Let’s be honest: I picked up Half Breed Haven #1: Wilde-Fire because I was a bit shocked by the title and I had to know more, wondering what story could possibly be paired with a title problematic enough that it was willing to use “half breed” unironically in contemporary literature. This is one of those books that fits the mold so frequently lampooned online, where what seems likely to be a male author manages to mention the protagonist’s “adult bits” (this is a family site…) on the very first page. The “half breed” elements are as problematic as you might expect, as well. This was definitely not my cup of tea.

Half Breed Haven #1 Wilde-Fire, A book of short tales told from the heroines perspective. These hardloving sharpshooting gals take the west by storm and make for an enjoyable read.

I liked this story, I thought the characters were quirky and fun. I Hope to learn more about them as the series carries on.
I liked that they all had different backgrounds and all brought something to their adventures. I also liked that the bad guys were diverse with some being well thought out and others just hoping for the best.

Some parts were funny and cute while others were steamy. The author was well versed in giving you just enough to want to know more. I liked that the sisters also able to be seen in different pairings or solo, which made them more well rounded.
Cassie was the sister that started out the quartet. She was trained by Pinkerton's and worked for her uncle the LT Governor. She was feisty and sassy as well as deadly

Lijuan was the second oldest and half Chinese. I liked that her and Cassie had built a relationship from a broken start. She was in control, strong and unique. There is much more to her story that I want to know.

Honor Elizabeth was also strong and knowledgeable but seemed more "refined" that the other three. She seemed more traditional, but I think her character will develop more in the coming books

Cattie, is half Mexican and full of fire! She definitely broke the mold. She was not afraid to be different and the take chances.

I haven't read anything like this before so I enjoyed that it was different. It was a fresh breathe of air. Every time i picked it up I had to keep reading as long as possible. I look forward to knowing more about the sisters.

I received a copy of this via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have recently been reading a lot of "modern Western" novels (by CJ Box, J. Todd Scott and Craig Johnson) and was, therefore, intrigued by this book. I knew it would be different to books by the aforementioned authors and was looking forward to a rollicking and good-natured romp in the Old West.

Despite my initial enthusiasm, I managed to get as far as 27% into this novel before conceding defeat.

I found myself unable to differentiate sufficiently between the four Wilde sisters and, as a consequence, became uninterested in them. Despite a lot of - at times repetitive and tiresome - backstory for each sister, they each failed to come alive on the pages.

The prose was somewhat awkward and the dialogue unconvincing.

My main issue was the action and fight scenes; the three (?) that I got as far as reading were overly long and drawn out, with little sense of tension and excitement to them. They seemed a little laboured.

Also, when requesting this book, I had no idea of the sexual aspect to the story. Those scenes seemed out of place in a story that, to my mind, appeared to be a playful and affectionate homage and twist on the male-dominated Western genre.

A totally different read for me, but what a fun, laugh out loud, and over the top tale it was! I loved the dynamic between the sisterhood and their antics are definitely fearless, sassy and outrageous too. For readers looking for something easy to follow, action-packed and a little of the grid, this is most certainly a worthwhile choice.
