The Mourning Islands is the first book I have read by this author and it was great. Suspenseful and a book that was hard to put down.

Great story telling!

Synopsis:
As a veteran of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia, Talmon Bonnett usually holds his PTSD at bay. When a wealthy couple hires him to spy on Rusty Wing, the man responsible for building the Mourning Island’s new resort, Talmon injects himself into Rusty’s inner circle. Lying about his intentions, Talmon gets to know Rusty’s troubled fiancée Claire, his sinister Cuban first mate Santos, and Marlene, Rusty’s alluring sister.

The main character is an Army Veteran Talmon, recovering from PTSD, and employed by a couple (the Barbours) apparently to check out Rusty, managing the construction of a huge, new and expensive island resort that they are part financing. He pretends to be a rich yacht owner and inveigles his way into the life of Rusty, his fiancée Claire and his sister Marlene. Of course, nothing is straightforward and the story turns to deceit by the Barbours, murder and the involvement of Rusty with a Cuban mobster family. It's a convoluted story but easy enough to follow the twists and turns making, as the description says, "an electrifying story". The characters are neatly developed and described, the locations - well, you can feel the sun and smell the sea. There are sea chases, scuttling, lost identity, some passion and tragic death. It has all the attributes of a good yarn. Thanks to NetGalley and TouchPoint Press for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
