What a great debut novel! Full of action, mystery, suspense and steamy paranormal romance, this story had me hooked from page one. Ramiel and Kyria's story makes me want more from the secondary characters featured in the story. Can't wait for the next book!

First off, I’d like to share how much I LOVE this cover!! I can’t help but stare at it!

If you love paranormal romances, this is for you!

We follow an innocent human whose father becomes very sick, and her only option is to find the fallen angel relayed from her father’s breath.

But when the angel discovers she’s looking for his help, he can’t stop himself from being drawn to her. Even though he wishes he wasn’t because it backfired on him last time.

I loved the dynamic between the two. It’s definitely a quick, enemies to lovers scenerio. I wish there was a steamier romance between the two, but overall, they were still a satisfying duo.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I liked the mission behind the plot to find and save her father, and then the strict leash the angel has from his master. It was unique, and immediately captured me into the story.

This was a fairly quick read for me, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store in future books!

Kyria and her father had been on the run from the cartel even since she was a child and the cartel had killed her mother. But now her father is sick and she had to be the one to find this mysterious Ramiel that her father was always talking about.

Ramiel was only given 7 days a month out of hell in order to restore his holy essence, after that he is dragged back to hell by the demon who held him captive. The demon used his blood for experiments and there is no end in sight to the torment.

Kyria sets out to find Ramiel when her father gets sick, but when she finds him he wants nothing to do with her until she finds herself in danger. For whatever reason when Ramiel senses Kyria is in danger, he comes to her rescue and lets her in on a few secrets. There's a whole other world of beasts out there that she never knew about and now that they know she exists, they'll be coming for her and her father even more than ever. By the time they get back to the motel room where her father was, he's gone and they set out to find out what happened to him.

Kyria and Ramiel go back to the ranch she and her father had been living at for a few years where she finds out that the people she thought she knew, were keeping a lot of secrets from her. A huge twist is revealed and Kyria finds out what she really is. On their journey to find Kyria's father they come in contact with some of Ramiel's family when he needs help. While searching for her father Kyria and Ramiel become a lot closer than either of them had plans to. Their romance was sweet, and sad in part to Ramiel having been tortured for so many years in hell. But he's such a great guy even if he didn't realize it after having been beat down for so long. There was a lot more to this story than I first thought which made it a real page turner.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a review but all of my opinions are my own.

By looking at The cover I had expected that I would get some hot paranormal stuff and only that. Yet I got so much more which makes me extremely happy.
Characters had depth, were strong, loveable and for sure I was cheering for them. The plot had some twists but nothing on the extreme side.
I hope book 2 will follow soon.

I received an ARC of Unchained Desire from NetGalley, and this is my honest review. For all of her life, Kyria has always been on the run with her father. After a few years of finally living in peace in one place, they must now flee in order to save her father from a sudden illness. When her father becomes too ill to search for his savior, Ramiel, Kyria must go search for him.

Ramiel is a fallen Archangel who has been the captive of one of Hell's demons, Nema. He only has 7 days a month where he is able to be on earth, feed, and slake his needs. When Kyria finds jaded Ramiel and asks for his help, he turns his back on her. He vowed a long time ago to not fall for the seemingly innocent and helpless women.

Kyria is stubborn and pursues Ramiel's assistance. As creatures begin to attack Kyria, Ramiel realizes that there's more to her and what is happening than meets the eye. As Kyria and Ramiel work closely together to find her father, they begin to learn more about each other. Will Ramiel allow his heart and feelings to thaw and allow Kyria in or will he remain unmoved and hardened? Will Kyria allow the truth of who and what she is to crumble her or will she rise and become a warrior?

This is the first book of R. C. Alvarez that I have read, and I absolutely loved it. The plot was steady and grew more engaging with each chapter. The characters were extremely well developed. I loved that this is not your typical Heaven vs Hell, Love vs Hate story. Each character had his/her own personality. The Archangels are not all light and righteous. They are good but also have made some bad decisions. I feel like the flow of the story is continuously building up and a bigger picture. It does end on a cliffhanger. I could not put this book down. Thank you R.C. Alvarez and Netgalley for introducing me to a new author and world. I look forward to finding out what happens next.

