"Through Lya's Eyes" is a fantastic graphic novel. the artwork is well done and the story is well established. I'll be recommending this one.

I think when it comes to the story itself, I felt like it dragged on forever. I do adore the representation in this because that's so important and I would love nothing more than to have more of it in books nowadays. However, the art is the true stunner here because it's absolutely exquisite! The artist is now one of my favorites, but I wasn't too impressed with the plot. It's a pretty quick read, though, and if I were to recommend it to people, it would have to do more with the fact that I'd want them to showcase the art, more than anything else.

This volume really only introduces the plot, shows us the first complication in Lya's investigation. The roles of the various characters are pretty clear, even in the first sixty pages, so one can probably guess where the plot is headed.

Get over the rather juvenile style to the art here and you have a reasonable story, of a young wheelchair-bound lady seeking revenge. But just why is she thinking she can be a successful intern at a certain lawyers', and also find out the truth behind the car hit that disabled her? That clunky point – so clunky the dialogue picks it up, non-critically but as a matter of fact – aside, what we get here is a very pleasant teen-friendly thriller, with a lovely heroine. And when I say she's the cutest wheelchair user in comics since the best days of Barbara Gordon as Oracle, that's not to be leery and lecherous, it's to point out there are certainly benefits to having such inclusive characters. Her story might have been a little more dramatic – the biggest twist here is that she manages to rely on a colleague after having doubted that as being the case – but it's a good set-up to whatever comes next. I assume this is the first of two books, or three at the most, and we'll be suitably entertained with the truth when it comes out. After all, readers with spinal injuries deserve heroines they can look up to, and this really shouldn't be a missed opportunity. Fingers crossed then that my four stars are justified by the full thing. PS the other reviewers who stated the bubble order was a bit awry got it spot on – this is not as easy to read as it might be.

Lya se enfiou em um estágio não remunerado para ter respostas do que aconteceu após o acidente que a colocou em uma cadeira de rodas e pistas levam até o escritório de advocacia em que ela trabalha agora, porém por ter mobilidade reduzida a jovem terá que aliados nessa missão.

Não sei dizer ao certo o que foi, mas durante a leitura eu senti um tom meio estranho, e fico naquela de se foi o estilo do desenho (que explico melhor no próximo parágrafo), ou se foi na narrativa, que parece meio densa para uma graphic novel.

Já tinha visto no Instagram o trabalho da Justine Cunha, e eu gosto da riqueza dos desenhos dela nos quadros dessa graphic novel, mas os traços dos desenhos de rostos dela são bem marcantes e que para mim combinaria horrores em uma HQ que puxasse para o terror ou thriller.

Tenho raiva com cliffhangers gritantes em qualquer mídia (um bom exemplo é o da primeira temporada da série Coisa Mais Linda), você passa um bocado de tempo aguardando a continuação e vai ver a resolução é rápida e só serviu de isca, um dessa linha ocorreu nessa HQ e o sentimento é exatamente esse.

On the eve of her seventeenth birthday Lya is hit by a car and left for dead. This tragic accident lead to Lya losing the use of her legs, but with the support of her family she has rebuilt her life. Now she is ready to take on a high power internship with the hope of uncovering the person who was driving the car that night, the person who left her for dead. 

I really enjoyed this novel, the illustrations were beautiful and matched the novel plot and writing style perfectly. 
This was a short read, but that was exactly what I was looking for. The perfect novel for when you just want to loose yourself in another world for a little while. It was full of suspense, knock backs and triumphs with a cliff hanger ending that's left me waiting anxiously for more! 
I really liked Lya, her determination was unmatched she dove head first into her investigations and didn't let anything get in her way. I personally feel representation of people with disabilities is vital, it helps readers connect and relate, and it is so important that we have relatable role models at any age. 
Overall I enjoyed this little read, the cliffhanger was unexpected but hyped me up for the next volume, a wait I hope won't be too long. I would recommend this novel for fans of mystery novels with a strong female lead.

I really enjoyed this!

This was a gorgeous graphic novel. It is a mystery that follows a young girl trying to find out who hit her and paralyzed her with their car. The novel shows the struggles of those in wheelchairs but it also a deeply emotional story about a girl just trying to find answers. Lya is working at the law firm that was used to pay off her parents after the accident and trying to find out what happened.

Lya is strong but very stubborn and will do anything to find out the truth about the accident. She enlists the help of a few old friends and a few new in order to investigate and all of the suspense builds as the plot progresses.

I love that this was a mystery - but you should know, that it is a cliffhanger ending... but that was also kind of why I loved it. There is movement in the story, enough to keep a reader intrigued but then it all abruptly ends when you are really getting into it.

The illustrations through the story were very beautiful and easy to follow, and the text was just enough. Sometimes with Graphic novels they go overboard with the text and don't tell as much story with the images as they could - this book uses the imaging very well to tell parts of the story and struggle Lya's going through.

