This is a large book, with lots of information about painting techniques taken from over 100 artists and their painting. The Book is broken up into sections of Nudes, Figures, Landscapes, Still Life, Fantasy and Abstractions.
Masterclass it is, with lots of information on technique and tips taken from each painting. The information is interesting and gives an insight on the painting styles of these great painters.
A must for anyone really interested in painting style

I enjoyed this book. I am an artist and graphic designer so the topic is especially interesting to me. I think the interior design is very well put together. Clever, clean, and modern. The content is rich with historical background on the painters plus little bits of little known info nuggets tucked in. The title "Painting Masterclass" threw me off though ( I gave it 4/5 stars for this). I thought the content would be more about painting techniques and methods, however it is more about the history of the artist's life and work. The book focuses on the known masters (also some not so well known including women as one reviewer pointed out) from around the 1500 and includes more contemporary artists ending around 2014. The images are large and beautiful and the selected works are poignant. I viewed on an iPad and although you have the ability to enlarge, I suspect his book is best viewed in print. Great for any art historian or artist bookshelf.

This is a fantastically put together art book, showcasing many great artists, their works and techniques.
You also learn quite a bit of background information about the artists themselves, their habits and reasons/inspirations for their paintings.

I loved the little extra explanations below the main text and pictures for studying purposes.

Great for any beginner or advanced artist or just as coffee table book or present.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a copy.

This is a gem of a book. A real must for anyone interested in art. It covers the complete spectrum from classical to abstract. But the thing that really impressed me most was that it included Women artists on an equal standing as the men. I had never heard of some of the earlier women artist before much to my shame. It is a brilliant introduction pitched at just the right level to give you all the key about the artist and their techniques. It would be great as a standard school text.
