Dark and twisty. Starts out really compelling, but gets a bit slow in the middle. There is a LOT going on in this book- some of the characterizations/back stories seem superfluous. It has a solid twist, though, and I can see it being a good book club pick.

Psychological thriller with many twists and turns. Sometimes it seems hard to follow all of the twists.

A very interesting and intense read although at times was very hard to follow. Would recommend though

Honestly not sure how I feel about this book. It hooked me from the start, but I found it confusing and hard to follow at times. I wanted to finish it, but felt like it dragged on and on and on and got more confusing as it went. Hard to keep straight all the characters, who was nice, who was mean, who was both, and leaves you continually trying to put the story together. I think I liked it...but still feel confused.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story just went on, and needlessly on. Eighty-nine chapters. The writing is decent - there were many great and even clever lines. After a while, there were too many great and clever lines. There was also way too much interior monologue (telling and not showing), and everyone and everything is shrouded in mystery. Now HERE is a novel that should have been turned into a serial. Thomas Wolfe had serious issues with over writing and I was feeling a sense of deja vu with this novel as well. This book was certainly not my cup of tea.

Interesting and unusual story with many twists. Have read most of J T Ellisons books and this is not as good as others.

There is some gory stuff here, being in a snooty rich girls' school only adds to the viciousness.
The way this book was set up there was lots of semi veiled references to how things had happened before and allusions to some shady business taking place now.
It's a bit frustrating to get teased when you know it will be pages and pages before the story is told; to keep trying to put the little clues together.

Normally I like JT Ellison, but this is not one of the best. The meanness of everyone, the betrayals, and ultimately the end of a few of them is disheartening.

The ending is sad, but I am not sure I totally understand who is who, so maybe it wasn't as sad as I thought.

This book captivated me entirely from the first paragraph.

Dark, spooky and atmospheric, this tale is full of intrigue and dubious plots, strange relationships, secrets and lies.

Set within a private boarding school, J.T Ellison has expertly described the school and grounds so well you feel like you are walking the halls alongside the students.

The whole storyline has this mesmerising feel about it that sucks you in and has you question everything thing and everyone!

Very cleverly thought out and written, each character has their own back story of privilege, pain and secrets. But just how far will these students and staff go to protect them?

An unpredictable mystery with an ending that blew me away!

A big thanks to Netgalley & Harlequin for the ARC. This has got to be one of my most favourite books to devour this year.

Excellent and absorbing. JT Ellison gives us an inside peek at a prestigious girls' boarding school in GOOD GIRLS LIE. Ash Carlisle has come to The Goode School to escape her parents' recent deaths. But she didn't plan on the cruelty she gets from some of the girls and the harsh hazing inflicted by the secret societies. But Ash is bright and determined to make a go of her new life. But Ash has secrets of her own and when another student dies, keeping those secrets proves much more difficult than she thought. Like all of Ellison's books, this one is well written, with good, believable characters. And quite a twist at the end.

This was a great book that had me hooked very early on. The characters are what brings this novel to life. Although I had the storyline figured out half way through, the writing was so great that it didn’t make a difference.

I sorry to say I was disappointed in story. The whole novel seem too busy. Everyone seemed to be running around, inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs. People were nice then mean. It just was confusion right to the end.

Good Girls Lie is completely unpredictable mystery with an end that could have knocked me over with a feather. In a dark, twisted boarding school whose students pledge truth and honesty, everyone lies- the students, the dean, the chauffeur, everyone. Told between switching viewpoints of first and third person, the first person narrative is from an unreliable narrator full of secrets and manipulations that I felt empathetic for and still did not completely trust. When a death rocks the school, the ivory tower teeters on the brink of destruction as the lies and secret societies become unwound as the police investigate the possible suicide or murder of a student. A school full of rich, privileged, and spoiled brats provide a buffet of suspects when everyone is snappish and seems capable of murder. The blows keep coming as the author stands the story on its head in thrilling and shocking plot twists that blindsided me and kept me coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

Perched atop a hill in the tiny town of Marchburg, Virginia, The Goode School is a prestigious prep school known as a Silent Ivy. The boarding school of choice for daughters of the rich and influential, it accepts only the best and the brightest. Its elite status, long-held traditions and honor code are ideal for preparing exceptional young women for brilliant futures at Ivy League universities and beyond. But a stranger has come to Goode, and this ivy has turned poisonous.

In a world where appearances are everything, as long as students pretend to follow the rules, no one questions the cruelties of the secret societies or the dubious behavior of the privileged young women who expect to get away with murder. But when a popular student is found dead, the truth cannot be ignored. Rumors suggest she was struggling with a secret that drove her to suicide.

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book it was a great experience first time reading anything from this author

This book is a must read. The questions start on the first page and this continues until the last. The workings of private boarding school life in America is fascinating and the description of the traditions is breathtaking.
The characters are multi layered and fascinating and the relationships between them are complicated and not fully revealed until the turn of the last page.
This book could be a dark, difficult read but the author handles the subject matter with brilliance and control. Again, this is a must read

The story begins on an ominous note and keeps the tension throughout, culminating in multiple twists that keep the reader guessing. It mainly focuses on Ash Carr, a British woman who has come to the prestigious Goode school in Marchburg, Virginia to help her get into a good university. It is immediately apparent that she's hiding something about her past. She clashes with other students and remains under the watchful eye of the school's dean, who is also hiding her own secrets. As the story progresses the truth begins to come out, putting multiple characters in grave danger. JT Ellison is always a good read and I look forward to more of her books.

Oh I really loved this!! It was a juicy mix of gossip girl, the talented Mr Ripley and Shirley Conran’s Lace! Set in the beautiful Goode school it is told through many persons eyes - but mainly orphaned Ash who is trying to get away from her past! There was all the usual secret society, bullying behaviours and shocking revelations that made it so enjoyable! A few little twists before the end sets the reader up for the blinding last 2! I struggled to put this down if I am honest. It was sheer escapism! I love J T Ellison anyway and she really didn’t disappoint this time! Outstanding read!
