The Wives by Tarryn Fisher is a twisty, messed up, dark thriller that’ll have you questioning who you can trust and everything you thought you knew! Miss Fisher has done it again with this one—I loved the direction she went with this story. I went into it pretty much blind and I recommend you do too! I’m a sucker for unreliable characters full of secrets and this book delivered me plenty of both. Definitely grab yourself a copy when it comes out this December! 5/5 stars.

I was so excited to read this and I'm so glad I got the chance. Although my expectations were low, I was actually surprised by how good this book. It had twists and turns I didn't see coming. I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend.

I'm not an experienced reader of psychological thrillers, so this book kept me wondering until the very last page. I almost don't know how to write about this because I don't want to give anything away. All I know is that I had a hard time putting this down, and YIKES!!!!

Hmmm.. this book was interesting. It surprised me many times. I really enjoyed the first half but when I saw the turn it was taking, I was apprehensive. I definitely finished the story and the ending was good, just a bit weird. I enjoyed Fisher’s writing style.

I was really looking forward to digging into THE WIVES, but in the end, this book was really not for me. Three women clamoring to be with one really crappy guy? No thanks. I also really disliked the turn with the main character. At times, it felt like the author was trying to infuse a feminist perspective into the narrative, but it consistently falls apart. As someone who was a huge fan of HBO's Big Love, I started this expecting something completely different. Came away disappointed and frustrated.

My expectations of The Wives wasn’t high. I thought it was going to be a typical psychological thriller. I should have known from the blurb that wasn’t the case. I loved the twisted journey that this book took me on!!

The plotline of The Wives was full of twists and turns. What I loved about this book was how the author cast doubt on all the main characters. I also liked how she did lightning-fast shifts in the plotline. It was amazing to read and kept my attention to the stories.

I loved Thursday, but I didn’t understand why she would stay in a relationship where she saw her husband once a week. I am not well versed in polygamous/polyamorous relationships, but that scream something was off to me. I loved her slow descent into insanity. There were scenes where I wanted to scream, “No, don’t!!”

I didn’t like Seth. He was responsible for what happened. But, at the same time, I felt terrible for him. He had a hellacious childhood and was scarred by that. He did try to help, but it was too little too late.

Regina was a mystery for the entire book. I couldn’t quite get a handle on her. She had an agenda and was going to carry it out. I do think that she got what she deserved in the end. How she got it, though, I didn’t agree with.

The mystery/thriller/suspense angle of the book was well written. I will say that this book played major mind games with me for the entire book!! Which, again, kept me glued to it. I needed to see what happened.

The end of the book was insane. I couldn’t believe the twists in the plot that were revealed. The major one shocked the heck out me. The other twist that involved Regina shocked me. Mainly because of what happened.

I began this book with a bit of hesitancy, as I wasn't sure I wanted to read about multiple wives and complicated relationships. If you are feeling the same way, I emphatically say, "Read this book!"

The story is told through the "Thursday" wife's POV, aptly named Thursday. I was immediately drawn into her strange relationship with her husband, Seth. As the other two wives (Monday & Tuesday) are introduced, the suspense, intrigue, and plot twists ramp up. The story definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending did not disappoint! I highly recommend for fans of suspenseful, psychological thrillers!

As I turned the last page and took a moment to reflect on the journey I just took, I had to search for my adult words. I realized I felt deeply disturbed, highly unsettled, and overall icky. Yes, that's it, I felt icky! There are no likable or reliable characters here, although Thursday comes pretty close. You can feel for her and sypmathize - if not empathize - with her. I spent 75% of this book wondering what the hell was going on and who I could trust or believe. And I loved every moment of it. While I'm sure Tarryn Fisher is a lovely woman, if she were my bestie, I'd be side-eying her constantly, wondering what was going through her brain. Because to come up with the storylines she does...well, it just ain't right!!! I always know coming out of one of her books that I'm going to be gobsmacked (am I allowed to use that word if I'm not British???), awestruck, and exhausted. And this one does everything to live up to that expectation!

Quick background before things get started. I have read nearly everything (didn’t move past the first Never Never (if you know me you know I don’t generally do series/serials so that’s not a huge shocker) and the blurb for Folsom didn’t really appeal to me so I haven’t picked that one up yet). Buuuuut Tarryn Fisher is an author who makes me break my own rules and I have read past #1 in a series when it was her writing it and her stuff is all purple (or at least lavender) which frequently makes me get an eye twitch and yet somehow she gets a pass and on and on and on. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut (longer but that time) don’t mistake me for some rabid fangirl. My ratings regarding her stories run the gamut. However, I’m first in line to buy them and yes I said BUY meaning I let the moths out of the handbag whenever there’s a new release because somehow the library hasn’t realized I need instant gratification despite all of my fit throwing and I know even if I don’t like whatever the new release is, it will still be different from what nearly any other author I happen to be reading at the time has written.