Ram is an archangel that is enslaved to a demoness, but he gets 7 days on earth to replenish himself so his torment can begin again. He has given up on his life changing, and he especially doesn't trust supposed "innocents" needing help. Kyria has gone to Ram to try to get help for her father, not realizing exactly what she is stepping into. Or what it will bring down on not only her head but Ram's as well.

This book was not quite what I was expecting based off the blurb. That's not to say it's not a good read, but for me it was more of an ok read. This seemed to be more about the religion aspect to me, and not necessarily a romance book per se. That being said, I did finish the whole thing. And on a whole the story is decent, I just had a hard time getting into it because of all the talk about religion and such. It was a little too much for me I guess. I'm not sure if I want to read the next one, although I would like to know about one of the characters we see a lot of in it. So I guess I will probably give it a try again.

Based on the synopsis, this wasn't quite what I was expecting. Still, it was pretty darn good and I often wanted to just keep on reading. I'm not at all that into reading religious themed books, but somehow this one managed to not actually be totally religious. It's hard to explain because while that's sort of the whole backstory, there were tons of things that go against what one would expect. It was an odd sort of mix that I was okay with.

Ram is a fallen archangel that has been enslaved by a demon for the past 150 years. And oh how she has broken him. He has given up on everyone he once called family and his hatred for them abandoning him to this fate burns hot. Kyria is almost as innocent as they come. Sheltered and protected by her father her entire life, she doesn't even know that she's a nephilim. And a special one at that. She sees the good everywhere but won't back down when it comes to protecting the ones she loves.

Ram gets 7 days topside (I don't remember if it's every year or month...or if it was even mentioned) in order for him to replenish his physical form. See, an interesting twist to the angels in this book is that they require human blood in order to stay alive. These precious few days are as close to freedom as Ram can get anymore and he has no desire to waste them. Especially not on some innocent girl that comes to him for help. Helping an innocent is how he ended up enslaved to a demon all those years ago, and he won't risk it. But Kyria has struck a protective instinct in him that he also can't ignore. Especially when he starts having visions again of what would happen if he left her. Kyria was seeking Ram out because he is the one and only lead she has to help her sick father. Everything about him screams that she should be afraid and run, but she also feels this undeniable connection to him.

I loved how Ramiel and Kyria were together. Kyria sees past the harsh exterior that Ram shows the world to the man he truly is. And she's the only one that gets to see the tender side of him he desperately tries to hide. No matter how many times Ram tries to push her away, Kyria refuses to give up on him. And that only makes him love her more each day. Days that are sorely limited. Once Kyria finds out what she is, she also learns of some special skills she has. Together with Ram, she works to be able to use them better and she also trains to protect herself more. Because their enemies are demons and demons don't fight fair.

Kyria's father had been kidnapped that night she went to find Ram, and it wasn't hard to figure out who took him. When it's confirmed though, instead of working together with anyone, Ram barters for her father's freedom alone and makes a decision that he would only do for Kyria. A decision that frustrated the hell out of me. The ending with this one was really good and I really liked how everything went down. I am definitely curious as to what will happen next, and given the chance I would also definitely give it a read.

I will say that Bishop was one of my favorite characters here. Too much knowledge stuck in a human body has pretty much driven him mad, and he mostly speaks in nothing but riddles. But if one paid enough attention, they can sometimes figure out exactly what he's trying to say. And his crazy was actually kind of fun to me.

Reading the back cover of Unchained Desire by R.C. Alvarez, I was really interested to see how this would go…

Ramiel has been chained to a Demon Queen for centuries, humanity, oh please, the humans are all selfish and self centered. The only family he cares about are his brothers and sisters, and he hasn’t heard or seen them in a while. He is given seven days to replenish his energy (he needs blood) and that’s all he cares about now.

