3 Stars: 3/5 stars

This story is very intriguing but the suspense is just not quite there for me. I wanted a bit more excitement in the story. This is a quick read and a fun one though.
I received an ARC of this book from netgalley and Harlequin Intrigue in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Twelve years ago Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern worked at a Florida resort and found a murder victim hanging from an historic tree. Now, they are reunited at the same site and Brock is a FBI agent investigating missing young women and unknown murder victims. Will Maura and Brock have a second chance as a couple now after so many years? Will they be able to stop a murderer in time to prevent any more deaths?

Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an ARC; all opinions are my own.

Romance, suspense, and ghosts. Sounds like an interesting story. Two teenagers are in love when murder comes crashing down. One is arrested and quickly found innocent of any wrong doing. But his love is gone, having been whisked away by her parents for her safety.
Now twelve years later, they are brought back together as similar murders are happening.
This story sounded great, but I did struggle to get through it. I'm not sure if it was the pacing of just my mood, but I had a hard time staying focused. I have read from Heather Graham before and enjoyed her work. But for me this was just okay.

Haven't read a Graham book in a while but this one sounded good. Really glad I was able to get it. Well written, quick read, good characters.

“Tangled Threat” is a characteristic Heather Graham romantic suspense. A police procedural and second chance romance, “Tangled Threat” follows Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern who were teenage lovers once upon a time.

Now both adults with successful careers and Brock McGovern an FBI agent at that, they meet again where their love started and died. Twelve years ago, a murder occurred, and Brock was wrongfully accused.

Instead of standing by her man, Maura left, leaving Brock to deal with everything on his own. But, fate had other plans for them.

Maura was back at the same resort where she and Brock were young lovers when two women went missing. Brock was sent by the Bureau to investigate. As Maura and Brock faced off, they realized that their love never died.

Their love might have baggage attached to it, thanks to what happened a dozen years ago. Still, the chemistry between them cannot be denied. But, their love is once again tangled with a threat. So, before Maura and Brock can find their happily ever after, they have to solve the crime and neutralize the threat.

A fast and easy read, “Tangled Threat” will keep you guessing until the end with its so many twists and turn.

“Tangled Threat” is Rated T for Teens due to some violence.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

The premise of this book was a good one and I so looked forward to reading it. I loved the twist at the end. I totally missed the person's identity behind the kidnapping/murders. I did like the fact that the book was written in a dual POV format.

What I didn't like though seemed to really outweigh the good to me. First of all, the dialogue between the characters threw me off several times. I would have to go back and re-read entire sections to really follow it along. Also I really didn't feel the connection between the two main characters either.

This is the first time that I have read anything from this author and I was really looking forward to it. I don't know if this is an anomaly for her or it just didn't click with me. This isn't the first mystery, intrigue romance that I have read either.

I did LOVE the cover though!

Honestly, I struggled with this book and hesitated providing a review. I've read and enjoyed Heather Graham's books before and the premise for this one sounded interesting. I enjoy mystery/thrillers and romance with personal growth is always good too, especially when tied in with a mystery. Unfortunately for me, this book read like a Nancy Drew YA mystery. Everything seemed superficial. Conversation was stilted. Personal growth and information was lacking. Stories about the history of the area were repeated, I guess to make sure we understood them, but it made it difficult to keep my interest. In some ways, this was like an essay that needed to hit a certain number of words. I wondered if the author was struggling herself, to keep up with a schedule but without having a full plot or details. The version I read was an early review copy, so I'm hoping that there was revision to it. It felt much like an early draft with additional development needed, both in the mystery plot and in the rekindled relationship. I didn't particularly care if they got together. The twist at the end seemed to be hastily thrown in to wrap everything up. I delayed my review because I didn't have much nice to say about it, and I'm hoping this is just an "off" book or perhaps just not my cup of tea. I think that fans of Heather Graham who are looking for something to wile away their time may still enjoy this, but I'm hoping for more depth, more plot, and characters that I can care about the next time around.

NetGalley and the publisher provided this eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a murder mystery and a second chance romance all rolled up into one book. It was a quick read and although I liked the story, it was not as enjoyable as some other Heather Graham books. It's a fast paced story with many twists and turns that leaves you guessing until the end. Maura and Brock are likeable characters that you want to see get together in the end. It was a little hard to follow in the middle but I'm glad I stuck with it and finished this book. It was worth it! I am grateful to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I normally LOVE Heather Graham, but Tangled Threat was not my favorite, Maura Andy Brock were both meh, and it’s a second chance trope, which is admittedly not my favorite. For an amazing author, this just didn’t do it for me.

