This plot had the makings of an amazing book but I just couldn’t get into it. I struggled to keep turning the page and I think that’s because it wasn’t fast-paced enough.

Really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get into it at all. The main character was unlikable. Could not finish this book.

I love reading mysteries and thrillers, and this book did not disappoint! I was hooked right away, could not put the book down, and loved the shocking ending. The author did a great job keeping the reader engaged, developing the characters, & adding just the right amount of details

I really enjoyed this book. The ending I didn't see coming and I love books where you think it's going in one direction and it ends up in another. Well written and keeps you enthralled.

I just don't know what to say about this book! had me hooked from the start, and just when I thought I had it figured out, a NEW plot twist showed up! Gripping great psychological suspense.... i was totally hooked on this book. For those who crave the genre, be sure you read this book sooner rather than later.

Gemma and Danny have moved to their new home until one day Danny simply vanishes. Gemma reports his disappearance to the police and this is where the story takes off!
There's so many questions that bounce about when reading this book. Is Danny the victim of the serial killer that's stalking the streets? Has Gemma got something to do with it all or is he simply a figment of her imagination?
I love a book that really makes you question and this really hits you hard!
I did find that it sagged a bit in the middle and the pace slowed down but it doesn't half ramp up a gear at the end! A most enjoyable read.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

The perfect couple is a good mystery, well written ,easy to read from the perspective of the police and Gemma the wife who is under suspicion when her husband suddenly disappears from the family home. Read this book you will not be disappointed.

I started this book a little unsure about what to expect. As the book progressed I became more and more intrigued and was completely invested in the ending and outcome.

I really enjoyed this thriller. It was a little predictable at times but still managed to build up the tension. I would read other books by this author

There were many things to like about this book..

It was a fun, twisty mystery.
I really liked the writing style, which drew me into the story.
I liked the main character. So many books lately have the main character be such a victim, and a doormat. I loved that the author didn't do that.
I loved that there were multiple POV - this is my favorite reading style.

I knew what the twist would be, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the journey. (We all know the Titanic sinks, but we still loved the movie, right???)

I received this as an ARC and want to thank the publisher and Net Galley. This didn't impact my review (trust me - you should see some of my reviews...) I enjoyed this book and will look for others from this author.

This thriller has a bendy twisty plot which is what I love. I was immediately drawn into this and it really had me on the edge of my seat. The story is told through two alternating POV, between Gemma and the Detectives. Gemma is married to Danny who disappears out of the blue while she is away on a work trip. When she comes home and finds him gone she immediately reports to the police. The Detectives happen to be doing a similar case and all the victims look like Danny. What is really going on here? As we follow along with them and try to connect the dots on who Danny is and what really happened, we are on a wild and bumpy road to the truth. I highly recommend picking this book up and reading this page turner.

Gemma could not imagine how life could be better. She and her husband, Danny, have just moved to a new house and things are going perfectly. One day, Danny goes missing. What's most disturbing is that he bears a strong resemblance to the victims of a serial killer on the loose. Gemma must convince the police that Danny was here and is in trouble even though no one has ever seen him in their new home or city.

This was a pretty good thriller. The twist was not very surprising which made the resolution a bit disappointing for me. Up until the reveal, I was very intrigued in the beginning, but the story started to drag out as it became a back-and-forth with the police over who the serial killer is. Overall it was a good story, but it didn't have my heart racing.

First sentence:

It was the silence I noticed first.

The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler is a quickly paced thriller that was really hard for me to put down. Gemma is married to Danny O’Connor who mysteriously disappears while she is away on a work-related trip. Gemma returns home to find that Danny has disappeared; leaving behind his clothing, passport, and other essentials. What could have happened, she wonders? Tune into DCI Helena Dickens and DS Devon Clarke as they’re working a case in Bristol where the victims share an eerie similarity. When Gemma calls to report Danny missing, they discover that Danny also shares a striking resemblance to the previous victims. And the plot thickens!

Thrillers are one of my favorite genres and when a thriller like The Perfect Couple has a bendy twisty plot that surprises me at the end, well, that’s a true pleasure to read. The characters are well-written and believable in their roles, perfectly wringing my emotions, even for the bad guy. The story is told in alternating narratives between Gemma and the detectives, not always my favorite but it works beautifully in this story.

