Somehow I'd never read any of Jack Grapes' work before, so I went into this with few expectations. It was a wide ranging collection, some of the poems better than others, and ultimately it was interesting to read a decades-spanning body of work from a new-to-me poet. At 500+ pages, this isn't an easy undertaking, but read in small bits each day, it's doable and you can really savor each poem.

This is an epic collection of Jack Grapes work over the last fifty years., As to be expected in a collection this size, there is a very wide range of themes and subjects featured. The poet has a wonderful way of provoking imagery with his often concise use of language, and none of it is more effective when utilised on topics that are of a far more personal nature such as the passing of his father and broken relationships throughout his life..

For anyone looking for an perfect introduction to the poet, this would be it.

Highly recommended.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