Romantic suspense supremo Heather Graham is back with a gripping, captivating and enthralling page-turner aficionados of the genre will devour in one sitting – just like I did. Tangled Threat is a brilliant tale of past sins, old ghosts and love lost and found written with all the confidence, style and flair for which Heather Graham is known for.

At eighteen years of age, Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern had been head over heels in love. Young, idealistic and full of great plans for the future, Maura and Brock’s future stretches brightly and promisingly ahead of them all and even though both shall be going to separate colleges, they are confident that their relationship will withstand any challenge and obstacle standing in their way. But Maura and Brock hadn’t counted on a gruesome murder taking place at the resort they were both working at during the summer which sees Brock wrongfully arrested for a crime which he did not commit. With Brock wrongly accused, Maura’s parents take her as far away from the scene of the crime as possible, leaving him to face the music all by himself. With his entire future in jeopardy, Brock is about to lose not just his freedom, but also the only woman he will ever love: Maura.

Over a decade has passed since that fateful day of the murder that changed Maura and Brock’s lives forever, however, neither party has managed to put the past or their relationship behind them. In the ensuing years, Brock has managed to exonerate himself and climbed up the ranks to become an FBI agent. When the resort where Maura and Brock had met and fallen in love in is hit with another vicious crime, Brock is asked by his superiors to go back to the scene of the crime and use his familiarity and history with the place to try to get to the bottom of this latest baffling mystery. Only Brock isn’t expecting to bump into Maura again who is at the resort for work purposes…

Thrown together by fate and united by a passion that simply cannot be denied, never forgotten feelings that have been buried for so long come rushing to the surface once again. Only Brock has never quite managed to forgive Maura for walking out on him in the worst moment of his life. As their feelings for one another intensify with each passing day, Maura and Brock begin to fall in love again, but with a dangerous enemy on the loose intent on maximum destruction, can they defeat a vicious criminal and have a second chance at happiness? Or is their love simply not meant to be?

Heather Graham is one of the most reliable names in romantic suspense and Tangled Threat is another surefire hit from this first class storyteller. Packed with red-hot passion, pulse-racing action, nerve-twisting suspense and nail-biting intrigue, Tangled Threat is a heart-pounding tale of second chances, first love and healing from the past guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seat reading all through the night.

With a gorgeous hero, a fantastic heroine, twists and turns aplenty, poignant romance and breath-taking suspense, Tangled Threat delivers on all counts and is another keeper by the fabulous Heather Graham.

Graham is among one of my favorite authors - I own quite a few of her works
Tangled Threat was written by her for the Harlequin Intrigue series
It has a solid story line though it gets slow in some scenes. It was a bit of mystery blended with a bit of history.
This one was not a big hit for me but it was not a major miss either.
I just did not find the characters that inviting - I didn't connect with them the way I normally would like.
Maybe if the story had been a bit longer? IDK - truthfully it just felt a bit rushed. A little incomplete?
This is me though and I like the twists and the near misses as well as a lot of detail to my reads.
The heat level is around a 1 then again it is more of a mystery with a second chance romance slipped in there so ..
Overall it was an enjoyable read just not one of my favorites

I've long been a fan of Heather Graham, so I know her storytelling is superb ... robust characters, great world building, exciting plots. TANGLED THREAT was good, but it felt like she left a lot on the cutting room floor, so to speak. I would've like a little ... more. Again, I wish there was a half-star option, because this doesn't ring as a full four, but it's definitely more than three stars. I think the format of the book itself restricted many of the things I was wishing for more of.

I feel like I should add a disclaimer before diving into this: I am not a great reader of contemporary romance. I like my heart to be torn to shreds by a book, not filled to bursting with wholesome sweetness or quickened by sexy people having sexy sex. With that in mind, it is necessary for me to acknowledge that this isn’t my kind of book, so to speak. My reading of it, and what I take away from it, will therefore be far removed from those who are a fan of the genre.

Lovestruck teens Maura and Brock are enjoying a summer romance while working at a hotel together, when the discovery of a body hanging from a historic tree during a campfire tour blasts them unexpectedly apart. Brock is falsely accused of murder, and despite his almost immediate exoneration Maura’s parents have already taken lengths to separate the two seemingly forever. About a decade later, their paths cross again: Maura as a video producer for an eccentric and flirtatious academic, and Brock as an FBI agent assigned to the very investigation which almost saw him incarcerated. It appears that there is a serial killer at work, and Brock has reason to believe that the case’s focal point is the hotel. Suspiciously, there is a whole gaggle of people still present from the old days, leaving Brock in no doubt that the perpetrator will not be a stranger to him. Despite their workloads, Brock and Maura frequently find themselves in each other’s company, and quickly discover that their shared sexual tension has not abated over time.

