This book was both way too fast and way to slow. I have to say I didn't see the ending coming. In some ways this book was way too rushed and in others I didn't understand how they were going to actually solve anything so quickly yet they did. An old love that you though was lost is rekindled again after twelve years. I was surprised by a lot that did happen after twelve years. This is a good mystery with some interesting history/ghost stories mixed in.

Terrific book that sucked me in right from the start. It began with a prologue when Maura and Brock were eighteen-year-olds working at a local resort. They were in love and had plans for the future. But the horrific sight of a body hanging from the notorious History Tree, and Brock's subsequent arrest as a person of interest, derailed their plans. Even though he was released almost immediately, Maura's parents had taken her away. Now Maura is back at the resort filming videos and fighting the memories. Brock, who followed through with his plans and became an FBI agent, is sent to the resort to investigate the disappearance of several women and the remains of another.

I enjoyed the rekindling of the romance between Maura and Brock. They were stunned to see each other again after so many years. Their initial interactions were awkward. Brock remembered his heartbreak as Maura disappeared from his life, and she spent years hurt and angry that he never contacted her. But underneath the awkwardness and anger burned the feelings that never went away. I liked seeing them reconnect and get to know the people they have become since the events twelve years earlier. As they spent time together working on the disappearances, the chemistry and feelings between them continued to grow. Brock was protective of Maura and worried about her as the investigation heated up. Meanwhile, Maura worried just as much about him. I felt Brock's fear over Maura's safety at the end, and Maura's confidence that he would find her. I liked how they came together at the end, with their young love maturing to match who they are today.

The suspense of the story was very good. I was drawn in immediately by Maura's recounting of the story of the history tree and the ghost Gyselle. The descriptions were vivid, and I felt as though I was there. The terror at the sight of the hanging body leapt off the page. Twelve years later, FBI agent Brock was specifically requested to come to Florida to help with the investigations. That the person doing the requesting was the same detective who had arrested Brock was a nice touch, and gave an extra layer of déjà vu to the story. Maura arrived at the same time to do a video about the History Tree with her client. The presence of so many of the people from that previous summer gave Brock a wide variety of possible suspects for his investigation as it began to look like the resort was at the center of the disappearances. Every time I thought I had the villain figured out, someone else would make me question my decision. The tension increased as Brock moved closer to solving the crime, and he became especially concerned for Maura's safety. I was on the edge of my seat as his fears came to pass. I loved Maura's presence of mind and determination as she refused to become a victim. The final confrontation had an unexpected twist to it, as my suspicions about one character proved true, but I was blindsided by the involvement of another.

I liked catching up with the characters from that first summer. Besides the changes that Brock and Maura went through, it was interesting to see what transpired for the others. Some truly surprised me while others hadn't changed at all. I also liked the bit at the end about Brock's life in New York and his connection with Finnegan's.

This was a decent short book. I liked the characters of Maura and Brock. Their teenage love was broken by the arrest of Brock when a manager at the resort they worked at is found hanging from the History tree. Maura was whisked away by her parents. His misguided arrest was cleaned up and now twelve years later, Brock is an FBI agent in the New York office working under Egan (who you know if you read the NY Confidential series). He's sent on a case of missing women centered near his old hometown and the above mentioned resort in North Central Florida. Maura just happens to be staying there working with an internet sensation client. I figured out who did it early on, however, it wasn't revealed until the very end, so that helped. Ms. Graham's books are always heavy on romance but not this one. I was perturbed that the H and h didn't even speak until 49%, usually they're practically married by then. At least when the romance started, it was good.

Heather Graham is an author who has been around for a while. I remember reading her books in paperback long before I had an e-reader. Tangled Threat is her latest murder/missing women story. It has teenage angst, local Florida history, with misleads, revenge and innocent victims. Of course, there is romance and love too.

FBI agent Brock McGovern and Maura Antrim meet years after being at a resort as teenagers and finding a real body on a ghost tour. Now years later women are missing. The culprit must be stopped. Maura as returned to help with a video but there is much in their last time together that must be worked through as Brock works to save the lives of the missing women. Since it is a romance too, you can count on a happily ever after for the main characters.

The beginning is entertaining, holding my interest as the first hanging leads up to the new murder. As the story unfolds in present time the flow of the story slows. The ending is not as surprising since the author gives some clues along the way. Ii is an interesting story following most of the way of a Harlequin Intrigue. You get exactly what you expect in this line.

