Now I must admit I really don't do shapeshifter novels any more as they are very much all the same.

How wrong was I about this.

This I found to be totally different and riveting.

It was fast paced and action packed with great characters.

I was only disappointed that it was not longer.

An interesting if slightly implausible story.

Mila is a shifted. She's been in the run for 10 years but when her friend is killed she steps into her friends identity shifting her face and form. Unfortunately Mila's friend was an assassin's target and said assassin follows Mila to her mission in space determined to eliminate her.

Besides the assassin who's also a shifter there are other forces gunning to bring down the mission. Fortunately for Mila the handsome captain is attracted to her and teams up with her to handle the adventures.

While I'm a huge fan of Space Opera I felt this story did not hit the right buttons for me.

Sounded such a good premise, but I just found this as confused as much as the character Mila was, she didn’t know what she was meant to be and neither did this book. It gave me a headache at times with the two and fro going on. A shame it could have been so good

I enjoyed the book. Forrest has written an interesting original novel. The action is non stop and well written.

I feel a bit mixed about this book. I was attracted by the cover and blurb, and it started off well, but then it seems to chop and change the viewpoint (not head hopping, but through scene breaks). I really wanted to get into this book as it is the sort of story I enjoy, but as soon as I was getting to know one character the perspective/scene changed to another. I also feel the characterisation isn't quite right. Mila is bold and confident one moment and crying and fearful the next. I read up to chapter eight. I think this is a story that would have benefited from either an omniscient narrator or to have one full chapter per character (to allow us time to get to know them better before switching to another).

Mila is the most wishy washy heroine I've ever read. Cool and confident, then hiding and crying. Not my cup of tea at all. She is a shifter and it wasn't really clear til way into the book that she and the other shifters can turn in to other people. And you lost me at the Luke storyline as it was so confusing I had no idea what was going on or if it was grammatical errors. It made no sense in advancing the story. This book needed fleshed out with the conspiracy story, how the heck was the villain supposed to get off the ship and save himself if his plan worked? There were so many plot holes I was completely out of the story most of the time. I won't read the following book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

If you like stories about space, shifters, and conspiracies then you’ll like this one. Mila is a shifter, but this isn’t a pack related/ magic kind of story. In her world, shifter can transform into anything, provided conservation of mass. So, they are rounded up in camps and feared. In this, she shifts into her dead friend’s form to hunt down a conspiracy. There’s romance, but that doesn’t drive the plot. Personally, I liked the viewpoint jumps, and the “fake it til you make it” attitude she had- she controlled her fear as much as she could and got things done. This was a great first story, and I look forward to reading the next.

This book could have been so much more enjoyable if I could have related to the Heroine ………… one minute she is shaking , terrified of all around her … the next she is sashaying onto the bridge of a space ship smiling at the captain . There was no continuity to her personality , that being said the actual storyline was very good and drew me in .

Mila was being hunted - she was a shifter - the only course open to her was to hide from the government or face being placed in a shifter camp .
Until she agreed to meet her old , which ended in death and Mila taking over her friends papers/ID and job .
Now pilot on board an old spaceship which is on a diplomatic mission she can finally relax and do the job she loves . Except the killer has followed her on board and is also a shifter , able to take the identities of anyone …. who can she trust ?
The diplomatic mission is also in jeopardy , there are conspirators on board determined to stop the meeting with the Aliens at all costs .
Mila must let her guard down and trust the Captain to find not just the assassin but the traitors before they are all killed .

This book is not the end - there are still traitors out there - and if the Author can tighten up on Mila's character I would love to read the next in the series .

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
