An appropriate biography for early elementary students, David Bowie gives basic facts about the childhood of David and how his dream of becoming a music star inspired him to work hard to reach his goal.

This latest installment of the Little People, Big Dreams happened to be my introduction to the rest of the series. I'm an immediate fan of this very simple yet eloquent biography library. I understand that not every children's book necessarily needs a rolled-in lesson or message but these stories lend themselves to planting seeds in young ones' hearts of admirable traits/qualities that can take them far in life. In my opinion, I believe these petite but powerful stories would be most enjoyed by 6 to 8 year olds.

This book is very simple and easy to understand for most children who can read. I liked that the book was illustrated but also included photos in the end. This is a great series and I'm glad to see David Bowie included.

Daughter 5 and me loved the book: the illustrations and the simple words that still are able to let the life story of David Bowie become alive.

I love this series! Informative and fun! You and your children will both learn something. This is a great way for your children to learn an interest in reading while learning about peoples.

This was a short and sweet non-fiction book about the life of the fabulous singer/songwriter and legend, David Bowie. Part of the series, ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS’, this is the second one I’ve read.

The wonderful illustrations in the book really complemented the text and I am sure both adults and small children will delight in this book as much as I did!

If you're a Bowie fan this would be a perfect gift for your little reader! Rating: 5 Stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the complimentary ARC. This is my honest and totally voluntary opinion.

My little girl really loves the Little People Big Dreams books and this one was no exception. The illustrations are beautiful and she loved David Bowie's outfits in the pictures. She wanted to dress up like him! She didn't completely grasp all of it (she's 5) but it was written a way that makes it easier for children to understand. I think it's so important to teach our children to dream big and these books are perfect for showing them what people can achieve.
Thankyou to netgalley and the publisher for my copy in exchange for my honest review

Another very similar book to the other ones in the series. I can only say the same things that I've already told about these books: very sweet and very good for teaching little kids about famous people who did something great. In this book I particularly loved how little David's difference from other kids/people and his weirdness is communicated as both something very normal and awesome. Another book I would recommend to anyone who has preschoolers.

Book 30, of this phenomenal series is one to add to your collection. David Bowie's character and talent is portrayed so that a new generation can begin to understand his greatness and his exceptional contributions to the music world.

Comfortable in his own skin, and secure in his musical abilities, David had creative, innovative, and sometimes outlandish ideas that he expressed through his songs, dance moves and fashion style. His ability to keep re-inventing himself kept him in the forefront for 40 years.

"David Bowie" encourages and inspires kids to celebrate exactly who they are. His desire even as a young boy was to be a star and "that one day all the lonely kids on the Planet would sing his songs out loud. He also knew that a great singer needed to be a great performer, too. "
" He inspired generations of fans to find their own voice and dare to be different."

The illustrations are quirky and the author has added extra facts at the back of the book including a biographical timeline of David's life including historical photos. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

A fitting tribute to one of the most important artists ever to grace planet Earth. The educational but age-appropriate text is intriguing, and the engaging artwork captures Bowie's ability to look completely different from his last incarnation but remain utterly and completely himself. This is a terrific book that shows kids that following your passions and being brave enough to be different are wonderful things.

My thanks to Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick biography on David Bowie that would be a great read aloud for younger kids since it does not have a lot of text. It shows how he composed his songs and what a unique person he was.

I love this Little People series covering the life of notable figures, this one is more unique than most that i've covered in that it covers being yourself and I think that's true to Bowie's legacy.

"And by never being afraid to be himself, little David became the most unique star who ever fell to Earth."

This is another from the "little people, BIG DREAMS" collection for kids. They fall into the category of biography and history, as most of those featured made their mark some time ago.

David Bowie had a pretty normal start to life, and the illustrations show him as just one of the kids. My Goodreads review includes a few illustrations, for which I'll copy the captions here.

He especially loved music and dance, but apparently his teachers thought his dancing was "unusual", to say the least.

In fact, everything about young David was unusual! His teachers weren't sure if he was a boy or a girl.

If you were as startled as I was to see two bright eyes in the earlier pictures, this one explains what happened. One eye was so damaged from a punch in a fight that the pupil stayed enlarged, making it look a different colour.

There is more about his progress through the world of music, but it's the out-of-this-world "A Space Oddity" that was a major hit. I bet most people reading this review can hear "Ground Control to Major Tom . . . " in their minds. It was released just before the 1969 Moon Landing.

[This book doesn't mention (why not?) that astronaut Chris Hadfield recorded and broadcast it from the International Space Station in 2013 as the first music video shot in space. There was some consternation about who owned or controlled what rights because it was outside the jurisdiction of any country, however the problem was apparently happily resolved. But I digress, sorry.]

He kept reinventing himself with costumes, hair changes, styles.

It's not until the closing article, with accompanying photographs, that the word 'chameleon' is used, but it's no exaggeration when trying to describe the phenomenon that was David Bowie.

There is one illustration of his wife, Iman, but no mention of her except in the photographic credits.

For a little fellow, he sure did have big dreams. He took a lot of us along for the ride, and we loved him for it.

The last pages of these books are factual accounts, in more adult language, with a few photographs and dates to help fill in the gaps. The illustrations are bright and fun and will help kids understand what an interesting, inventive performer Bowie was.

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for the preview copy of the just-released book. It's a worthy addition to the collection, and I think a lot of adults will particularly enjoy this one.

'David Bowie (Little People, Big Dreams)' by Ma Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Ana Albero is a read aloud book about a famous pop star.

David Bowie was born to a normal family, but even in childhood, he was anything but normal. He loved music and dance, but had his own ideas about what that looked like. He grew up liking rock and jazz and that would influence his later music. He had his own fashion style. A fight with a friend left him with a permanently dilated pupil that gave him a strange look. His career took off when he wrote Space Oddity and decided to keep reinventing himself.

I loved the last line of this book: "And by never being afraid to be himself, little David became the most unique star who ever fell to Earth."

These books really get the essence of who they are about. The illustrations in this one are great and have hints about who David Bowie would become sprinkled in the drawings. Included is a timeline with pictures of David Bowie.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Childrens, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I’m excited to share this fantastic little book with my little one so she can appreciate the wonder that is David Bowie. This book is beautiful and vibrant just like the man himself. I love how it shows little ones the importance of being yourself and of being true to yourself and that it’s ok to stand out in your own way. Perfect illustrations, highly recommend to everyone.

This series can be hit and miss, but this is amazing, pitched perfectly for a young audience, it’s inspirational, beautifully illluatrated and the messaging is spot on. The spirit of David is a lesson we can all learn from.

I love this series of books. I've tried to read each and everyone to my kids, and they're fans as well. my ten year old more so than the little.

Beautiful book in the series. Fun and accessible, not to mention informative and educational. Great addition for a crossover class or team teaching between Music and English. Illustrated beautifully as well.

I love this series and I’m so pleased there are now some books about influential male figures. And I think this one is my favourite so far.

Telling the story of David Bowie in the now familiar accessible picture book style, I enjoyed learning more about his life and it was refreshing to read about a man who didn’t really conform to the gender stereotypes that boys should like sport and construction instead of music and drama.

As always in this series, there is information about further reading and a more ‘adult friendly’ biography at the back of the book. I’m quite looking forward to exploring more about Bowie’s life through these books and I’ll certainly share his story with my class as part of our music lessons.
