Met Her Match is an exceptionally enjoyable read. Jude Deveraux has written a romance with an underlying mystery.

This was my first book by the author but I will absolutely read more. This follows the story of Terri and Nate. I’m guessing by what I’ve read that this is a story set in a world of interconnected stand alones. I’ve never read any other books so I’m not sure if they are needed but I definitely feel like the story and world building would have felt deeper and richer if you knew all the players. This was sweet, easy and a little mystery thrown in. It made me want to go sit on a deck by a lake for the day. If you’re looking for a great summer/fall read this is def for you.

I definitely enjoyed this story after some of the heavier reads I’ve done lately. This author writes some fantastic stories and this one did not disappoint. It’s a terrific story and I fell in love with the characters. If this is not on your list to read then you need to add it. It’s a feel good story that will have you never wanting it to end while flipping the pages on your kindle because you are so engrossed in what you are reading.

This is the second book in the Summer Hill series but it can definitely be read as a stand alone novel. If you've read any other books by Deveraux, you're sure to recognize a few names as she often uses the Taggert and Montgomery relatives as one of the main characters. This story actually features Nate Taggert and Terri Rayburn who unexpectedly finds out that Nate is renting her lake house. The lake house that she also resides in which would be less of an issue if she didn't think he was her perfect match and if he wasn't engaged! Engaged to the mayor's daughter no less!
This was an enjoyable small town contemporary romance. Complete with small town gossip, memorable characters, secrets and mysteries, this book has something for everyone. My only complaint was that I thought the ending was a bit too rushed as the characters solved the mystery. But all in all an enjoyable story.

Met Her Match (Summer Hill #2) is full of small-town gossip, devilishly crafted characters, lots of secrets, and romance. There is mystery, and twists that round this book out and keeps the reader wondering what is going on in the seeming near-perfect fictional town of Summer Hill. I say near-perfect because there is lots of angst and tension between the three groups of people in the town, the wealthy townspeople, the summer lake people and the working-class people who run the resort of Kissel Lake.

Met Her Match is my first book by Jude Deveraux, and I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I did not have the pleasure to read the first book in this series, but I do plan to go back and fix that little misstep. I don't feel that you have to read the first book as the author did an excellent job in explaining the history of Summer Hill.

Jude Deveraux's writing style is spot-on; she made me feel as if I was part of this small town, and I could be best friends with the main character, Terri Rayburn. Terri has had to deal with the cruel gossip about her missing mother her whole life. This gossip has in turn been put upon her. In spite of this, Terri has become a strong, self-reliant woman who held fast to her beliefs and morals.

Terri returns from a short business trip to find the very handsome Nate Taggert living in her home. Together they figure out that Nate's uncle Kit was the one that arranged for Nate to live in Terri's house. Nate is the total package. He is a good looking, strong, intelligent man, with principles. After some very heated back and forth banter between the two Terri decides to let Nate stay in her house. There is an immediate attraction, but Nate being the great guy that he is tells Terri he is engaged. His fiancé happens to have gone to high school with Terri. But she is just not just any girl; she is the perfect, sweet, beautiful Stacy Hartman, who happens to be in Italy for two weeks. Over two weeks, Terri and Nate fall into an easy friendship that is full of sexual tension. Ahh, but don't be fooled, this book is so much more than a simple taboo romance. There are decades-old secrets, and twists and turns I didn't see coming. The supporting cast of "characters" were excellent, and I want to know more about them. The balance of tone is perfect in the book. At times the book had me smiling and laughing, and other times there was some intense darkness that had me wanting to give Terri a big mom hug.

I look forward to catching up with the first book in this series, The Girl from Summer Hill, and looking forward to reading future books in the series.

This was a fun read! When you look up the title on Goodreads it appears to be a series but I was able to read this as a stand-alone and didn’t realize I was missing any storyline. This is also my first book by Jude Deveraux and she didn’t disappoint! I love the small town charm that this story brought. Everyone knows everyone which also has its downsides for Terri who gets blamed for everything in the town. I loved picturing the cabins by the lake and being brought to that atmosphere. I loved Nate and how protective he was. Despite what the town thinks you can’t help but fall for Terri either. The beginning of the story is more of a romance but then the end of the story brings a mystery and I totally didn’t see the storyline changing the way it did. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a small town romance and mystery!

I felt this story bounced all over the place. I didn’t recall the author as I was reading it and thought it must be a first attempt. I was shocked to see that it was Jude Devereaux . . The characters were not developed and I found myself having to backtrack to remind myself who they were and why they were relevant to the story. What really bothered me was the lack of emotion. Relationships were just ho hum. These characters were completely devoid of strong emotional attachments. You break up one day and it’s no different than wearing a different pair of shoes the next. There was no storyline focus throughout the book and all of a sudden there is a murder plot line with very few pages left in the book. I’ve got many examples of implausible situations and relationships but don’t want to spoil anything. I’ve never provided a review under 4 stars but this felt like a high school writing project.

