I love Rachel’s writing! She can make you fall in love with her characters so easily and always leaves you wanting more. This was a great start to another awesome series! Can’t wait to see where this world goes.

Ray's life always looked perfect from the outside, rich parents, big house, lots of friends, but appearances can be deceiving. Marlo's life definitely didn't look perfect, living with his foster mom, working for Ray's family, and being bullied at school. After a night together Marlo thinks things may have changed between them, but Ray proves him wrong the next day. Fast forward 4 years and they meet again, only this time, Ray's working for Marlo.

This book, I love the chemistry between the characters, the angst, the push and pull, it's so fantastic. My heart hurts for them both because of the past and the present. And that cliffhanger, I can't stop thinking about it. It's also nostalgic in a way, reminding me of my days at summer camp, I can smell the woods. I definitely will be purchasing the remaining 2 books, I need to see how this plays out.

They let down their barriors and just felt loved. Theight following day, she acted like he didn't insist and kept their secret night to herself.

HIs only hope was to become an actor, he was applying for colleges.. She took his acting scholarship, he was furious becuase that was his way to get out and ahead, she didn't need it or the money. But she did, her parents refused to pay for college if she went into acting. He went to another school and did amazingly, so much so he was the Director and her boss at the leading acting camp for Hollywood scouts. Now he was her boss and had all the power. Then passion and hate combined and they didn't know what to do with their chemistry and hate but give in.

Ends on Cliffhanger, must read next 2 Cruel Summer Series book to see how it all turns out.

This is a great haters to lovers story. :) I enjoy it a lot. The characters had great chemistry together as with all Rachel Van Dyken's books. The only bad part is that it ends on a cliff hanger... so we have to wait to find out what happens...

I loved this book beginning to end! I was hooked from page one! I love the whole enemies to lovers trope with second chance and this book certainly did not disappoint!! Rachel Van Dyken is one amazing author who always has her readers coming back for more and this book is one of those reasons they do. Happy reading!!

I chose this book based on the plot line and it was true to type in that poor boy yearns for rich girl, gets her and then gets thrown away because of rich girl's pride and peer pressure. Now the tables have turned, and rich girl is at not so poor boy's mercy and so begins the spate of vengeful, cat and mouse behaviors ,interspersed with moments of weakness that populate the book, culminating in a shocking cliffhanger. The book had intensity, amusement, hatred and flashbacks of happier times woven into the story to keep you engaged until suddenly ,wait ,what, cliffhanger ? Surprisingly I was not aware that this was the first installment in a continuing series.Interesting start to a series that begs the question of how the author plans to ensure this plot remains relevant and non-formulaic in the upcoming books.

A quick, fun read filled with angst and ending with a cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next with this tortured couple.

Ok, to be fair. I went into this book not seeing that it is a series.
.
I loved the story. I loved the characters. It wasn't too steamy....until the very last few pages. The problem for me. The story stops. When I say it stops I mean S.T.O.P.S. If you want to continue the story, you have to read the next...I hesitate to say the word book....novella...short story?!? I needed more. I need it to be wrapped up before continuing the next book. Having said that, it was an enjoyable read. If you are ok with immediately reading book 2 and 3 to literally find out what becomes of these characters....you will enjoy it. I do not enjoy that.
.
I'm ending with 2 1/2 stars. Again, I enjoyed the story, I really enjoyed the characters. I think they had great chemistry. I was very disappointed with how it "wrapped" up.

'Summer Heat' is the first book in a trilogy playing in a drama camp.

Ray, good (better saying rich) upbringing, spoiled some might say, wants to prove her parenst, but foremost herself that she belongs on stage.

A shame that a shadow from her past might bring her in this camp more rain than sunshine.

Marlon, director at the drama camp, can't believe this is happening. Spoiled princess aka Ray aka former employer is as a trainer at his camp. Now he has the chance to pay back every cruel thing she ever did to him...

Although i am a great fan of Rachel van Dykens work, 'Summer Heat' couldn't quite catch me like the last book i've read by her. This is mainly because of the immense speed in which the plot and the characters are developed. It is hard to connect to either Ray or Marlo since their past and their current meet up is handled in a very minimalized style.

Nevertheless, a short and nice summer read (just with a little less general depth and magic, which the reader is used from other Rachel van Dyken books).

Summer Heat was just that, full of heat! This was such a fun light and short read. I read it while getting some sunshine out on the back deck and it was just what I needed! I loved the characters and the enemies to lovers pure hotness going on in this gem.

Rachel Van Dyken always writes such angsty books and I love it! There was a huge cliff hanger at the end though and I can't wait to read more of Marlon and Ray's story because I was totally invested in their sizzling heat they had going on.

If you are looking for a short, sweet and HOT enemies to lovers romance that's perfect for a day at the beach then Summer Heat is for you and I can't wait to read more about Marlon and Ray in the rest of Cruel Summer's short series :)

Ray and Marlo, she is the popular girl, he is the adopted son of the housekeeper. They got together just to be apart, now back together at an older age, they are both at a drama camp, the chemistry between them is still there, he seeks revenge for all the things in the past. I can't wait for the next book!

<b><u>The First book of the series by Rachel Van Dyken! Ray</b></b> is known as the spoiled princess with rich parents and a big mansion. People think that she is a bitch, cold-hearted and arrogant but little did they know that inside she is broken, lost and alone. All she wears is armor and put on a fake smile in front of the public. <b><u>Marlon</b> is a poor, skinny boy who gets bullied in high school, and his bully is Ray. He hates her, and wants revenge to ruin his senior year and take his scholarship, but is that possible when he is lusting over her and remembers that one night they spend?

