#TheStarterWife is a very short quick read but very confusing. The reader has to fill in the holes if the plot to lead you to the end of the story. A second read may need to take place to realize the ending. Colleen, Bryon’s first wife is a successful artist and has filled her home with her art. Bryons second wife,

Claire, lives under Colleen’s shadow living in her house with her art all around. Claire is a much younger wife that wants to write the great novel but doesn’t seem to have the drive.

Byron is a professor of literature and creature of habit, living in his first wife’s house and going to the same restaurants they went to.

To rectify the plot, a second read may be necessary because the plot doesn’t lead you to a conclusion. #Netgalley

The Starter wife was an excellent suspenseful thriller perfect for those readers who love domestic thrillers. The book was very engaging and kept me glued to the pages all throughout! This book would make an excellent beach read!

So I’m reading this and thinking, this sounds like a pretty good book, but as soon as I think that, the book ends . Guess I was given just an excerpt instead of the ARC to read. What is it that publishers think reading a chapter or two is enough for a feedback. I’ve had about 3 of these excerpts given to me now, and my rating will be the same for this as for those others... A 1, because I really can’t rate it on an excerpt alone.. I don’t think I’d pick this up at the library or buy it, or even refer to my book club just because of this.. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for these bits and pieces.

Well for some reason I only received the first 3 chapters of The Starter Wife by Nina Laurin, so I can't recommend for or against it. It seems like a great idea and I was interested until it completely stopped.

I was zipping right through this on my lunch break and got a little suspicious when my app said I'd read 99% with the story barely begun, and it's just an excerpt?! Aw, man. It was so good! Well, at least since I waited until it was already published I can go pick up a copy and pick up where I left off. Can't wait!
3 based on what I've read so far, but fingers crossed for a 4 or 5.

The preview hints at a domestic psychological thriller that was just starting to unravel. I liked how the author juxtaposed the voices of two unreliable narrators, one whose identity is mysterious (and difficult for me to figure out) at the time the sample ended. Hard to rate this title in stars given that it is not complete, so these 3 stars are not for the entire book and could go up after finishing the novel

I rated it three stars but how am I supposed to rate and review only FIVE chapters? I thought I’d was getting the entire book to read and review.

I didn’t realize that the book I downloaded, The Starter Wife by Nina Laurin, was just sneak peek! I started getting into the story and suddenly- it ended! WHAT?

I have never settled in with a book and only had a couple of chapters to read so I was a little annoyed. But the good news is that this novel is out in its entirety now and I do plan on continuing to read it.

Here’s what you need to know:

Local police have announced that they’re closing the investigation of the suspected drowning of 37-year-old painter Colleen Westcott. She disappeared on April 11, 2010, and her car was found parked near the waterfront in Cleveland two days later, but her body has never been found. The chief of police has stated that no concrete evidence of foul play has been discovered in the probe.

I close the online search window, annoyed. These articles never have enough detail. They think my husband’s first wife disappeared or they think she is dead. There’s a big difference.

My phone rings, jarring me away from my thoughts, and when I pick it up, it’s an unknown number. The only answer to my slightly breathless hello is empty static.

When the voice does finally come, it’s female, low, muffled somehow. “Where is it, Claire? What did you do with it? Tell me where it is.”

A woman. A real flesh-and-blood woman on the other end of the phone. She’s not just in my head.

A wave of panic spreads under my skin like ice water. It’s Colleen.

I liked the writing from the first page, it’s casual and easy to read but pulls you in. I look forward to reading more later and actually finishing it. I just downloaded the full novel.

This is out now, read it on your kindle- order here.

Well, I loved what I was able to read but didn't realize this was all just a preview. I wish we were able to read the entire novel to truly review this book.

The Starter Wife was only a preview, therefore, I do not have a definitive opinion. However, I will admit that the excerpt I read was intriguing, but not intriguing enough for me to seek out the complete novel.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Nina Lauren for an ARC of The Starter Wife in exchange for an honest review.

This book is an addicting, hard to put down, domestic suspense! I enjoyed every minute of it and found it super fun!

Byron is married to Claire now, his first wife, Colleen, committed suicide. They live in Colleen's house, surrounded by Colleen's things, and it drives Claire, quite literally, insane.

The story is told from Claire's POV, with inklings into a darker, stalker-ish POV from whom you will try to guess, and then eventually find out. The characters come to life from the very beginning and only get stronger and scarier from then on.

My favorite of Nina Laurin's! Fans of domestic suspense will be not be disappointed.

Thank you NetGalley, Nina Laurin and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read part of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. (Yes, I read the whole book).

I didn't know this was only a preview! Nowhere did it say that when I requested to read it. However, it is definitely a book I want to finish. It

Well that was a fun, roller coaster of a ride with lots of loop-the-loops, twists, turns, and breakneck speed. My intrigue was immediately piqued, and that interest only grew as the story progressed. Just a pure, fun little psychological thriller.

Claire Westcott, a struggling writer, is married to Byron Westcott, a college literature professor, and their relatively cushy life is all due to Byron’s first wife, Colleen;

Colleen, who was much loved.

Colleen, who was a gifted and successful artist.

Colleen, who committed suicide...or did she?

Someone is trying to ruin Claire’s and Byron’s marriage, but is Claire simply paranoid or losing her mind?

Guess you’ll find out if you read this entertaining thriller. Although I guessed some of the plot lines Nina Laurin created, I was still pleasantly surprised and satisfied as the last page was turned.

Thank you to Netgalley, Nina Laurin, and Grand Central Publishing for a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Published June 11th, 2019.

I was bummed that this is just a preview. Nowhere did it state that when I requested this title! I love all of Nina Laurin’s books and was eager to read this one!

This would make a good Book Club read as it is so thought provoking. I did not connect with any of the main characters as they were not very likeable. I’m sure the author intended this. The storyline was a roller coaster ride. There were so many twists and turns with an ending I did not expect.
Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Byron and Claire are married. Byron's first wife Colleen died under suspicious circumstances. She apparently committed suicide by jumping off a bridge but her body was never found. Claire is always insecure about being Byron's second love and when weird things start happening, she doesn't know what to believe. This is a good thriller that I read in one day as I needed to know what was going on! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

I always give my honest opinion. Please don't hate me. My rating is based on the brief pages. I got a sneak peek into this book, i was given 33 pages to read and out of them i wasnt able to connect like i had hoped to. The prologue had sounded so good i continued reading until I finally caught myself forcing myself to continue. I liked the synopis was interesting and made me want to read it but Im not sure if it started out to slow for me, or just a hard time connecting to the character. Thank you for the opportunity to read it and give a review!

I was able to read enough to know that I want more! I will definitely read the rest upon publication.

This was such a teaser!

Thanks!
