms. Trentham has given readers a well-written book and filled it with lovable, fun characters. Isabel was shocked when her mother brings Gareth, a Highlander, home with her from her trip to Scotland. Alasdair arrives soon after to make sure Gareth isn't being conned by golddiggers. Alasdair and Isabel's story is loaded with humor, drama, smokin' hot sexy bits, misunderstandings and an evil boss. I enjoyed every single page of this book and look forward to the next book in this series. A Highlander Walks Into A Bar is book 1 of the Highland, Georgia Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