<b>" He can sense's attraction, he smells it in the air like a shark"</b>

Marlon and Ray were always enemies, they hated each other's guts but didnt know why. Ray's friends bullied Marlon in high school and she kept quiet, while he thought that she enjoyed watching him getting hurt. They both were a hot mess, fucked up teenagers who wanted to take revenge.

Marlon was a frosted kid with cheap clothing, who mowed the lawn of the <b>princess's mansion</b> whom he hates. He was an easy pick to get bullied, he was a skinny guy with glasses and no strength or confidence until four years later he is no longer that old Marlon anymore, <b>now he is every girl's wet dream, a hot director with 8 abs, drop dead gorgeous and drooling sexy</b>

4 years when they meet up at a drama Summer camp, their attraction escalates as they remember the one night they spend together, which they think was a mistake but rather it was the best night of their life. But that doesnt stop Marlon to take revenge from the girl he thinks ruined his teenage life, but when he gets to know her more, he feels that they both are similar but with different armors. <b> she shows that she is happy when she is not, and he shows that he doesnt care and stuff when he does</b>

<b>"She cried out of not getting her own way. Guys like me? cry out of devastation."</b>

<u>BOOKS IN THIS SERIES:
1- SUMMER HEAT
2- SUMMER SEDUCTION
30 SUMMER NIGHTS</u>

I was hooked up from the beginning to the end where I wanted not to continue reading anymore at some points because the plot was just getting dragged up to the end. The characters were confused which confused me as well because one time they are thinking to take revenge on each other, and then next they lust over one another.

The chemistry of Marlon and Ray was <b>Hot</b> but I thought her character was shown a little weak but her story and how her parents treated her was heartbreaking.

Marlon is <b>hot, sometimes arrogant, funny, sweet, sarcastic and sexy</b> where on the other hand, Ray is <b> bubbly, cute, sweet, feisty and caring</b>

It was a <b>short, sweet, fun </b> book and the characters were hilarious! I really liked reading it because it was <b> light-hearted and had that summery vibe</b>. Just when I thought that this book was simple and sweet types, without any drama or twist! <b>BOOM</b>, the cliff hanger got me <b>shook!</b>, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. I didnt saw it coming, I thought it will end simply but <b>NO</b><b> *squeak*, *excited*</b>

<b>Summer heat</b> Is narrated by Dual P.O.V! <b>hate to love story</b> between the <b>spoiled princess and the paupper</b>, I highly recommend it to read, predominantly because of the summery vibe and the lightness of the plot which was refreshing. And I loved the writing, it was easy going and went on a flow.

** received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Reviews are for readers. **

I guess I should have read the fine print and the reviews before requesting this book on Netgalley. Still, I read it, so I’m leaving a review because I believe all reviews, also those for ARC’s, are to educate other readers.

The length of this ‘book’ is 122 pages, which I think is just a novella. It’s the first of a 3-book series, which I think, makes this series just one full-length book that for some reason has been split into 3 seperate books. Summer Heat is part 1 and it ends on a cliffhanger. I’ve deducted two fat stars for not including this little tidbit of info in the blurb. Sorry, I’m principled that way. I’m a romance reader. This means that I expect a HEA to be IN the book I’m reading. If it’s not, and nobody told me otherwise, I feel cheated. I know it’s quite common in paranormals to end books on cliffhangers. But this isn’t one of those!

If you don’t care or start reading this when all three books are out: maybe you’ll have more fun. For me, it ruined the experience.

The trope is enemies to lovers, which is one of my favorite tropes. The hatred in this story comes from prejudice. In this case it’s rich popular girl with both parents vs poor adopted nerd guy. The setting is at a theatre summer camp where the guy is director and the girl a staff member, so the powertables have been turned since they last saw eachother in high school. The prejudice is still live and kicking, and in this book both can’t yet get past it.

I know this author has books that offer a HEA without the stories having been cut in parts, but since I’m pretty mad at basically waisting my time, at this moment I don’t know if I can make myself try again.

I voluntarily received a copy of this book for an honest review

I’m a fan of RVD, and this doesn’t disappoint. They only problem I had was the cliff hanger. But of course what fun would it be if you didn’t drawl us in for more!

He characters are interesting. Bras and Jackson seem cool and I feel like Jen could be trouble. And for Ray and Marlo I want them together so bad. The fire, passion and anger they have will be explosive it they let themselves live in the moment instead of the past.

I whole time I was reading this I thought about the Disney movie Camp Rock. Obviously this is a more grown up version but still has the same interest in theatrical and musical performance. If you were a fan then you be a fan of this now!

I quite enjoyed this book. I was hooked from the get go and the ending really made me want to read the next one. However, the book was very short so we didn't get much insight on the characters themselves apart from their relationship in the past.

For starters, I thought this was a a complete story. It isn't. Its the first third of a story. Which to be honest, the pacing and story development read like a novella so all along I thought that was what I was getting.

She is the daughter of an extremely wealthy family. She has no real friends because of her wealth. Family is never there for her. He was a foster kid that helped out his foster mom as their gardener. He was ridiculed growing up. He has had to work hard for everything whereas she has had things handed to her. Cue resentment. He has always hated her...except that one time they (view spoiler) Now fast forward just 4 years and he is suddenly such a hunk that she doesn't recognize him right away. Their chemistry is weird. Pure hatred mixed with attraction but not in a good way. Story development was weak.

And you all should know this ends on a cliffhanger. A cliffhanger that should be making me want more but I don't.

Great story about two old enemies. because of their social status. that are simply in love with each other. but their prejudices stops them to be together. The story surrounding is as georgous and you are longing to read the other two books!
