Not my cup.of tea, gaslighting is my least favorite troupe. I am not a fan of unreliable narrators either.

I don't know what I was, expecting but it wasnt this book! It was so good! Its rare that a book keeps me guessing until the final page but this one did! Even when I thought I had figured it out it threw me for a conplete loop. And then you think its over but nope! Way to write a book that kerps me entertained and has a,solid plot that twists and turns too many times to count!

I want to start this review off by saying that I did not see that ending coming. Usually I pride myself on having a really good idea of what the end result would be, but this? This surprised me. In fact, I may even say that I was happily surprised. (Which, if you read this book, it probably sounds odd that I am happily surprised. Perhaps I just like being caught off guard? Eh, who knows.)
To start off, the thought of my husband having two other wives is so far fetched for me. Mostly because I don't know how he handles dealing with me on a good day let alone how he would deal with two other women. So, when I read the synopsis for The Wives I knew I had to read it. You could say my interest was piqued.
I found myself incredibly invested in this story. Everything about this book interested me: the polygamy, hiding the truth, the stalking, the outright lies. Not to mention, the author is an incredible writer. It was easy to follow along and it painted a vivid mental picture. There is a little bit of action that keeps you on your toes. I couldn't help but have to know what happened next.
Lastly, that ending, wow. I will admit, I did not see that coming and I was impressed. It left me completely rethinking the entire book, but in a good way. I would definitely recommend this book.

The beginning of this book was wonderful, it drew me right in. But it went downhill quickly. It tried to balance the classic unreliable narrator with a few too many twists. That led to it just being chaotic and unenjoyable, rather than intriguing and page turning. There was a lot of
Uncomfortable build up that led to zero pay off at the end.

The Wives
By
Taryn Fisher
This novel is rather unconventional and the arrangement is unconventional, a polygamous relationship and Thursday the main character, the second wife gets to spend” Thursday” ( the day of the week) with Seth her husband, trying to convince herself that this is enough. She struggles with jealousy but wants to be the best wife, she knows this is a competition without letting on to her husband. But one day while doing the laundry Thursday finds a scrap of paper with an appointment reminder for a woman named Hannah, Thursday realizes this must be one of Seth’s other wives. Thursday tracks Hannah down under false pretenses. Hannah has no idea who Thursday is and turns up to coffee dates with bruises on her arms. And then there is Regina Seth’s first wife from whom he is now divorced. Thursday thinks she may be an ally to her in her quest. Seth has not ever been abusive to Thursday. I am limiting the plot and details of the novel as not to reveal any spoilers.
The story has so many twists and turns and it keeps one captivated right until the very end.
This is a book for readers who like psychological thrillers.

Polygamy is oddly intriguing to me simply because I can't comprehend that kind of lifestyle. Through this book we get into head of our protagonist Thursday, one of three wives of Seth. She portrays polygamy as exactly how I thought it would be: lonely days and nights, thin slices of perceived happiness, sacrifices, facades, heartbreak, and lots of emotional torture.
Just when I got the hang of this whole polygamy thing, the author pulled the rug out from under me and shoved in many twists. I won't share any spoilers, but I did expect the main plot to have someone end up dead early in the story. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with some jaw dropping twists and unexpected turns.
None of the characters are likeable in this book, but didn't stop me from reading. Everyone is crazy. It is chock-full of unreliable narrators that question your sanity. It reads like a train wreck that you can't stop watching. I binge read it because I was duped into a certain way of thinking and then it turned out to be wrong. Is Thursday crazy? Or am I, the reader, crazy because I didn't catch the clues? It made me think.
This book is about mental illness, secrets, family, deception, delusion, and lies. The writing is stellar. It's a roller coaster ride of a book that causes you to wonder exactly what you read because it twists in such unexpected ways.

this book is very dark, well written, and will probably do well. having said that, i didn't care for the main character or her husband and never really trusted wither of them.

This book was so strange. I couldn't stop reading it, but the ending had me a bit disappointed that they went for such an overused twist.

I read this book in two sittings, staying up far past when I expected to.
Despite the fact that I have a friend who was once a "second wife", I don't understand being okay with sharing one's spouse. But the beauty of this book is that the reader need not understand polygamy to enjoy this book.
I was sucked into a world that was well-paced and intriguing, a world I thought I understood. But the ride turned twisty and there was no way I could go to sleep without reading all the way to the end.
But I wasn't prepared for a blow-to-the-gut twist that has kept this book at the forefront of my mind. In fact, this might be one of those unforgettable ones.
Must-read is an overused phrase, but you MUST READ this. Don't assume you know what's happening, because you'll rob yourself of the thrill, the impact and the shock.
READ THIS

First of all THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE ARC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ON ANOTHER NOTE.........TARRYN????????? WHERE IN THE WORLD DOES YOUR BRAIN COME UP WITH THIS LITERAL FICTION MAGIC? Yup, I know, your twisted pretty head. First off, how ironic the h's real name is Thursday......I was like no, no way, that's a mistake, but sure enough, only TF would think of such an irony! How twisted are these characters? Very twisted and even poor little young'in Hannah is no innocent! Shame on the h's mother, how could you be so oblivious when apparently your husband, Thursday's father (just to clarify...he he he) knew all along of the sick and twisted mind F**ks that were happening! Don't blame Regina one bit, I think that if I were in her shoes I may have gone overboard as well to get my revenge! Seth, hmmmmmmmm, whatevs; by the end of the book I could care less for his ********** ways, he just likes to jump into holes, v-holes. Thursday is one disturbed woman, I ALMOST felt sorry for her but nope, not really.