This book was a DNF for me. Sorry there will be no review going up online as i know how vital they are to authors around release. Sorry, but me and this book did not gel, and i have read this author before and loved her work :(

I have enjoyed Heather Graham novels in the past, but haven't read very many of them. This only my second Thriller/mystery of hers. I liked the idea of a Resort/Ranch in Florida steeped in all this history. It takes place in and around the surrounding area of St. Augustine. I live only an hour and a half from there and love the area. The synopsis of the story was interesting. It fell flat in some areas. The ending maybe a little obvious to some readers. I think die hard fans of Heather Graham will enjoy it. I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I will admit that for me reading Heather Graham is always a comfort read. I get into her right away and she can keep me with the story. I love that in the books I read. I will tell you that I haven't read one of her Harlequin Intrigue's in forever. Heck, I haven't read any of those in a long time.

More often than not I just love her books but this one was 50/50 for me. This is a good, well-written story that didn't 100% work for me. I liked the characters very much and felt they are the main reason to read it. As always Graham writing makes you feel like you are there. She does a wonderful job bringing the place to life. I love when you read a book and you can see it in your head.

At times I found that the plot drags and it brought down the book for me. I'm not saying that I did like the story, I'm saying it's not one of my favorites. I wish the book was longer because I think that would have helped it. She might have had the word count to read flesh everything out. I'm not into rating books with stars (I'd rather tell you what I think) but if I had to this is a 3-star book. Good, but not great.

All roads lead back to the Frampton Ranch and Resort. Brock McGovern is an FBI agent being assigned to help locate 3 women who have gone missing. He was requested due he was present 12 years ago when a murder happened and the local police think it is connected. Maura Antrim is back filming short video clips for a know writer. From the moment they see each other, old feelings are present like they never went away. It is a race against time. Both believe the key to solving it all is at the resort. Only it wasn't the cops or the FBI that figured it out, it was Maura. Wonderful story.

I’m going to try to keep this short because I don’t want this review to turn into bashing the author. This has taken me a while to write because I know this author has a lot of books under her belt and has quite a following. She’s a new-to-me author that I had high hopes for. Unfortunately, I just did not connect with this story at all. I kept waiting for things to turn around but it just never did.

The concept of this story is interesting and really had me looking forward to reading this book. I just didn’t feel the connection between any of these characters on any level. And I really struggled with the way the dialogue is written. It seemed very unnatural and stilted. On top of that, I felt as though there was quite a bit of repetition. Plus, I never really felt the suspense. I honestly didn’t care about the mystery.

Again, I don’t want to use this platform to bash anyone. Maybe this book is an anomaly in this author’s vast library. Or maybe I’m just not her audience. Whatever the issues, it just wasn’t a good fit for me.

I've always enjoyed books by Heather Graham and this one was just as enjoyable. I really like her writing style. There was a nice blend of mystery and some romance as well.

Brock and Maura were separated by murder for 12 years and then another brings them together. This is a slow moving suspense story that comes to a scary conclusion. There is a large amount of historical and geographic facts that go along with the stories. The characters are interesting and well formed. In the end there is romance and passion that survives the killing.

Heather Graham is one of my favorite authors with her Krewe being one of my favorite series. I guess I was expecting it to be more fast paced like that. The premise of the Tangled Threat is great, 2 teens torn apart by death, only to reunite again by a death. Love the lore surrounding St. Augustine and the History Tree. ARC provided by Netgalley, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was my first time reading this author, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised for how intriguing and compelling the plot was. The romantic subplot was beautifully constructed without overshadow the search for clues to solve the mystery. The whole time I was reading I was trying to figured the answer about who committed all those murders (and kidnaps), but I didn't see that end coming. And I loved that!

This book started out with an interesting concept. I liked the Florida lore, and how there was a parallel between what happened in the past and what was happening in the present. I also like how the author brought the characters back to the “scene of the crime,” albeit in different positions, 12 years after the fact. There were definite bones of a good story here (no pun intended). Unfortunately, the plot wandered about 2/3 of the way through, with the introduction of a strange piece of lore, a few seemingly pointed references that didn’t need to be included, and a muddled ending that is not as clear as it could have been. I ended with more questions than I had as I was reading the story. Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Intrigue, and the author for a complimentary, pre-release digital ARC of this book.

