Shaman Durek offers an interesting and somewhat unique point of view on energy work, spirituality, and shamanism. Not all of the author's advice with resonate or work for everyone, but it was interesting to read and some of the exercises (in specially marked boxes throughout the book), were especially interesting and helpful to explore.

Life can be challenging and it sends people looking for answers when the truth is what they seek is inside of themselves, they just need to learn how to access it. This book is a deep look into helping one connect with and utilizing that which cannot be seen while asking to have faith in the unknown. Written in a style that gives as good as it gets, the book is filled with no nonsense and gives an honest look at a subject that may be uncomfortable for some but definitely worth reading. If you are looking for assistance with shifting your thoughts and improving your situation, then this is one book for you. I volunteered to read a copy of this book provided by Netgalley.

There are few words that I could type would completely encompass the power of this book.

There is immense strength in slowing down and giving undivided attention to what truly matters in life.

Now, this book will not provide the answers the title claims. There is nothing even remotely close to 'hacking' one's spiritual health. This one thing I didn't like. (Even though the term drew me to the book, it is misleading.)

Durek has a conversational tone, which appealed to me.

Recommended to readers who enjoying obtaining different, be they controversial or traditional, on the concept personal empowerment.

Such an interesting and inspirational read that talks about slowing down and focusing on what really matters. I don't think we can ever hear that enough. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Spirit Hacking claims to have the answers that we seek in terms of improving our lives and the ways we react to difficulties in our lives. While I appreciated the directness of the shaman’s words, the modern euphemisms ensure the book will be dated by its language. I agree with the underlying message, that we have the ability to change how we react to situations, thereby changing the outcomes, but this book was difficult for me to get through.

This book didn't work for me. I didn't mind the modern, casual tone. I didn't even mind the fluent use of the vernacular. I did, however feel that the author held himself up a bit too high in regard and appeared to look down on everyone else. I could have done without the rants on "new-agers" and "bobbleheads" and preferred he stuck with what I chose the book for, learning to move into the liminal spaces. Instead I got something too preachy for my personal tastes.

This book will register well with a select few, but none that run in my circles.

I find that often self-help books offer the same advice across books. However, I always enjoy them if they reiterate important or helpful tips in a new an different way. This book does just that. The author's modern and casual tone didn't always work for me, but I can see how it would speak loudly to others.

Spirit Hacking is a great introduction to a particular type of Shamanism and a great reminder of what positivity, love, unselfishness and tolerance can do to enrich our lives, the lives of those around us, and the world in general. The discussions on the current state of the world, dark and light energies, and nature are fascinating. The tone of the book is very "hip" and direct, and very approachable. Durek provides guidance for living a more spiritual (authentic) life in the form of different meditative style exercises that you can easily do to create awareness of the spiritual world and manifest the life you desire.

This was, to me, a very interesting book about slowing down and focusing on what actually matters in your life. It's definitely easy to get swept away in the go-go-go of modern life and we forget to stop and enjoy the moments as they happen. Spirit Hacking also introduced me to some of the basics of shamanism, which I was completely unfamiliar with up to this point. I'm really looking forward to reading more. I've ordered a couple copies for my library since we have a very strong readership for the spiritual books. Thank you so much

Shaman Durek gives modern language to ancient secrets in his book Spirit Hacking. His attempt to get "bobbleheads" to move away from the distractions of a complicated life and to connect with their spirit and ancestors is a noble goal. Shaman Durek's writing is easy to follow for a younger generation, but at times it does read a bit like a conversation on facebook about "sheeple." Still, the techniques are sound and the information solid. This is a great book for someone just coming into their own spiritual practice and exploration.
