It felt like the blurb for this book was slightly misleading. While it did explain how Oscar finally managed to fully integrate himself into his new life in America, there was very little detail of how his teacher actually impacted on his education and within just a few chapters, he was leaving school and living his adult life.

The writing style is also quite difficult to read. There was lots of repetition and the text was littered with bible references, which although maybe relevant to certain events in the story, got to feel a little overbearing at times.