He wasn’t always this way, but meeting an innocent (who wasn’t so innocent) he was trapped, he now serves a Demon Queen, tortured and chained. But he hopes one day to be released, but he doesn’t know how or if ever.

Kyria is on the run!! Why?? And why does the tattoo like mark on the back of her neck ache? It’s been like that for the past two weeks. Her father has given her no choice, they have to run. After six years of some semblance of normality, they have to leave the ranch they’ve been living in and run again. Why? The cartel have found Darius (her dad) and Kyria, her mother had been murdered years ago and are after Darius. Her only friend Eli is concerned, but Darius is convinced Eli is part of the cartel (Eli’s father is the head, supposedly) and her dad keeps ranting about demons and keeping her safe.

In the bar, Ramiel is having a hard time, he feels out of sorts, he knows he should feed, but there is something not right. And he’s proven correct…. in she walks with an innocent and purity that sets his teeth on edge, but also a want (and last time he paid for it dearly) and when she approaches him to help her father (a man that helped put him where he is today) Ramiel tells her that he won’t help.

Kyria is crushed, her father needs help and she thought this Ramiel works help, but he’s arrogant and rude and really hot😉 but when he tells Kyria that her dad doesn’t deserve help, she needs to convince him.

And when a demon attacks Kyria, Ramiel has no choice but to help. But there is a price, and he doesn’t want to pay it. But Kyria could be Ramiel’s saviour, but will he trust her enough? And what secret does Kyria hold?

Unchained Desire was well written. Ramiel and Kyria connected and the story really flowed. Very descriptive, I really liked it.

3 1/2 Star Review....

Unchained Desire is the first book in the Rapture series, and also my first read by R.C. Alvarez. I enjoyed the overall concept of the book and the world building was interesting and insightful. I did however fins the story a little hard to follow at times, and didn’t really get all the way into the plot until about a third of the way through. The author’s writing shows promise and I’m sure that it will only improve as the series evolves. I look forward to what and who comes next!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Balance is important in many aspects of our lives. It is also crucial for books. In a Paranormal Romance novel there must be a good balance between the story, the characters development, the action, the romance and the world building. The first book of The Rapture fails miserably at juggling all those aspects. But it shows promise…

In this story we follow Kyria, a young woman who is not aware of the paranormal creatures that surround her. She is even clueless about her own angelic blood running through her veins. When her father gets very sick, she goes looking for the second half of this duet: Ramiel. He is a fallen angel who has been captured by a demon and must do her bidding. Luckily, he can enjoy seven days of almost freedom now and then. Just enough time to meet a scared Kyria…

As I mentioned before, this book is pretty unbalanced. In this case, the scales favour much more heavily the world building part of the story. I really enjoyed all the facts that are dropped about the angels, the Nephilim, the demons… A huge bunch of details. They can’t be consider original, but they are all tied together pretty smoothly. I enjoyed the fact that these angels must drink blood. I wasn’t expecting vampires with angelic wings! It is not a long book, but the world that is offered could sustain dozen of different stories, so I will have to keep an eye on this author to see what comes next.

I honestly enjoyed all the world building and the nice setting, but I’m afraid the other aspects of the book had to be sacrificed in order to make room for it. We have the prettiest stage as a background for a really boring story. This book is mostly uneventful, with too much babbling that gets us nowhere. In many chapters of the book I had to fight back really hard in order not to fall asleep. The ending gets a bir more livelier, but by then the damage was done and I just wanted to get over it. Besides, the plot is rather obvious; but that wouldn’t have mattered if the pace were somehow good.