For a thriller, Tangled Thread does not move very quickly. It spends its first 150 pages setting up, which is entirely too long for a 250-page book. Disappointingly, the action-driven portion of the books begins and ends in the final twenty pages, all but eradicating any kind of tension. For a problem to be created and solved within minutes of reading time erases the stakes which this novel had genuine potential to possess. What happens to the victims is truly terrifying, and would have been an effective B-narrative if it had been dispersed throughout the novel, constantly reminding the reader that our protagonists are on a time limit. That is the nature of a good crime novel or thriller, surely: the thrill of the chase, the constant reminder that this mysterious person will kill again. Those feelings are not induced here – there is no danger to be felt because it only exists for about an hour’s worth of the novel’s time.

Despite the lack of heart-racing action I didn’t have a terrible time. It might not be to the standard I usually wish for, but that’s definitely a personal quirk. I can’t say that anyone who wants a quick afternoon read would be too upset with Tangled Thread. It rolls along easily, doesn’t give you too much to think about, and is framed through the perspectives of simple, likeable characters.

Maura and Brock were two teenagers in love, when something horrible happened at the Frampton Ranch and Resort in North Central FLorida, where they were both working for the summer, and Maura's parents kept them apart, making each believe that the other broke off their relationship. Twelve years later they meet again at Frampton, and quickly put their hurt feelings aside to see that they still cared. But evil is still lurking at Frampton. Maura, like the author is a talented storyteller and video producer while Brock, as planned became an FBI agent. Murder, suspense and romance are all woven into this "can't put it down" page turner. The author always incorporates her books with fascinating history, engaging characters and intriguing plots, making her one of my favorite authors. This one also gets tangled with another series.

I read an ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Tangled Threat is a Romantic Suspense novel that is heave on the Suspense. From the first page, I was sucked into the storyline and held in fascination until the very end. This second chance romance had just the right balance in true Heather Graham style. Excellent read.

Great book for this time of year. I enjoyed the mystery and the thrill ride. This is a second chance romance. The characters were separated years before by intervening parents. This had a contemporary romance feel with mild sex scenes. I admit I would have liked a little more heat, but of course this author always writes with perfection. The mystery had me intrigued and wanting more every page. I enjoy when an author gives you the history of where the story is taking place. Good read!! Look forward to more.

I used to be a big fan of Heather Graham so I was excited to read this. But it was tedious and annoying. Few of the characters were likable, and the story itself seemed to drag and be a bit unbelievable. Also, I'm from the real area in which the story is supposed to be set, and unfortunately, she didn't capture the reality of this area at all. That was a complete turn off for me.

I haven’t read a Heather Graham book in a long time and was so excited to get this copy of Tangled Threat! This was a quick murder mystery read with a second chance romance thrown in! .

Maura and Brock were young and in love when they were torn apart by a murder at the infamous History Tree, located at the resort where they worked. Brock was wrongfully arrested for the murder, but Maura’s parents had already removed her from the situation and the two never spoke again. .

When there is a series of disappearances of women that may be connected with the History Tree, Brock, now an FBI agent returns to town. Maura happens to be back in town working on story about the History Tree and when the two meet again, you can immediately sense the sparks between them. As Brock works to solve the mysteries, he and Maura start to grow close again. .

This is a fairly short book, so it wraps up pretty quickly. I was surprised by some of the elements that happened a little to fast for me or some of the things that happen in the end. I don’t want to give any details away but this is the perfect read for a road trip or a short flight! This one is available now and you can check out Harlequin.com for this and other great reads! .

Thank you to @HarlequinPublicityTeam and @HarlequinBook for this copy to read and review! .

I have enjoyed a number of Heather Graham's books and I found this story below her usual standards.

The book seemed patched together and it was more about Florida history with a lot of characters that weren't interesting to me. The romance and mystery seemed more of an afterthought. Brock and Maura didn't have much chemistry between them at first, and then all of a sudden they end up in bed together.

In addition, the climax of solving the mystery seemed rushed and farfetched. There were several details about the kidnappings and murders that just didn't make sense to me which I do not want to spoil here.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this book.

I want to thank Ms. Graham and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book with no expectation of a positive review.