This was my first Taryn Fischer book and it did not disappoint! She’s very close to Colleen Hoover and Colleen is one of my favorite author! All the books that I have read are all 5 stars, so I couldn’t wait to read a Taryn Fischer book.
Right from the start I couldn’t put it down. I was in a book slump beforehand and this definitely got me out!
This book will be very hard to review was I am struggling to not give anything away. Let’s just say there are many surprises along the way!
The only POV we have is from the main character’s perspective…When that happens it’s hard for the reader to cipher what is real and what isn’t. I also loved how the story was narrated, it was like someone was telling me a story.
Overall, this was a very unpredictable, insane but insanely amazing psychological thriller!
Oh, and I can’t forget about the ending…utterly shocking. Loved every second of it!

Tarryn Fisher is the type of writer that makes the reader question his or her own sanity at the end of each book and The Wives is no different.
For me the beginning started off a bit slow but about 15-20% in and it started flying. The Wives is complicated, heartbreaking, chilling, and made me begin to analyze pieces of my life.
By the time I was at the end, I questioned every word I read and then decided I must read it again!

I can't think of a way to review this unusual story without spoilers. So, I'll just say it held my attention throughout. I didn't want to put it down. And the ending caught me completely off guard. Tarryn Fisher is an excellent writer. She deserves five stars. But, The Wives left me feeling unsettled and nervous.

This was a different take on the more than one wife stories. There were many surprises and I could barely put the book down. I couldn’t wait to see what happened but then I didn’t want it to end!

I have really mixed feelings about this book, but in the end I was not really a fan. The premise was intriguing and the writing is definitely excellent--it was easy to read and kept drawing me back. I thought I was going to love it, but about halfway through it took a turn I really didn't like. Then it seemed to recover and I thought good fake out, can't wait to find out what's going to happen, but I really hated the ending. I'd definitely read another Taryn Fisher book because I think she's very talented and a really engaging writer, but this one left me disappointed. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of the book.
Actually, editing to say I'm changing my mind. I didn't like the ending, but it's actually kind of clever. Even though I was hoping for something different, it shouldn't really detract from what the book probably deserves. So I'm going to add a star to go up to 4. I often forget books as soon as I'm done reading them and this one has kept me going back thinking about it and reevaluating, so I guess for that alone it deserves more credit!

This book completely surprised me. I was initially intrigued by the hype on social media and the topic of polygamy. I found Thursday's voice to be completely authentic in that she was easily able to recognize the social perception of plural marriage so she kept that information to herself, but was still able to justify it in her head because she made the extra effort to be the favorite of Seth's wives. A bit of a slow build, but be prepared for the last portion of the book where you won't expect what is coming or be able to put it down!

This was wild! I've never read any of Tarryn Fisher's books before but I'm definitely going to be making them a priority to check out now. I kept thinking I had it figured out, but the hits and twists just kept on coming! Not my favorite thriller/book ever but enjoyable!

Thursday is sure that her husband has two other wives, if only in name. She has been sharing him for years thinking that have some time with Seth is better than nothing. He has told her that he was raised by polygamist parents but she's never met them. Then a series of events cause her to question everything that she has known. When she discovers who the others are, she is determined to meet them. But a confrontation with Seth leads her to a stay in a psychiatric ward and she is even more determined when she is released.. Is Thursday seeing reality or is her reality a carefully constructed web created by Seth and the other wives? Lots of twists and turns kept me reading well into the night just to see how it all played out. I'm still wondering...

I don't think I'm going to write a huge, long review on this one because I'm afraid of typing something that could potentially spoil the book for others. This is a book you should go in blind and with absolutely no expectation because if you go in otherwise, Tarryn is going to blow anything you thought right out of the water.
This is some of Tarryn's best work and the writing I love so much from her. I've missed this magic from her but The Wives definitely brought it all back. This genre is where Tarryn belongs and I hope we get more of these types of books from her in the future.
Like a few other reviews I am going back and forth on the ending but I believe it's exactly the kind of reaction Tarryn wanted. It's unpredictable and leaves you with your mouth hanging wide open, hoping there is just one more chapter.
From the cover to the very last word you can be sure Tarryn Fisher is going to take you for a ride you won't soon forget.

Holy heck! What the what?!?! I can't even formulate full thoughts!!
Could not put this one down!
What I loved: I thought I knew what was happening, but I didn't even have a clue. Not. One. Clue.
What I hated: That I didn't have a clue!!!
What I liked: I didn't know who to hate!!
Can't wait for others to read this so we can discuss it!!
Actual stars 4.5.