All of the above was mentioned because this was the first advanced copy I have ever received of one of Fisher’s books and my reaction was pretty much like a bunch of schoolteachers getting a free car on the Oprah show. Not only because I’m an instant one-clicker when it comes to her stuff, but also because this story? Oh, it’s one of my most favorite guilty pleasure obsessions (along with hoarders). The difference this time???? Rather than sharing all their Big Love . . . . (See what I did there? Since it's about polygamy?) . . .

Yes please.

You see, there are a Monday and a Tuesday as well. They just don’t know each other. But when information is literally dropped into “Thursday’s” lap via a scrap of paper regarding a woman named Hannah, she can’t help but do a little investigating. And when Hannah exhibits the signs of an abused spouse, Thursday feels like she needs to dig a little further into all of her husband’s marriages – including her own.

Confession: I literally redecorated my deck in order to read this. I’d say it was just a coincidence, but I for real had this book for a week or two waiting on a break in the weather so I could take my coffee outside and just let Tarryn Fisher’s crazy take me wherever it wanted to go. And lemme tell you – I can’t (a/k/a won’t) spoil things, but right about the halfway part I was like . . . . I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.

If you pick this up and think it’s a bit of a slow roller, I advise you to hang in there. I was sucked in right from the start, but the second half is where this baby delivers. 4 Stars worth of crazy yumminess!

This book was great! I didn't know which wife to really latch on to. Having the spin on a polygamy family but very non traditional. He kept things the way he wanted, the wives were not allowed to meet. In fact they were in different cities. He split his week between the ladies and wife #2 had Thursday. I felt like I was in the story trying to help wife #2. The author really did a nice job at grabbing you in right away. I couldn't wait to finish the book.

This novel started out so well for me. I was hooked. Totally with the main character(Thursday) on learning who her husband’s other wives were. Then around the 50% mark, the plot took a twist for the worse. I no longer enjoyed it. I couldn’t trust Thursday and honestly stopped caring about her husband gaslighting her. 10/10 for the first half, 3/10 for the second.

This page turner keeps you in suspense up until the very end. Great character development. Twisty plot. Makes one wonder how far one would go if they didn’t trust their husband.

Well, I don’t know where to start. This book was amazingly disturbing in the best kind of way. Thursday is one of Seth’s wives and is definitely curious about the others. That curiosity leads her down a crazy path that has her and the reader questioning everything. It’s hard to figure out what’s real and who to believe. I absolutely loved this book, so much that I finished at 4 in the morning. It’s that good!

This book made me anxious and angry and not in a "I want to see what happens!" way. It felt like some weird abuse/cuckhold erotica. I hated the narrator and how she just let her husband get away with treating her and her sister-wives the way he did. One minute she's talking about how ok with their situation she is and the next she's digging through his other lives. And then there is the whole situation where they are "polygamists" but no one else knows (including one of the other wives?). I thought that was called cheating.

Two star because the writing wasn't terrible, just the story. Can't win them all.

Not my cup.of tea, gaslighting is my least favorite troupe. I am not a fan of unreliable narrators either.

I don't know what I was,expecting but it wasnt this book! It was so good! Its rare that a book keeps me guessing until the final page but this one did! Even when I thought I had figured it out it threw me for a conplete loop. And then you think its over but nope! Way to write a book that kerps me entertained and has a,solid plot that twists and turns too many times to count!

I want to start this review off by saying that I did not see that ending coming. Usually I pride myself on having a really good idea of what the end result would be, but this? This surprised me. In fact, I may even say that I was happily surprised. (Which, if you read this book, it probably sounds odd that I am happily surprised. Perhaps I just like being caught off guard? Eh, who knows.)

To start off, the thought of my husband having two other wives is so far fetched for me. Mostly because I don't know how he handles dealing with me on a good day let alone how he would deal with two other women. So, when I read the synopsis for The Wives I knew I had to read it. You could say my interest was piqued.

I found myself incredibly invested in this story. Everything about this book interested me: the polygamy, hiding the truth, the stalking, the outright lies. Not to mention, the author is an incredible writer. It was easy to follow along and it painted a vivid mental picture. There is a little bit of action that keeps you on your toes. I couldn't help but have to know what happened next.

Lastly, that ending, wow. I will admit, I did not see that coming and I was impressed. It left me completely rethinking the entire book, but in a good way. I would definitely recommend this book.
