After Ava’s Prize, I was excited to revisit Cari Lynn Webb’s City by the Bay Stories. In Single Dad to the Rescue, she brings Brooke Ellis and Dan Sawyer together (along with a little boy and a few furry friends) in the aftermath of a wildfire. Both have pain and hardship in their pasts and keep themselves well-guarded as a result. Yet, as attraction gives way to unexpected feelings, the romance between Brooke and Dan proves to one of growth and healing, courage and taking chances.

Though not without its complications, Single Dad to the Rescue is a sweet addition to Webb’s series. Any reader in need of a heartwarming contemporary romance could be delighted with this book—I know I was.

This was such an interesting story. Touching a lot of tender spots close to home. The fear of feeling the unknown of friends being safe in the fire-stricken areas in the California fires. Then, of course of losing people due to those who chose to get behind the wheel of a car.
But this author was able to bring you to a full circle on the positive side. We are following the life of Dan Sawyer and his son Ben. He’s a single dad with a lot on his plate. He is a paramedic, his ten-year-old son has diabetes, and his father Rick lives with them. Which in itself, is a good thing.
The thing is his parents had always taught him and his younger brother Jason to give service to his friends and community. So, he does, and he tends to overbook himself most days. Always managing to get it all in but leaving little time for himself.
Then with the wildfires in the mountains near San Francisco, the city where he lives his dad brings home a beautiful lady with her pets. She would be Brooke Ellis. She’s a widow and now a lady displaced by the fires and needs a place to stay.
Since he has a mother-in-law house in the back not rented at the moment, she is the perfect person to use it. She’s lost everything he really didn’t want her there because since his wife had left six years ago, he had finally gotten a routine down and Ben’s levels are good he didn’t need distractions.
When his ex and brother show up boy does, he gets distracted and guesses who is there to ground him during the crash site moment?
The characters seemed real and were easy to connect with. He accepted his brother back for my liking a little too easy, thanks, but that is just me. I give this: 4 stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

4 1/2 STARS!

An emotional journey of life, love and growth! Cari Lynn Webb pulls at our heartstrings time and again with the latest in her City by the Bay Stories series. Brooke meets the kindhearted Sawyer family just when she needs them most, and it turns out they need her too. The story is sweet with a punch of sadness and held my attention throughout. Really enjoyed the richness of the characters and the connection they shared. Highly recommend!

Brooke Ellis finds herself homeless and in need when a wildfire ravages her home. She basically has the clothes on her back and her collection of pets but nowhere to turn. The goodness of a stranger graces her when she meets a retired fireman who takes her to shelter.

Paramedic Dan Sawyer isn't thrilled to have the upheaval of pets in his home, but he's happy to help the displaced woman his father brings home. His young son is quite taken with her and her animals, bringing a warmth to their life that has been missing. When his flighty ex-wife returns, it's Brooke who helps pave the way to a cohesive life ... but who is going to ease Brooke's way back into living in the city that terrifies her if she can't bring herself to tell her secret?

Brooke is damaged but so is Dan. Each have their past that prevents them from moving forward, but love can and will conquer all. Ben and the pets bring their love full circle.

What a wonderful match up for Brooke and Dan. Don't forget Ben and all the animals. This was a heart warming joy of a story. Second chances can be so amazing and so was this book.
