Like all Karin Slaughter’s books, this was an entertaining and suspenseful read. It kept me up far past my bedtime wanting to read just one more chapter to see what would happen. This is another Will Trent book. I don’t think I’ve read them all, and maybe not even in the right order. But the way Slaughter writes them, you don’t need to have read the others to be able to enjoy this one. Trent and gf Sara Linton are caught up in a terrifying scenario dealing with hate groups in America and domestic terrorism. What makes this book stand out from other thrillers in the genre is the way Slaughter has woven in topical politics from today. Scarily, we know these groups exist and indeed have increased in volume as of late. Domestic terrorism is an issue in the US. So to take these two scary topics and combine them into one nonstop plot made for a thrilling but disturbing and thought provoking book. Definitely recommend for your summer reading!

I could not wait to read the newest Will Trent book, and Karin delivered again. I was so excited because the last couple of standalones I was not very happy with. It hurts my heart to have said that, but they did not grab me right away. This book is different! Do not go in thinking you will read a little here, and a little there. Once you get started, hang on for a wild ride because you will not want to put this one down. One thing I enjoyed from the book that was very unique, and I was not sure how I felt about it at first, the story told the events from each character's POV. It was neat to hear everyone's thoughts at the same time and on what was happening to them personally. I feel this added a depth to the story. It made me feel more invested in the characters and what was going on. This is a book I will highly recommend. Five Gold Stars!

This is the first Trent series book that I have read. I really loved the twisty story dealing with white supremacy group. I felt that it was very timely for today's world. I think I will try other books in this series because i really liked the characters. I have ordered this book for the library as I have many patrons that are fans of this author.

The latest in the series of Will Trent books by Karin Slaughter brings back the team of Dr. Sara Linton and GBI Agent Will Trent. Once coworkers, they have become romantically entangled. This book will test the strength of that relationship.

When Will and Sara rush to the scene of an explosion in the area of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, they come upon an accident with injuries. But what they find is more than an accident related to the explosion. The actual bombing assailants are involved in the incident. Will is injured in the scuffle and Sara is taken hostage during their attempts to stop the perpetrators.

About a month earlier, Michelle Spivey, a scientist who works at the Center for Disease Control, was also kidnapped. There are no clues to the identity of her abductors. However, following the bombing, and with the capture of one of the men involved in the bombing, it is determined that she has been kidnapped by the same group that has taken Sara.

The group is consequently identified as the IPA, a rogue terrorist cult/group with a leader by the name of Dash. The group is hiding somewhere in an unknown location in the mountains. The group's purpose is unknown but is certain to be deadly. Will goes undercover with the intentions of uncovering their plans. However, his primary goal is to find Sara and make sure she is safe.

Slaughter begins the book at a slow pace as both Will and Sara relate incidents that happen before the bombing. Each tells the same story from his/her own point of view. This literary tool sets the tone of the book since their personal lives, relationships, and futures are very much in danger. The tempo of the plot then gathers speed as the story continues in the alternating voices of Will and Faith with the GBI, and Sara with the IPA members until it reaches a terrifying ending when the terrorist plot begins to materialize.

The indoctrination of young men, especially those with a military bent or those who are naïve and adrift, brings members into the IPA and instills them with the cult mentality that is necessary to participate in the IPA. Terrorism, white supremacy, pedophilia, rape, and male sexism are the ideals that prevail among the ranks of the IPA. Violence along with biological and chemical warfare are the methods the group has chosen to use to create a new and improved world. All of these elements combine to make the book raw and disturbing.

The characters are real in their emotions and the descriptive detail gives life to the story. And it is apparent that Slaughter has completed some research since she presents an especially authentic look at life in the IPA camp and at their motivations for their radical plot. But be forewarned that many parts of the book are graphic with quite a bit of violence and gore.

With this entry into the Will Trent Series, Slaughter has written a thought provoking, gritty, entertaining, and page turning thriller that progresses rapidly to a satisfying conclusion.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book.

I enjoyed this book about a young doctor kidnapped during an extremist group's terrorist activities. Her boyfriend, who seems to be on the spectrum, goes undercover to help rescue her but ultimately they have to work together to get out alive. Engrossing - but I did strongly prefer "Pieces of Her", the author's previous title.

I love Karin Slaughter books, and have read many, but this is the first Wil Trent book I have read. That being said, I was happy to find you didn’t end to read the others beforehand.
Wonderful and timely book. Found myself thinking how easily this cud have, and found myself wondering not f but when.
Sara Linton and Will Trent are literally in a fight for their lives. Throw in domestic terrorism, deadly diseases, and white supremacy, and you have an excellent thriller.