The Perfect Couple is definitely a page turner and a remarkable thriller by an author that I will always read from now on! Perfect for any fan of mystery, thrillers, and suspense.

A big thank you to NetGalley, Harper Impulse, Killer Reads, One More Chapter, and Jackie Kabler for providing The Perfect Couple for my honest review

Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle ARC of The Perfect Couple.

Sadly, I failed to get invested in The Perfect Couple because the plot sounded a tad too similar to other novels I've read in the past.

When a woman marries a man after knowing him for just a few months, you know things aren't going to turn out well.

That's the plot of The Perfect Couple; Gemma arrives home one night to find her home empty. Her husband, Danny, is nowhere to be found. At the same time, a serial killer is targeting men who all bear a striking resemblance to her missing husband.

Gemma was hard to like; she spends most of the time wondering where Danny is, if he's cheating on her, if he's lying in a ditch somewhere...it all go to be repetitive too fast too soon.

The police are incompetent, stereotypical buffoons. Immediately, they zero in on Gemma as the one responsible for her husband's disappearance.

Look, I know 90% of the time, the bad guy is someone close to the victim, or, at least, an acquaintance.

But, the police don't follow up on any leads. It's Gemma all the way. They have their sights set squarely on her and nothing will deter them from pointing their fingers directly at her.

There is a final twist, one you need to suspend disbelief for, and depending on your ability to do so, will either make you like or dislike the book. It was just okay for me, but that's how I felt about the book, the plot, and the characters.

The writing was good but The Perfect Couple has all the earmarks of a Lifetime movie, especially the ending.

Gemma and Danny have been living in wedded bliss for over a year when they decide to buy a house in Bristol---trading in the city apartment life for something better suited to maybe starting a family. When Gemma comes back from a work weekend away, expecting Danny to have dinner ready with a glass of wine, she’s surprised to find there’s nothing of the sort. No notes or calls from Danny, nothing missing, nothing disturbed, so where did he go? As Gemma works with the police who are also investigating the murders of men who resemble Danny, they start to look more and more at Gemma and her story, her alibis, and even her mental state. I enjoyed the book; it was an easy and interesting story for sure; however, once again the ending came in a bit cobbled together and unreal. I know this is fiction, after all, but it still needed to be a bit more believable. For my tastes, at least.

Special Note: Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Perfect Couple, grabs you right away when Gemma comes home to find her husband is not home. This book was a very fast read, it kept me guessing till the very end, one minute you think you have it figured out, and then the next you don’t. Looking forward to reading more from this author. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Gemma and Danny were married after a whirlwind romance and have recently relocated to have a better quality of life and think about starting a family. So when Danny doesn't come home one night, Gemma is frantic - they had no marital problems, spent all their time together, and were besotted - Danny wouldn't just leave her.

But when Gemma turns to the police, she finds they're more interested in her than in Danny. No one in their new neighbourhood has ever met Danny, or even seen him. And when the police contact Danny's new employer, they say he never took the job. But then it turns out hat there's a serial killer on the loose, and all the victims look like Danny. So is Danny in trouble...or is Gemma having problems of a different kind...?

While I did enjoy this book, there were a few problems with it, the first one being the characters. I could've shaken Gemma on several occasions (open your eyes, woman!!!) and Danny was a little bit pantomime villain for my liking (his confession to Gemma made my blood BOIL). That having been said, it was a gripping read, and I liked the fact that I genuinely had no idea who was responsible for what and who was lying for most of the book. The ending was a little far fetched (and I could've done without the last little 'reveal') but as long as you're willing to suspend your disbelief a little bit, this is a rollicking read with plenty twists and turns along the way. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to netGalley, who provided me with a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Gemma comes home from a work trip expecting dinner and cava to be supplied by her husband Danny, Instead she finds an empty house, empty fridge and no champagne reception. Over the next couple of days she sits at home and worries until she eventually goes to the police to report him missing. At first the police are inclined to be dismissive of what looks like being another missing person case but they change their mind when they see his photograph. He looks exactly like two young men who have been found murdered. Is Danny a possible third victim?

I enjoyed this book although it was ultimately unbelievable in many areas. The characters are on the whole sympathetic and reasonably well drawn and there are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