Twelve years earlier, Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern were camp counselors at the Frampton Ranch and Resort, they were eighteen, in love and had there futures planned, but then life threw them a curve ball. Maura told the ghost story that night around a campfire and then took everyone on the walk to the History Tree. When they get there they find someone has hanged one of the managers from the resort on the tree. Fast forward to the present and somehow, fate brings the two back together at the resort for two very different reasons.

Heather Graham is wonderful writer and storyteller. Her books always seem to have a way to get you hooked from the start and keeps you reading. In this book, the setting is Florida and since I live there it made the book all the more interesting because I could envision all the places mentioned.

I truly enjoyed this book and I thank #netgalley for allowing me to read this book.

Interesting murder mystery with a second-chance romance.

I enjoyed the complexity of the murder mystery aspect, especially as it was played out both in the present time and more than a decade previously. Maura and Brock make the most of their second chance, getting past all the misunderstandings and machinations that kept them apart. I wish there was more "showing" and less "telling," but other than that it was a worthy read. The HEA ties up all the loose ends nicely. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I was really excited to read this book by Heather Graham - I usually really enjoy her books so I jumped at the chance to review this one. Unfortunately, this one was really hard for me to get into. It felt like there was too much background information at the beginning that took away from the main plot - instead of enhancing it, it delayed the action. Also, I felt like the overall plot was just really choppy (especially at the beginning) and took away from developing the relationships of main protagonists - I really wanted more interaction between them. That being said, I still enjoyed the overall story line and the characters. I thought I knew who the antagonist was in the end and I was only partially correct, so there was an element of surprise for me. But this definitely wasn't my favorite book by this author so far.

This was an intriguing story that drew me in from almost the first page and kept me engaged throughout. There is plenty of suspense and drama and a very liberal dose of romance to keep you guessing until the very end

Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern are both working for the summer vacation at a local resort and are enjoying a summer romance together when everything comes to a screaming halt when a woman's body is found hanging from the history tree Brock was arrested as a person of interest and though he was released almost immediately by then Maura's parents had taken her away. Now twelve years later they have both returned Brock is now an FBI agent sent to investigate more murders in the area and Maure is a videographer . With Brock hot on the case Maura decides to help him and in the process all of the old emotions surface are these latest murders linked to the one in their past and will the danger draw them closer or split them a part.

Firstly, I thought the blurb for this book was fabulous and was ready to dive right into this romantic suspense and I really love them and have read some fabulous ones. I haven't read anything by this author before and I was looking forward to this story. But - not a good sign - the prologue was so boring. The story of a murder, a ghost and a History tree - should have been interesting, right? 💤 Then a body was found. And suddenly we cut to chapter one and the events of that day are relayed twelve years later via the internal thoughts of the H/h. After that there are chapters filled with more history lessons. We don't really find much out about the H/h re character development, so very sad about that. Maura and her friend are followed with precise precision and we know everything they do, everything they tell people and everything they see. Even the blurb on the video shoots are relayed word for word. 💤

Now I will say the writing was excellent and if I were reading a historical book about the state of Florida and its legends, then this book hit the spot. As a suspense/romance it failed. No romance till around 60% in and when it finally happened it fell so flat and underwhelming that I skimmed it. There was no slow burn and no sizzle at all between Maura and Brock. I also admit that I skipped to the end at this point to find out who the murderer was, because I couldn't read any more, as it was 'doing my head in'. So - sorry to the author for my review as this is what I truly thought. There were also so many side characters and so much inner dialogue that I didn't really care to know who the murderer was, but I checked anyway. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Boosted from one star to two, because of the writing quality.

This was an interesting story. I liked the idea of a Resort/Ranch in Florida steeped in all this history. It takes place in and around the surrounding area of St. Augustine. The characters are well developed and the story flows. Maura and Brock met at the ranch while they were working there for the summer when they were approx. 18-19. They left after a horrific incident took place; that changed the course of their lives. They return 12 years later; amidst stories of young women going missing. Can they perhaps solve the recent missing persons/remains and solve the 12 year-old mystery?

This was a fast-paced book that kept my interest right up to the end. I feel that this story could have been expanded into a much longer novel with more information and details that would have made it an even better intrigue novel. Not that I didn't like it as is; just that personally I would have appreciated some additional, more in-depth character development of some of the minor characters; as well as the main ones.