Frightening book about a white supremacy terrorist group. Good characterization and a compelling story line.

Set in Atlanta and a nearby forest, this book features Sara Linton and Will Trent. There are a lot of twists in the story as they seek to identify who is behind a bombing on a nearby campus. Highly recommended.

Sara has been abducted by a white supremacy group and Will Trent will do anything to find and rescue her. The group is planning a big attack that needs to be stopped, but no one knows what their plan is. Sara will have to be strong if she wants to live long enough to be rescued.

This book is part of a series but it can be read as a stand alone. It will grab you from the first page. This book has a complicated plot with a lot of twists and turns, and there are a lot of evil characters. The tone of the book was very dark. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This is my first Karin Slaughter novel. It grabbed me from the first page and I was well into the story before I realized it was part of a series. The characters were so well drawn, I didn't need to know all their complicated backstories to enjoy the book. I didn't know it was Will Trent #9 until now, when I looked up the title to write a review.
Sara, the woman Will loves, is kidnapped by a white nationalist group. Will works relentlessly to rescue her and goes under cover to find Sara. The plot is fast paced and violent.
I'm going back to look for Will Trent 1 - 8!

Karin Slaughter never fails to write thrillers that rope me in and keep me turning the pages long into the night. Will and Sara are two of my favorite characters. They are realistically flawed. I love the. Way Karin Slaughter develops their personalities to the point where I feel as if they are beloved friends. I know The Last Widow will be a favorite at our library.

I have long since stopped being any where near critical of Karin Slaughter's work. I mean, I hope to enjoy it but if she's writing it, I'm buying it. I'm probably going to hoard it for a few weeks and then when i read it, I'm probably gonna piecemeal and parse it out so it doesn't go too quickly....
it took me a minute to warm up to her dark and grisly style, but I tell you there is nothing like a Karin Slaughter book, and maybe it's because we get new installments in the Wil Trent series so infrequently but I absolutely LOVE a new Wil Trent book. He's so brilliant but broken and Sara is the salve that soothes his soul. They are good for each other. The backdrop of tragedy wraps about these two realizing what they truly mean to each other. Satisfied sigh when it's over.
The rest of the story is textbook Slaughter. Some people die, a lot of bad stuff is happening, Amanda is pacing the hall in heels and barking at people. i frigging love that woman, the old bat.
If you've read and loved Karin Slaughter, get this one and put it in your face. It's ultra good.

This thrilling tale of abduction keeps you on the edge of your seat! If you are a fan of Karin Slaughter, you will not be disappointed. While part of a series, this tale easily stands alone. Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys FBI drama and action.

This author has a great way with dialogue. The conversations between the characters feel and sound very real, and often are very funny, which can be a great relief during the very stressful and nail-biting scenes. The villains and plot are ripped straight from the headlines, and almost too plausible to enjoy with any level of detachment at times. Our patrons will love this one. I'll be ordering multiple copies.

I enjoyed this book a great deal. I have always enjoyed Will. He is a dynamic character who has so many human flaws but you truly feel for him. Sara is not my favorite character for many reasons. Primarily I feel that she is often inflexible, but that is my personal understanding of the character. I enjoyed the opportunity to delve into each characters genuine innermost feeling for each other. What a great read!!!

I enjoyed this novel in the end, but I found the narrative technique very off-putting at the beginning. Slaughter used alternating narrators and often overlapped the timelines of that narration. At the beginning of the novel, when some of the characters were in the same scenes, this meant one scene was a repeat of the last, with identical dialogue and action, just a few internal thoughts of the particular narrator. I nearly put the book down in the first thirty or forty pages because of this. Later, as the characters were in different physical locations, this technique was more effective. Aside from this, the novel was an enjoyable thriller.

Another suspenseful novel by Karin Slaughter. Will and Sara on the way to help others after an explosion leads to the kidnapping of Sara. Will goes undercover to find her and the folks responsible for the bombing...uncovers an even bigger plot of mayhem and madness. Will they make it out together and stay together? Read it and find out.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the opportunity to read #TheLastWidow.
The Will Trent series is a solid mystery thriller that Karin Slaughter has been writing for a while. I have to say I haven't read them all, but this one is action packed. The kidnapping, explosion, and undercover plot are what keep you turning page after page. Please check this one out even if you haven't read this series before! You can read it as a stand alone if you want too.
