In Search of Dinosaurs by Dougal Dixon and Danielle Fabri looks at each of the major ages of dinosaurs and prehistoric critters- Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous- through the lens of a dig site. Kids are encouraged to identify the bones, footprints, and other fossils before opening foldouts to identify the creatures in question. Basic info is provided for each timeframe, and for each creature. Pop quizzes appear at the end of each section. This book is meant for rather younger readers than my cubs, and did not show well as a digital copy, for many reasons. I think this would be good for early elementary age children.

A couple of my boys love dinosaurs and this book fit the bill perfectly! We all learned something and had so much fun doing it! The scenes are panoramic, which make it even more amazing!

My kids and I loved this book. They are huge dinosaur fans anyway so introducing them to others is never a tough task. This held their interest from start to finish. They're obsessed with fossils and spend their days already when we're on the beach, hill walking or just playing in the garden hunting for and attempting to identify fossils. In 'In Search of Dinosaurs' as the title infers, footprints, bones and fossils of dinosaurs need to be identified across panoramic scenes. Children learn about the Triassic, the Jurassic and the Cretaceous eras. They learn about the dinosaurs which came from each era and learn some interesting facts about each one.
This is a fun book with a little learning thrown in for good measure. It provided my children with hours of entertainment and will do the same in my classroom in September.

Living with a dinosaur fan can be fun, and I know I've been exposed to and learned so much more about dinosaurs and fossils than I ever did as a kid, thanks to my son taking an interest in them. In Search of Dinosaurs is a dinosaur book that helps to make some connections between the artistic recreations of Mesozoic animals that we see and the fossil dig sites where information about these creatures and environments is collected.

There is a section for each of the three time periods in the Mesozoic Era, and each follows the same format. First we see an artist's recreation of a hypothetical fossil dig. On the next few pages, we see scenes (without text) of what these animals may have looked like when they were alive. This gives readers the opportunity to go back and forth between the fossils and creatures and see if they can figure out which of the living creatures (or parts of them) are represented in the dig.

These scenes are followed by smaller pictures and information blurbs about each creatures -- mostly dinosaurs, but also some other animals such as Cretaceous turtles, as well as ammonites, metaposaurus, a small mammal, etc. There are plenty of good tidbits of information here, but they're presented in a way that's easy to follow. Since the fossils are presented "in context," we also learn a bit more about the kinds of things paleontologists find in digs, and some of the ways they can find clues as to the dinosaurs' behaviors and environments.

In Search Of Dinosaurs: Find the Fossils: Identify the Dinosaurs by Dougal Dixon encourages readers to look out for dinosaur bones, footprints, and fossil feathers in this dinosaur dig site. Defore opening the gatefolds and uncovering the creatures to whom they once belonged, in 3 incredible, expansive panoramic scenes. Travel through Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous eras, hunting for fossils and then learning about each amazing prehistoric creature, before testing your knowledge with a fun dinosaur quiz. Grab your paleontologist’s tool kit and get stuck in with facts, stats, and colorful illustrations to amaze any young dinosaur enthusiast.

In Search Of Dinosaurs is a good non fiction introduction to fossil huntings and the eras when dinosaurs lived. I thought the break downs and information were very well done. The information was all valuable, but I think many dino obsessed young readers will already have some of this information down, but this is a good starting point for readers that are just discovering paleontology and dinosaurs. The illustrations were well done, giving the needed detail, but did not wow or amaze me with detail of vividness. I did like the short quiz at the end.

In Search Of Dinosaurs is basic non fiction resource for those looking to learn about dinosaurs and paleontology. It offers exactly what is expected by the title and description, but did not amaze me.

Thank you #netgalley for giving me a copy of #InSearchOfDinosaurs to review. This was a little different than I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised. The illustrations are beautiful. There is a ton of information for different periods of time. Kids get to learn about different dinosaurs and other animals during those specific time frames. This would be perfect for an elementary classroom.

Adorable book! Perfect for the dinosaur lovers in your family. You go through three era's, and there's a pop quiz to find out how well everyone was listening to the story. This book would make for a better physical copy than an ebook copy since the illustration calls for a fold out etc. but super fun to read with the kids.

What a wonderful book to stimulate young one's imaginations. Mr Dixon has compiled an interesting, informative read which explores the different time periods in which each dinosaur lived, other animals and plant life living in the same time and has a lot of statistical facts and figures for youngsters to get their heads around. It's written in a perfectly accessible manner with bold and colourful illustrations and is high quality and a suitable introduction for budding palaeontologists. Along with easy to understand short presentations on fossil-hunting and archaeology, this is a superb children's work of non-fiction. Written by renowned dinosaur expert Dougal Dixon, this is a thorough introduction from a trusted source. Many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - words & pictures for an ARC.

New approaches to dinosaur books for the young are hard to find, but this one makes for a strong contender. Beyond the introduction and the guide to what fossil-hunters pack with them for their work, we get three large fold-out dioramas of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous life, all bursting with the usual eat-or-be-eaten activity, and a small guide to all the animals present. The unique selling point is that beforehand we get to see young scientists sitting (perilously close to cliff edges, mind) chipping away at the fossils, so we can try and match the remains with the originals. It's a bit more exciting than it sounds, even if it is very simple – I liked it as a fresh way to factor in fossilised footprints, the origins of coal, the clues we can get from rock formations, and so on. Thus you get an all-encompassing approach without realising it. This looked really well produced from my e-arc, and might have got five stars if it had the answers – one remain was supposed to show the skin shadow and I still can't work out which. Either way, this is well worth considering – so four and a half stars.

I enjoyed how this book "gave" you the tools to look for and identify dinosaurs throughout the book. There are pages with skeletons that you can match up to the right dinosaur, and a lot of information on not only dinosaurs, but other animals and plants that lived at the same time.