Sweet, PG-13, modern-day Cinderella, love story with a bit of mystery and suspense. The story begins with Terry, a girl who grew up thinking her mother ran away with another man when she was 2 years old, finding a man staying in her lake-cabin without her permission. She soon finds it that the handsome man is the fiancé of the mayors daughter, who was a popular cheerleader in high school. Terry, on the other hand, spent her teenage years helping run the lake and steering clear of the townies who believed she was like her mother, a “loose girl.” She agrees to let Nate stay, but he has to work for the free lodging until Stacy, his fiancé, returns from an interior design internship in Italy. Together, they run the lake over the next two weeks, and carefully ignore their growing attraction. As Nate learns more about the townies and lake residents, he starts uncovering secrets that could free Terry from the rumors that have controlled her life, but can he control is feelings for her?

Met Her Match is book 2 in the Summer Hill series. I haven’t had a chance to read book one but I didn’t feel lost jumping in with book 2.

As often happens, small towns can have their own version of the truth when it comes to notorious citizens. One of those citizens was Terri Rayburn’s mother. Terri has spent her life minding her own business as she moved through her school years and worked at the lake resort run by her dad. Everything is fine until she meets Nate Taggert, a larger-than-life stranger who shows up unexpectedly in her house. The two have an instant attraction but other circumstances will force them to maintain a distance which will be a challenge.

This is what I like to call a read-by-the-pool contemporary romance. There’s also a mystery thrown in that will keep Nate involved in Terri’s life and perhaps answer some long-held questions. All in all, a fun read that has me wondering where Deveraux will go next with the good people of Summer Hill.

Met Her Match by Jude Deveraux is the 2nd book in her Summer Hill series. Terri Rayburn, our heroine, has lived all her life in the small town of Summer Hill, Virginia, and has learned to put up with the terrible false gossip about her reputation during her younger years. Terri’s mother left town suddenly when she was a young girl, with the townsfolk’s calling her mother a tramp, and unfortunately the sins of the mother was passed over to Terri. She erroneously was blamed for hurting some high school boys, even if it was self defense against their attack, and when she dumped her popular boyfriend, the town blamed her.

A grown-up Terri doesn’t let it bother her, as she is respected for the work, she does to run the Lake Kissel summer resort. When Terri gets back from a vacation, she finds a man living in her house. Nate Taggert, our hero, is planning to move to Summer Hill with his fiancée, but for now his uncle told him to stay at the house on the lake, which has multiple rooms; after a few days, he meets Terri. After a rough start, a friendship begins between Terri and Nate, with both of them helping each other fix all the things happening around the resort, as well as the cabins and land surrounding the lake. Terri begins to feel an attraction to the handsome hunky Nate, but knows he is off limits, especially with his fiancée being the Mayor’s daughter. Nate is very comfortable around Terri, and also begins to feel the attraction to her, but is determined to stay with his fiancée and not let the lust he feels get in the way. In no time, I loved Terri and Nate together and rooted hard for them, knowing that they were had great chemistry, and so perfect for each other.

What follows is a wonderful slow built romance between a couple we loved, and rooted hard for them to recognize that they were destined to be together. Near the last quarter of the book, a mystery about Terri’s mother takes center stage, and the truth will be revealed. Gossip can be very hurtful, especially for the innocent and this story leads to that when people realize that what they thought they knew was not what really happened, and Terri was maligned for no reason. Met Her Match was very well written by Jude Deveraux, and the story line was very well done, with a sweet fun romance and a great couple. I suggest you read Met Her Match.

Tbh, when this book was offered to me, I wasn’t sure I wanted to read it. But then I remembered that I had read a few of Jude Deveraux’s books and always enjoyed them, so I thought what the heck. I am so glad I did! I started the book and could not stop reading until I finished, which is a few hours before I’m suppose to get up. The story draws you in, but characters she builds keep you wanting more. Parts of this I was able to guess, but it was still a welcome surprise when they were confirmed as I read. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

A fun romance novel with a bit of a mystery. Predictable, but amusing.

Terri finds a stranger in her house and soon she and Nate are working side by side and living together as good friends. While Terri is attracted to Nate, she discovers that he has a fiancee and she can't risk ruining her reputation by going after someone else's man.

The antics in the small town add a light tone and there a mystery about Terri's past that resolves at the end of the novel.

So once upon a time, someone had this great idea to set up Nate's brother with a wonderful woman...only the brother didn't act interested at all so Nate decided she was meant for him.... Funny how fate plays a role in things (Or Uncles...)