This is a really good mystery graphic novel. I found it hard not to feel bad for Lya, mainly because what happened to her could have been prevented if only she could have gotten medical help sooner. I loved her determined personality and how she doesn’t let her disability prevent her from life. I feel like I could really relate to her if I put myself in her shoes and I’m pretty sure I would be doing all I could do to find out who did it to me as well. This story left off on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait for the next installment to find out if my guess is right!
The illustrations were done very well and displayed the emotional and mysterious ride perfectly.

The stars are basically for the illustrations. I really liked them and the use of colours. The style was exactly the kind I enjoy when reading a graphic novel. Unfortunately the story was slow and boring which was upsetting because it could have gone pretty well. There just wasn't enough happening and able I pushed through to the end, that was an even bigger disappointment. But I won't reveal a spoiler but I'm sure if you get that far in this book, you will know what I mean. Unless of course you like that sort of thing. I don't recommend this unless you just want to look at the pictures.

3 Years ago 17 year old Lya was hit by a car and left for dead. She survived but ended up in a wheelchair. Now,an intern at a law firm,she is determined to find out who is responsible for her accident.
I really liked this. It was so nice to see a disabled girl having an internship at a big law firm and nobody staring or questioning it. When a guy was looking at her,he wasn't pitying her,he though she was cute.
The story was intriguing. And after that cliffhanger I need the next issue like right now!
And of course the art was so pretty with the vibrant colors,
Overall I would really recommend this one,especially if you like mysteries.

I really enjoyed the comic and the disability representation which is something close to my heart especially young people with mobility issues. Though just like a nitpicky thing a full-time wheelchair user probably wouldn't use that type of chair because it's not the best for someone permanently in a chair. I thought the story was interesting and engaging and I can't wait to see how the story develops!

This comic is a true gem! A great story, superb illustrations and a lovely plot. It is a story of friendship, of helping each other find the truth about a hit and run and of being in an accident and defying all the odds by being strong-willed and courageous. An amazing story for teenagers and adults alike, which I warmly recommend!

The artwork is beautiful, there's no doubt about it. I loved the color scheme, but the bubble order was sometimes hard to follow.

Unfortunately it was such a short read, I barely had the time to enjoy it. Even though the idea was very intriguing, the storyline just felt so rushed. Everything unfolded so quickly, and every obstacle was overcame a little too easily for my liking. I think the pace was just off here, and the cliffhanger.. let's just say it didn't need to end there (but it was predictable).
Moreover, it was difficult to connect with the characters as they were very one dimensional with one quality/flaw defining them. It was all quite boring to be honest.

Since I loved the artwork and the idea, I will check out the next volume, hoping it improved...

Following our main character, Lya, who was hit by a car and left for dead. She's now paralysed and in a wheelchair, she's trying to find out who did this to her.

I really loved the illustrations and the story line is great. I will definately keep my eyes open for the rest of the series (at least I'm hoping there will be). It certainly leaves you on a cliff hanger.

The artstyle in this graphic novel was amazing. It was a really good mystery graphic novel and i will definitely pick up the next volume.

A fairly good story about Lya, a young woman who’s been left a paraplegic after a hit-and-run when she was 17. Four years have passed, and she’s as decided as ever to find out what really happened: the person who hit her left her for dead and never alerted anyone, which meant she was discovered only hours later… a few hours that made all the difference between her getting her ability to walk back and remaining in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. So, her investigation and her motives are definitely understandable, and something that made me root for her.

I found the drawing style really beautiful, all in softness and subtlety (the black/dark line-art that’s very typical of comics is absent here), while also deftly making use of different colour palettes depending on the atmosphere it depicts, especially reds and blues.

The characters, in general, are engaging, even though they’re not necessarily very deep: Lya is brave and determined (not only to discover the truth, but also simply to live her life without letting her disability get in the way). Her best friend, Antoine, supports her all the way in both these endeavours, and helps her as best as he can. Adèle, the receptionist, is a bubbly young woman who immediately helps Lya get her marks at the practice. De Villegan, the lawyer, is antipathic and yells at his own intern, and looks like the perfect villain. There is room for more surprises in that regard, but their roles are quickly and easily defined, with the clichés this implies.

The investigation itself is not complex, as mostly what Lya needs it to read a file kept at the practice, but the story doesn’t shy away from limitations that an able-bodied person wouldn’t mean: the archives are only accessible by stairs, and so Lya has to be creative as to how she’s going to access them—getting discouraged and giving up is never an option for her. The downside for me was that while she encountered setbacks, I thought they were (too) easily circumvented, so there wasn’t so much tension to speak of here.

This first volume ends on a strong cliffhanger, and I guess this will be a make-it-or-break-it-deal for more than one person. This said, I did find it quite appropriate: if you’re going to have a cliffhanger, might as well have this one (and not one based on something else in the story).

Conclusion: 3 stars because all in all, I liked the story and the art, and want to read volume 2, but the pacing and tension could’ve been handled better.

Through Lya’s Eyes is a suspenseful, gripping mystery. Carbone brings to light resilience and determination in a young woman who was wronged. Lya works with her best friend and a new ally to bring justice to our world. Cunha Justine has simply, yet descriptive style matching the emotion brought forth by the author. A story that will leave you wanting more.
