I’m sure this book would be wonderful for others, but unfortunately, my interest waned and I DNF. However, I thank you sincerely for the opportunity.

When I started to read this book I was not in a mood for it. I gave a break and tried again.
The book grabbed me and made me enjoy it till the end. I loved the character development. Suspense and romance and how the book grew on me. Good author!

When Malcolm Rannoch's past approaches across a Mayfair ballroom, he has no idea trouble she brings with her. A widow is attacked, and the search is on for a mysterious operative known as the Goshawk. Secrets and scars of the past will be revealed.

I had a hard time getting through this book. I didn't realize just how far along it was in the series, and that means there was A LOT of backstories. There is a lot of baggage from the past from everyone in the story. I also kept getting confused about who each person was and how they were all related. The chart in the beginning was helpful, but inconvenient to keep going back and forth to keep it all straight.

The plot itself was interesting, but it was well over the halfway point before I could read with for more than a short period of time and not be confused. So I would definitely recommend readers start at the beginning to know if this is the series for you.

An interesting historical mystery for fans of the series.

This author was a new one to me, and this is the 17 th book in her regency mystery series based around Malcolm Fraser and his wife Suzanne/Mélanie.

I really have enjoyed her writing, and how she works with her characters. Unlike many regency romances, the characters in her books seem to have multiple affairs while married, both men and women, so it is probably a bit more realistic than many straightforward regency romances. This is used a lot as a plot device in this book, as the way Malcolm’s former love affects the relationship between him and Suzanne.

I really like that Ms Grant writes longer length books, which gives her the space to work through the mystery/ investigation in her book, and also to flesh out her characters and their feelings and motivations. The mystery is interesting and the characters engaging, enough that I have started the series at the beginning and have made my way through the first 5 already.

I have found it hard to keep track of the huge cast of characters, however she has a handy guide at the beginning of the book.

Highly recommended.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

On goodreads too.

I received a copy of this title from the publisher for an honest review. The Glenister Papers is the latest entry in the long running series featuring Malcolm and Melanie Rannoch. Former spys, the couple and their friends have been trying to figure out what the shadowy Elsinore League is up to now. While attending a ball, Malcolm is shocked to come face to face with his first love, Kitty Ashford. Although the Rannoch's have had to confront Melanie's past relationships and have come to terms with their complicated family connections, this is the first that Malcolm's past has come home to roost. Kitty was active on the Spanish Peninsula before departing for Argentina with her husband, but has recently returned to London as a widow with two young children. Kitty is determined to discover the identity of the Goshawk - a popular figure in Spain during the war who may be able to help rally support in the battle against re-instating the Spanish Monarchy and needs Malcolm's help. When the one lead to the Goshawk's identity is discovered unconscious in her home, the race is on to not only figure out the Goshawk's identity, but who is trying to prevent them from discovering it at all costs.

Readers unfamiliar with this series may not want to start here but instead should read the series from the beginning or else risk being confused and not get maximum enjoyment of the book. Malcolm and Melanie's relationship is tested in ways it hasn't been before as they deal with Kitty and her meaning in Malcolm's past. The mystery around the Goshawk's identity is extremely well done and kept me guessing up until the reveal. The supporting cast is superb as usual and there is some development in the Elsinore League storyline. I love the way we get to follow these characters over the course of many years and see how their relationship evolves. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I absolutely loved this newest addition to the series! It actually started to tie some threads together from previous books which was great to read. As always, wonderful interactions along with changing and developing relationships between the characters. I think Melanie and Malcolm of course are wonderful and complex characters but I've always liked the additional characters even more, so I really enjoy that everyone else is being developed further as the series goes on. Great plotting as well, as always. I also liked how some plot lines from the Fraser books were similar while some are different. Ive been reading this series for about 10 years and if you love suspense and historical series, particularly the Napoleonic or Regency era, go read Tracy's books!