I enjoyed this story of how Nate meets and how he is drawn to Terri... Her attitude, her self reliance is attractive to him but so is her appreciation of him. Fun beach read with a kick of a mystery as well! I love the dynamics of the small town, the gossip, the character, and the attitudes that are revealed once things everyone has known as facts are found to be false.

Terri has had a rough road, but she is still hard working and loyal to her dad. Because her mom skipped out on her and her dad when she was two, the whole town thinks bad things about Terri. She lives under her mom's shadow. It doesn't help that she hurt two guys in high school.

Nate has had many years of secret adventures that has helped develop his inner strength and integrity. There are several characters I want to know better including Nate's brother, Terri's dad, the main gossipy woman of the story... I could continue on, but let me just add most of the characters are people I want to know better. There are times when the book is really lighthearted and fun...but there are times when the tone is darker, deeper with the insecurities of the main characters.

I requested to review this title from NetGalley because I found the story line to be interesting and fun. Thank you to Jude Deveraux, NetGalley, and Harlequin - MIRA for this advanced reader copy for me to read, enjoy, and review. As always, my opinions are my own.

The story of Terri and Nate.

A love story and a mystery.

They start spending time together when nate ends up staying in Terri's house. They have been set up by his Uncle, even though Nate is engaged to someone else.

Despite how much they are attracted to each other, Nate is taken.

There is also the mystery of what happened to Terri's mother, and why did her boyfried leave town suddenly years ago. If Nate can solve these mysteries can he sort out his life and be with Terri?

This is the first book I've read by this author, and it's very, very much a romance. A very sweet romance with little angst.

While it made a pleasant change not to have any convoluted drama, I must say I found Stacy to be sugary sweet.

Due to the back story of the heroine's mother, there are a number of info dumps, but they worked perfectly fine.

All in all, this is a sweet romance that will appeal to romance lovers who prefer fade to black sex scenes.

I really enjoyed this book. I like that the protagonist is not perfect, she's beautifully flawed. She has a family history, that appears to be less than stellar. I loved that it's part romance, part mystery. I would say, the only negative was the semi-smooth resolution. I would have like to see the separation between Nate and Terri be dragged out a little longer.

**I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

3.5/5 stars.

What a great, refreshing read! I really enjoyed this story. This is the fourth book in the Summerhouse series. I think that any reader would be fine picking up this story though. I laughed out loud quiet a few times reading this. I really liked Nate and Terri's chemistry. Highly recommended!

I have been reading quite a few rather emotionally heavy books recently so it was nice to sit down for a few hours and focus on something a little lighter that would give me a happy ever after ending.

This book is the second in a series about the fictional town of Summer Hill Virginia. I have not read the first book in the series, but the author did include some background information to help lay the groundwork for the story to follow. I suspect it would have been easier if I had read the first book but overall it didn’t make a huge difference.

There is an old adage that the sins of the father are visited upon the son. In this book it appears that the supposed “sins” of the mother have been visited upon her daughter, Terri Rayburn, for many, many years. Terri has learned to live with it feeling completely comfortable in her role of handyperson and general rescuer in the Lake community which her father helped to found. Visits to Summer Hill though leave her with a completely different set of feelings and insecurities.

When Terri returns home from her time away on vacation, she discovers a strange (but very attractive) male has moved into her abode. Her initial instinct is to send him running, but there is something about him that appeals to her and she thinks she may have met a man she could develop a relationship with. She even believes that her relatives may have placed him there in an effort to matchmake. Imagine her shock when she finds out that he is engaged to be married to one of the girls that she went to high school with. She leaves in anger but when he sets out to change her mind by using the skills that he has developed working overseas for the government to lighten her workload, a friendship and working team develop very quickly.

People around are thrilled to see Terri so happy and assume that the couple may be acting on the feelings that seem so obvious to others. In actual fact, they are both doing their best to keep things platonic but as time goes by, Nate discovers that the life his fiancé has planned out for him is not something he thinks he can live with.

Mixed in with the romance of the story is a mystery – whatever became of Terri’s mother Leslie and what happened when Leslie was a teenager that got her suspended from school? Why did she break things off with her high school boyfriend and why did the town condemn her for doing so? Some of the answers were fairly predictable and I drew some accurate conclusions well before the mystery was resolved, there were however, still some surprises in store for me.

Met Her Match draws a clear picture of how within a community there are ”the haves”, and the “have nots” and the tensions that run between them. The story ended fairly abruptly but left itself open for more to come with other characters introduced. I personally found both Terri and Nate very likeable characters and would be willing to read other books in this series.

I was approached by the publicist to read this book based on my interest in their previous women’s fiction and romance titles. Many thanks to Mira Books and #NetGalley. What is above is my unbiased review.