The characters are also pretty weak and lacking charisma everywhere. From the main couple, Ramiel is the most interesting. The bad boy fallen angel looked like he could be fun to read, but all the chances of banter are missed and what we get is a boring exchange that seems stuck in a loop. Maybe a tad less broody and a bit more playful would have made the character a lot better. His other half doesn’t help at all. Kyria is a mess as a character. She doesn’t make any sense. We just have to make believe with her. Even the way they meet is forced to a limit I hadn’t read in a very long time. Everyone knows that when your father blacks out, you shouldn’t call an ambulance or ask for help. Just run to the seediest club you know and look for what you think is a detective undercover during a mission… Standard procedure…

Even though the main couple is a nightmare, there are several supporting characters that are interesting and almost make up for them. Bishop would be, without any doubt, the best character of this book. I wish the same care would have been applied to Ramiel and Kyria. It seems obvious the crazy madman will be important during the whole saga. I think he is going to be the link between all the books. So I’m glad the character is so special and fun to read. Even though sometimes I didn’t understand a thing of what he was saying.

And if you are wondering if the romantic aspect of the book is worth mentioning, let me tell you that you would be better off skipping those parts. They are few, short and as boring as the couple that stars in them.

Overall, it is a good idea that has been carried out in a sloppy way. But the world building is good enough for me to check the next ones of this saga. So, let’s hope the author gets the balance better in future stories.

I really liked this book. I have really enjoyed every book by this author that I have read so far. This was a good quick read one rainy afternoon.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I can say that I’m truly looking for more.

An action filled paranormal romance with a sexy and tortured fallen angel, demons and a woman with a spine of steel.

Ramiel is strong, tortured and angry. He trusts no one but himself after a betrayal of those closest to him.

Kyria has been on the run most of her life. When her father falls ill however, she must find Ramiel in order to help her father.

The connection between her and Ramiel is instantaneous almost like it is fated. But things are more complicated than that because the truth she once believed in is about to be turned upside down.

Will she be strong enough for what’s to come? Are her and Ramiel fated?

This is a solid beginning to a promising series. It was well written and intriguing.

There was a lot of information and introductions to take in and I found that sometimes I got a little lost or tried to remember who a character was.

With that being said, I’m curious and excited to see how this story will continue to unfold.

I received an ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In many ways, this is an unusual read. Yes, it is a romance, but there's an awful lot more going on besides that. I've read plenty of books that would fall into a similar genre to this, the paranormal style of romance, with the heroine discovering that she's more than she originally understood and a hero that feels that he's too damaged for her. I don't know if it was how well written this book was, or that the plot was just the little bit different, or a bit of both, but there was something compelling about this story. Once I started reading, I was reluctant to put it down and had to keep reading until I got to the end.
There's something about the hero, Ramiel, in particular, which makes you want to follow his story and see what is going to happen with him. I enjoyed finding out about the world in which they live. It's clear that there's a lot more to come here, with questions left unanswered that I assume are going to be addressed in future books.
There was one little bit that I didn't enjoy. The ending of the book was a little bit cliche and unnecessary. I don't want to go into details and give away spoilers, but I can't help but feel that archangels and the like really wouldn't bother with conventional 'human' things, even if they were trying to provide some normality for their partner. I personally, would have prefered the book without that.
I really enjoyed this read and I am looking forward to reading what comes next.

Unchained Desire was a little difficult for me to understand at first but about 35% in I was hooked. This book is not the sexual romp I thought it was going to be based on the cover. I felt there were some parts that kind of dragged and others that felt a little rushed. Overall, an enjoyable read but nothing special.

Unchained Desire
by R. C. Alvarez

Wow! This book was such an intense and emotional read, I loved it.

Kyria and her father have been on the run for her entire life. After being stable for the last 6 years, they have to leave again. But this time her father is sick and needs help from Ramiel.

Ramiel is a involuntarily resident of hell, Chained, drained and tortured for the last 150 years. As his seven day reprieve he receives each month begins, he becomes ensnarled in Kyria’s situation.

But as it turns out Kyria’s dilemma, is exactly what he needs, if he would get over himself. Is it really possible that they are fated to be mates? Crazy Bishop helps the best he can with his crazy mixed up riddles. Can she save him as he saves her? Only crazy Bishops knows.

There were so many characters in this story, but they all fit in without being overwhelming. I also felt that the plot was the right amount of suspense. Looking forward to the next installment in this series.
