I really enjoyed this story of Lucy's trudge through life. Struggling with huge debts, she still wants to do the right thing when an envelope stuffed with cash appears following the bus ride home from work. It's not just a story about human character (what would you do - hand it in or spend it?) but also a psychological thriller. It starts off with just a feeling of being watched and escalates from there.

It's not the longest book, but definitely one you'll find hard to put down. I had several guesses along the way and one of them was right, but there was more to it than I'd guessed. The whole storyline was totally feasible, which is the scariest type in my mind. A good ending too.

You live in a crappy flat. You have to drag yourself to your crappy job every day on a bus you can barely afford to pay for, but it pays (some) of the bills so you have no choice. Thank God for the best friend you have ever had, Billy. Your faithful dog. He makes the sun appear from behind the clouds every time you come home. And I know that feeling. A dog really, really is a (wo)man’s best friend. 😊

But one day, when Lucy, our main character, gets of a busy Friday night bus, she finds something in her bag she never thought she would find in there: an envelope filled with money. Who left it here and why?

What would you do if you were in Lucy’s shoes? Would you do the right thing and take it to the police? But would you not insult the benefactor, because after all they gave it to you. Isn’t it yours to treat yourself and make your live a bit easier? Or was it rather someone who dropped it by accident and is going to get it back one way or another?

Should she be afraid or should she just enjoy this strike of luck? She will soon find out. The question is will she like the outcome…?

I totally enjoy this author’s stories. I always have the feeling that even after everything is revealed, some of the characters are still hiding something. Do I mind? No, because it leaves me wondering for days and make up my own explanation. 😊

I wonder though whether the murder was necessary? Not every thriller needs one in my opinion. The ‘problem’ could have been dealt with in an other way too. But it’s the author’s choice and maybe he used it to paint a more cruel picture of the culprit. In that case I understand it better.

Good book. 5 stars

Thank you

I can’t help but get frustrated when I finish one of Kerry’s books as I then have to wait ages for him to release another so I can read another! I’m an avid fan and this was no different. The characters are believable and you warm to them, you can feel like your with them as the story unfolds and you’re not left in bewilderment as to the implausibility of what’s happening because you know full-well it could happen.

Brilliant read! Kerry Wilkinson is consistently fantastic in every title I have read! This is no exception. A really interesting premise which leads to one of the best thrillers i have read to date!

A nice story with some strange things happening to Lucy. I was a bit disappointed in the end sadly. Wishing for it to be better.

Disappointing book. Usually love his books. I was put off by the dig at President Trump. I can not recommend this book

I was drawn into this story, I found myself completely connected with the characters and the story. I couldnt stop reading and turning the pages. Lots of secrets unravelled. Even though I did guess what was happening it still held my interest. I really connected with Lucy. Cant wait to read more of his books.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc, which I have enjoyed reading. I also bought the book on Amazon before I realised I had it already in Kindle.
When I first started reading the book I thought the main character Lucy was just angry at the life she was forced to live, but then realised she was just trying to survive on a day by day existence. It was her boyfriend, Ben who had forced her to live like that because of the debts he left behind in Lucy’s name after he died. Her life looks to an onlooker as sheer drudgery, she works in a small supermarket for minimum wages. She has a dog and lives in a small flat. She does have friends and surprisingly has a new boyfriend for a short period. She finds money left in her bag one day after she has been on her usual bus on her way home.
That is the start of her story and the book A Face in the Crowd by Kerry Wilkinson. It was an intriguing storyline and I really enjoyed reading this book.
Highly recommended.

I received a digital arc of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved a previous book I read by Kerry and this was no different. I couldn't put it down! There were so many questions that I was trying to answer before it was all revealed. Great suspense built throughout the book, and the ending was great. Will definitely read more by Kerry Wilkinson again.

I LOVED this book. I liked Lucy's character a lot and was rooting for her all through the book. I really enjoyed the morality aspect of the story line and thought the story was excpetionally well crafted. It was very fast paced with the sharp chapters. It’s a good psychological mystery with a unique premise that many will find engrossing and I would highly recommend.

Ich kann mich den positiven Rezensionen nicht anschließen.
Das Buch holt mich nicht ab. Netter Schreibstil, aber der reisst es auch nicht raus.
Langweilig und Zeitverschwendung.

This book is stunningly good and had me hooked from the first page.
We encounter Lucy and Ben in the opening chapter of A Face in the Crowd. He is about to set off on a money making venture that will make their dreams come true.
In the next chapter, the narrative has moved on 5 years. Ben is dead and Lucy is living a miserable existence. She has no money as Ben used her identity to get loans which she has had to repay after his death. On the bus one night, Lucy finds an envelope in her bag containing over £3000. Should she keep it as she is so desperate? Who put it there?
It was so easy to get caught up in Lucy’s story and feel desperately sorry for her at being lumbered with debts that weren’t hers. The characterisation and emotional impact of her story really carries the whole book in a superb way.
The dilemma of whether to keep the money is one that we can all imagine. ‘Find a penny, pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck’ and I always thank my good fortune of finding a coin on the floor. But £3000 is a lot of money. For Lucy it means that she could finally eat proper meals, replace her ruined shoes, even go on a date…
The mystery of who put the money there and why was an intriguing plotline. Lucy is unsure who she can trust except her beloved dog Billy. This meant that we as readers were also distrusting of the other characters.
I felt that the ending twist was a little obvious but this didn’t spoil the book at all for me as the growing anticipation and the connection I felt with Lucy kept it dramatic.
I can’t believe I haven’t read any of Kerry Wilkinson’s other books but I’ll be searching for them from now on!

I have read all of Kerry's books, and once again I was not disappointed. He takes the reader on a thriller of a ride, not letting go until you collapse of exhaustion at the end of the book!
Recommended for anyone who loves a good read!
