This kept me on the edge of my seat from page 1 !!!

More twists and turns than a helter skelter !!!!

LOVED it - absolutely loved it !!

Tense, paced, you think you know whats going to happen and THEN something else does - fantastic premise that has been done before but not as well as this has

Very emotive, well written - can't praise enough - would make an absolutely fantastic movie

I keep thinking what did I just read? I thought it was going to be different that how it turned out. I feel that so much was left unanswered. Like those mysterious texts at the end and why she didn't just leave a note. Ugh I just feel like I've been left hanging. It was engaging enough to keep me going to the end but I don't feel whole!!

The Assistant packed a gut punch like few others! What a unique and emotional story!

Jessie and Emery met when they were freshmen in college. They've been married for 23 years and have two children, a daughter who is preparing to leave for college and a twelve year old son. They have both gained high level career success and money is no issue. From the outside looking in, they are the perfect family who are blessed in every way.

Jessie's father has recently passed away from a long-term illness and it seems that it has led her to re-prioritize her life. She steps back from her company to spend more time with her family. Meanwhile, Emery has a huge job starting in Boston for the construction of a building he is the architect for. Jessie insists that he hire an assistant so that she doesn't get pulled into that role with her new "free time" as she truly wants to be at home with their kids.

The story is told from three points of view: Jessie, Emery and Charlotte (the new assistant). It is helpful to get into each of their heads. I sensed there was something more to the story than I was reading as I flew through the book. As I went, I had various theories bouncing around in my head. When I finally got to the "holy crap" moment, I had only figured out a portion of the twist.

I'm hesitant to share any more details because I believe that one should go into this story as blind as possible. Just know that it definitely tugs on the heartstrings throughout....actually it flat out yanks on the heartstrings pretty mercilessly. It is about being a strong woman who loves those around her with a passion like no other. As that person, you make the decisions you think are best, but not everyone may agree. This was an incredibly powerful read. Buckle up and jump in!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am absolutely torn over this which completely bums me out. I had to talk this out with my hubby because my feelings are so mixed and I’m not sure how to feel without spoiling anything. Ugh. What I can say is that I was not a fan of switching from first person to some chapters that are in third. For me, I’m not a fan of third person and switching between them makes my head go wonky and it takes me out of the story, which kinda irritates me. But that’s just me, if that doesn’t bother you then I say give this one a whirl. I do have to say I’m completely pissed off at the pretend character because of her actions. I think they were selfish and I don’t think it’s fair to keep something like that from someone you love. Ugh again. I don’t know. I’m a mixed bag of emotions over this. But I love this amazing cover and the writing was fantastic, no really, it is. I just want to set my tablet on fire because like I said, I’m seriously irked at the fictional characters. I wish there was more to the ending. Okay, okay, I’m going to go and eat my feelings with some ice cream and think about this some more.

Well, I definitely did not see that coming! What started out as a novel that seemed like a Lifetime movie plot turned into something so much more! Jesse and Emery have a "perfect" marriage: two beautiful kids, careers that are fulfilling and lucrative, and lovely homes that would make anyone jealous. And yet Jesse is still reeling from the loss of her father who had ALS and died a slow and painful death. So when she hires assistant, Charlotte to help her husband with his job as an architect, I suspected something nefarious as of course Charlotte is beautiful, efficient, caring, and good with her kids. Would you hire this woman to work with your husband? I wouldn't. But there is so much more to this story than meets the eye initially, and you should really just go in to this novel blind and see where the story takes you. It's bittersweet and lovely so have the tissues handy!

Jesse and her husband, Emery, were blessed with a love that kept on for 23 years and two children. As an architect, Emery was wealthy. Jesse was wealthy, too - having run her own business for 19 years. Two homes ; one in Burlington and one in Boston. Who wouldn't be jealous? Charlotte becomes Emery's assistant as he takes on a major project in Boston. Charlotte has a crush on Emery, but keeps it to herself.

Within the last year, Jesse and her mom had been through grief at the loss of Jesse's father. He had ALS and slowly, bit by bit, went through a painful process prior to his dying.

To help Jessie get through her father's illness and subsequent loss, Jessie finds peace in going to the library and in reading at home. She befriends Bay, a woman who works at the library, who also helps Jessie through trying times.

However, the rest is totally unexpected when...

Many Thanks to Social Butterfly PR and NetGalley for a touching and moving read.
