Nautical Quilts was such a well-illustrated and instructional book!! I"m sorry to say that when I went back to try some of the other designs it had expired and was unable to access the book. Wish it had been available in ebook format.

Synopsis:
A brand new collection of beautiful quilted and stitched projects by internationally-renowned designer, Lynette Anderson. Lynette brings her distinctive style of patchwork mixed with exquisite hand embroidery and applique to the theme of nautical quilts. This subject was inspired by her own family history and her grandfather's career in the navy, giving it a very personal flavour.

Nautical Quilts: 12 Stitched and Quilted Projects Celebrating the Sea from Lynette Anderson is the type of craft book I like with projects from large to small.

I initially wanted to look at this book as a potential gift for a friend. Turns out she will be getting a copy. I don't do big projects, I have neither the skills nor the desire to tackle them, which is why I particularly like this book. The small projects are the kind I can imagine giving to friends and family as gifts. Whether I have lived in a coastal area or inland, there are almost always at least a few friends who have some sort of nautical decorating some place in their home. I know three people off the top of my head where I live that have nautical themed guest bathrooms, and a couple of these projects would be ideal for them.

I found the explanations and instructions to be good and straightforward so even a novice like myself could follow them. A friend of mine who does more of this kind of thing liked that they seemed to be open to modification by those with more skill and experience.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes to do quilting and/or stitching projects. These are ideal for oneself or as gifts, the same can be said of the book itself.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

This book is for anyone that loves a blue and white or nautical decorating theme. The quilts in this book are traditional in style and not that exciting.
However, the smaller projects that include embroidery and or appliqué
are quite eye catching and attractive. The photos are pretty and the diagrams are helpful. There are detailed instructions and patterns for each project.
Included are lists of supplies and some basic instructions for beginners tackling these projects. Some of the projects are small and quite portable.
They are great for working on in planes or traveling by car. What fun to come home from vacation with a completed project!

These are so cute! Despite the title, not all of these patterns are for quilts, but utilize quilting techniques. There are plenty of smaller patterns for book covers and the like which are not as daunting to the casual sewer. There still are quilts for those who want them, but I was more impressed with the individual blocks and smaller projects. I really enjoy embroidery, and seeing hand embroidery added to a book that I expected to be 90% sewing by machine was a great surprise. The embroidery looked easy enough to do, and suited the overall look well. Definitely check it out!

Overall this is a very nice quilting project book if you like nautical themes. It has projects to give your home a beach house vibe. Or if you are lucky, decorate your actual beach house.

The book has some intro pages with basics like materials and tools then jumps right into projects, some big and some small. I don't know if i have the quilting chops to tackle it but there is a nice nautical flags quilt and the instructions even explain what the flags mean for ships! There are some small sewing projects like a pencil case and even some simple embroidery patters.

After the projects section the book has devoted a section to quilting basics, how to use templates, etc. The end of the book are the template files needed for the projects. I received a free e-copy of the book from #netgallery in exchange for an honest review but the hard copy book has the templates at full size so they can be traced or cut out directly.

The projects are: Nautical Flag Quilt, Storm at Sea Picture, Ship Ahoy Needleroll, Ship Ahoy Snip Cover, Far Horizon Duffel Bag, Seagull Quilt, All Aboard Wall Quilt, All Aboard Pillow, Seafarer's Journal, Seafarer's Pencil Case, Sail Away Quilt, Sail Away Pillow

This book includes not only nautical-themed quilts and pillows, but also other items including a journal cover, pencil case, bags and more. As with most crafty books of this type, the basics are covered well along with techniques needed to create these projects. This would be a great fit for the boat or beach loving crafter.

Thank you to F+W Media and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

A brand new collection of beautiful quilted and stitched projects by Lynette Anderson.
Lynette has such an original style to her quilting/patchwork design, it is easy to know and love these new designs. I am inspired to make the wall hanging of the quilt block with a whimsical embroidery design around the outer edge, then framed in a beautiful reclaimed wooden frame.

I will definitely be using this book for more than one design. It will also be a great starting point for anyone who is wanting to take up quilting/patchwork/embroidery. Lynette has a the knack of providing easy and detailed instructions for any project to be undertaken by a beginner. Thankyou.

These patterns are absolutely adorable! I love the continuous theme throughout and the fact that Anderson creates not just the typical square quilt blanket, but also shows you pillows, wall decor, bags, and other fun things to make.

Nautical Quilts is a tutorial quilting pattern guide with templates by Lynette Anderson. Due out 14th May 2019 from Sewandso, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

This book includes 12 full project tutorials with a nautical theme and includes the templates and photographs/diagrams to complete the projects. The table of contents (interactively linked in the ebook version) is followed by a short introduction and materials/preparation section with a list of tools and supplies. The required tools are basic and will already be in most crafter's/fibreartist's workbox.

The projects (60% of the page content) are varied and all are beautiful. They're not all quilts, there are soft furnishings, pictures, a duffel bag (see cover), and a breathtakingly beautiful needleroll which I definitely will be making for myself.

Many of the projects include surface embroidery and embellishment. Materials are listed at the beginning of each project in a sidebar along with measurements in metric (SI) and English/American. All of the templates are provided in the book.

Some of the projects are fairly advanced, especially if the crafter isn't comfortable with surface embroidery and other embellishment handwork. I wouldn't say any of them are beyond the capabilities of a keen beginner though, especially if they have access to a teacher, quilt/fabric shop employee or other knowledgeable quilty friend. There are a number of different techniques used in the projects, including paper piecing, applique, strip piecing and more.

Beautiful collection of projects.

Five stars.
