I've been struggling to write this review but I just really couldn't finish this book. It had a lot of potential but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me.

DNF

Not a fan of the main character. She spent more time bashing other women than focusing on herself.

Not a fan.

I tried really hard to like this one, but nothing about this book worked for me. I hated the characters, and the plot really fell flat. I was bored while reading this, and finished only because I hate to leave a book unread.

//MY ENGLISH REVIEW//
It seemed a book I would love, like The Kiss Quotient or The Hating Game, but it didn't charmed me at all.
I found almost impossible to like the MC, Julie, so at the end of the book I couldn't care less about her life or her family. Obviously, I understand why she's having such a hard time but her behaviour with Nico made me angry. Nico it's simply wonderfull and he doesn't deserve the way Julie treats him. I couldn't understand why he fell in love with Julie and that's a big problem in a romance novel (at least for me it is).
The starting point was interesing but I didn't like the development, so I couldn't connect with the story.
But don't be discouraged with this review, it's just one opinion! There's nothing like reading and creating one yourself.
I think Mia Heintzelman can write great stories because you can she he has it (the reading was light and the hot scenes were well written), so I'm going to keep an eye on her work.

//MY REVIEW IN SPANISH//

I DNFed this book after 35% percent. On paper it seem a book that I would love but the reality is that I didn't connect with the characters.

Mixed Signals definitely has some mixed reviews and oh boy, I wish I read them before starting this book. I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to romance but I STRUGGLED with this book. I don’t believe in reviewing a book you’ve DNF’d but honestly I had to drag myself to the end this time. The characters lack any emotional depth and the humor missed the mark for me. This book could have been improved with more well rounded characters but unfortunately the plot is a bit cliche and fell flat.

Mixed Signal had Christina Lauren and Jasmine Guillory and Sally Thorne vibes. But it kinda fell short of the trio. Well, mostly on Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne levels. The characters were infuriating and well it seems they were trying too hard. The story in itself seemed to be trying a little too hard. It didn’t make me swoon which was a bummer. So this was okay for me.

Mixed Signals is the perfect weekend read. A quick and light romance with enough depth to keep you reading.

Julie’s character development was well written with an interesting dynamic with every character she interacted with, from Patrick to Celeste, to Sophia, her mom, and even Nico. All unique interactions that added to her character as a whole.

Nico is definitely book boyfriend material and enough reason on his own to pick up and read this book.

I went into this one with high hopes - that blurb had me hooked. Unfortunately I didn't quite get the story I wanted. It's definitely not a bad read. I found myself smiling in parts and happily reading away. The second half of the book was a little harder for me and that's why it gets a 3 instead of a 4. I'd definitely check out more from this author though as there was plenty to enjoy.

DNF @ 15%

Unfortunately this was extraordinary bland and boring. It's just a story we've already seen a thousand times and I couldn't force myself through it once more. Sometimes enough is enough.

Sad to say but this one just didn't work for me. I felt completely disconnected the whole way through and ended up skimming.

I was excited about this one, the premise definitely sounded cute; constantly crossing paths and missing opportunities, who wouldn't love it? Unfortunately, the execution fell flat, and this book was more meh than I would have liked. I get that the book is called "Mixed Signals" but Julie was not a character I loved and had a hard time cheering for her. I really thought her indecisive nature would grow on me, but it didn't. I ended up annoyed more often than not and really just kind of had to work my way through.

**Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book to review!**

Mixed Signals by Mia Heintzelman is a summery read for those looking for an uncomplicated book for the beach or back porch. I really enjoyed the blurb when I requested this book but have some reservations after actually reading the whole story. When I’m looking for a beach read, I’m not looking for a very complicated plot with interesting sentence structure and an in-depth analysis of characters. I want a quick read with a cute guy and their happy ending. If that is all you’re looking for, then this book does deliver.

But for someone that wants more than that and pays attention to grammar and dives just a little below the surface of the characters’ personalities, this might not be as enjoyable. While I liked Nico’s character, both Liz and Julie at times seemed too shallow, selfish and dramatic to me. I could not get myself to like them, which made it more difficult for me to relate and get into the story. I enjoyed Nico and Julie spending time together but was not a big fan of some of the other relationships (with friends and significant others) in the story. Julie also seemed more of a love-struck teenager with her very first love to me than a grown woman with other things to do and worry about than thinking of her boo all day long. The ending also seemed very rushed and too dramatic.

As somebody else stated, this does seem like a good first draft. I like the idea for the storyline a lot, but think that the characters need to be developed some more to make them more likeable (since this does not seem like a story where they would be unlikable on purpose). I have not read any other books by this author yet but do think there is potential for a very good story here.

I found this book very hard to follow and ended up giving up about half way through. The characters lacked depth.

This is a nice enough story about a woman recently left by her stupid ex, and meeting (again and again) a possible rebound candidate.
But it takes a while for Julie to convince herself that she indeed is interested in this adorable guy called like a butterfly. By that time I wasn't unfortunately not so interested anymore in their story. And I don't think that it has so much do to with the plot (the plot was ok) but more with the characters. I somehow didn't really care about either of them very much (although they are by no means disagreeable! you just cannot connect with every protagonist you encounter).

I only got hooked during the last quarter of the book. What will happen? How will it all be resolved? What's with the others?
But being really interested only for a quarter of a book is suffice for only 3 stars in the end.

I liked this premise of this book, and it had potential, but this book really missed the mark for me.

This book just seems all over the place. Julie is struggling amidst her break up, their is competition between her mother and aunt, the competition’s effect on her relationship with her cousin, her former friend now pregnant and engaged to her ex, the slimy ex himself, trying to take the next step in her career and Nico, who seemed wonderful, but is paying for the sins of the ex.

This book had its moments, but not enough to make for a good story.

** I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.”
This is a tough one for me. The characters were relatable. The story was okay but it felt like there was something missing.
There were a few writing missteps but overall the book just lacked spark.
It’s a perfectly fine story but besides the initial eyes meeting across traffic, there is nothing memorable about it.

I Expected a lot from this book, It started great, but after approximately 50 pages It became predictable and a little bit boring.

This was a nice story about a young professional woman who thinks she needs to reinvent who she is in order to a)show her exactly what he’s missing and b) catch someone new. It goes to show you need to be true to yourself. I never got the title, I don’t see how it fits with the story, but that shouldn’t stop you from reading this easy to read little rom-com.

Mixed Signals: A real take on heartbreak for an adult trying to ‘make it in the real world’. The second guessing, complicated family and messy but steadfast friendships paint a picture that isn’t drawn through rose colored glasses. I was glad to see the healthy aspects of self love and rebuilding hand in hand with the unavoidable self doubt that comes with a breakup. Nico is a character who slowly steals your heart. His down to earth qualities make you want to keep him around. The story kept me engaged however, there were a few instances where transitions left me wanting. While I agree to the mixed signals, there’s no mixed feelings on this one, I’m glad I read it. Thanks to NetGalley, publisher, and @miaheintzelmanauthor for this ARC in exchange for honest review. ““This is why I haven’t called you. Can’t you just see how I’m doing and not ask about him? It’s hard enough as it is, but when you keep bringing it up, I’m back at square one. And maybe I’ve got more things going on in my life that have nothing to do with him.”
