This was such an amazing read that I couldn’t put it down. It went everywhere with me. To the doctors office, the dentist, the eye doctor. IT WENT ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE. I was so sad when it ended that I immediately went and bought more books from this author!

Not what I expected at all.
Too many characters and most of which never really had anything to do with the plot of the book whatsoever.
Too many needless details that made this book drag on and on.
I had already started it and it was painful honestly to have to finish it , but I wanted to give an honest review and really was hoping it would get better. I was wrong.

This is the first book that I have read by Cathy Cash Spellman but it will not be the last! Right from the very beginning I was involved in the story. For a story of fiction it really makes you wonder. Thanks for such a great story!

This was the first book that I've read by Cathy Cash Spellman and I was not disappointed. I connected with each character as they were introduced, falling in love with all their nuances along the way. I loved how she wove mystery, intrigue, history and romance so perfectly together, keeping me glued to each page until the very last one. I finished hoping that there are more adventures to come...

This is the best mystery I've read in a long time and I hope that the author, Cathy Cash Spellman is using this novel to introduce us to a series featuring the Donovan clan. Fitz Donovan is the former NYC police chief retired and now owns a bookstore in his NYC neighborhood. He shares his brownstone with his divorced daughter and his college student grandaughter. His other daughter is nearby and a successful architect specializing in restorations. The story opens like most cozy mysteries with a surprising murder. In this case, it's the elderly neighbor and it comes as a shock as she was one to keep to herself. Fitz can't help dig into the circumstances as she'd left him a cryptic message and the book takes off in twists and turns from there, leaving behind the cozy mystery formula. This book is full of characters, twists, romance, a bit of violence and is quickly paced to keep you on the edge of your seat. The author juxtaposed the wealthy (and not so), the young and older generations, a touch of WWII and international intrigue. You can't miss with this novel as it touches all the bases.

This is not the cozy mystery that it seems to be just by looking at the cover. Rather, it is a story of spying, politics and a possible Fourth Reich with the goal of world domination. When Fitz Donavan befriends his elderly neighbor, Mrs. W, all he expected to find was another bibliophile. Instead, she tells him that her life is in danger and asks him to return later so that she can reveal her secrets. Before she can do so, however, she is brutally tortured and murdered. Thus, Fitz, a retired NYC police chief, is pulled into discovering her secrets and why an old lady would be tortured and killed. Fitz calls on his daughters, granddaughters and their friends to help him discover Mrs. W’s past, the secrets that got her killed. The plot is unbelievable but very well-written so that I was quickly drawn into the story, feeling an urgency to discover the secrets that Mrs. W held so close. The book had the usual mystical and psychic elements of the author since Maeve, Fitz’s daughter, has a “second sight” and other abilities that lead to clues to solve the mystery. Fitz is helped by some really quirky and likable characters, many of whom have surreal abilities with science and computers, but all of which are necessary in order to solve the mystery of the elderly neighbor’s death. This book combines mystery with a conspiracy theory and is actually a very dark novel that leads us to a conclusion that is satisfactory but somewhat abrupt. I think that readers of novels with a lot of weblike elements that unravel slowly will enjoy this book. There were some slow parts in the book, but for the most part it was fast-paced and amusing, with a quality of “what the heck just happened?”

Oh my, this was such an unexpectedly good read!

The writing by Cathy Cash Spellman was solid and flowed so smoothly. The characterisation was wonderful - the characters were intelligent, witty, charming and honest. The dialogue was superb with plenty of much needed humour as, with its omission, this would have been a very dark novel. The plot was mesmerising and I simply didn't want it to end. If you enjoy good, old-fashioned, but gritty thriller-mysteries with a comedic aspect, A Murder on Jane Street is the book for you!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from The Wild Harp & Company Inc. via NetGalley at my own request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I had a really hard time getting into this one, and put it down a few times. The story isn't terrible, but I do feel like portions of the book were unnecessary to the plot and the ending felt a bit rushed.

A brutal murder, a deadly secret and a deathly conspiracy.

The cover of this book didn’t match the content IMO, painted as a cozy mystery, it’s really not.

Retired police chief Fitz Donahue has a good relationship with his with his elderly neighbour, when she comes to him saying she is in trouble she is brutally tortured and murdered before she gets the chance to speak to him.

Enlisting help from his children and grandchildren they piece together dark and mysterious secrets about their beloved neighbour,

The characters are brilliant, witty and charming. The book is filled with conspiracy theories and scientific discoveries.

The book has promises it could be made into a series and I’m so hopeful about that.

Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for a advanced copy of this in exchange for a honest review.

This was a great book. It was slow reading, I think because of the content. That and this wasn't my normal type of book. The Donovan's were a great family with very interesting friends who love digging into a murder mystery no matter the danger. And there was plenty of danger, some frightening information about the state of the world and the power systems at work. Now, I don't know if it was all based on research or a mixture of research and fiction. Regardless, it was eye opening because there were some elements that I recognized as very real. This book digs into a Nazi conspiracy with far-reaching consequences. It you want to be frightened and enjoy a gripping decade long mystery, then read this book.

This is one book that has a lot of twist and turns. One minute you think you solved the case and it gets cold again. then around the corner something else happens and the story gets hot again. it kept me guessing till the end on who killed the old lady. and it also gave me goosebumps. this is one of the best books I have read in a long time.

Sometimes it pays to have a nosy neighbor, especially one who is retired cop! In A MURDER ON JANE STREET, Spellman gives us a good mystery and loveable characters. It isn't quite a cozy, but almost. so if you like a cozy with an edge, this will be the perfect pick for you.
