This book was excellent! The beginning started a bit slower fir me, but it all made sense as I kept reading. I highly recommend it. Great character development, great history of Florida, also.

An interesting and ready to read romantic suspense from one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed both the mystery (which had me guessing to the end) and the second-chance romance. And the other characters were perfect as red herrings.
Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.

New to this author, Brock and Maura have a history. As teens they witness something that tears them apart. 12 years later they are back to the same area were it all started. Their story is full of suspense and a who did it.? I Gave this book 4.5 stars. This was an ARC that I received from Net Gallery.

This was just an ok book by Heather Graham. To be honest I was disappointed. I’ve read a lot of her books and while the ending was a partial surprise, I had guessed most of the ending by 40% or less of this story. I found the “location” of where the story takes place to be so messed up in relation to Google Maps that I had to laugh. (Only used google maps as a guide to check my memory, as I have spent more time in Florida than most) It had a nice haunted feel so those into paranormal stories would like the legends but it’s entirely fictional. There were 2 intimate scenes that were tactfully done if even a bit rushes. ie if I finally reconnected with my one true love acts 12 years I doubt it would be a wham, bam, thank you mam, kind of situation.

Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern were still in high school and working at the Frampton Ranch and Resort in Florida. The resort was known for its History Tree and it’s ghost tours. Maura was a natural with the storytelling of how Gyselle had been murdered and hung from the History Tree. On this particular night after she had completed her storytelling, she escorted the group to the History Tree, only to find one of her Supervisors, Francine Renault, dead and hanging from the tree. Of course, many of the guest thought this was a staged effect and started to laugh, until they heard Maura scream. Chaos soon erupted and the police were called to the scene. In the midst of the chaos Brock was led away in handcuffs and arrested. Maura’s family immediately picked her up from the facility, and basically told her she could not have anything to do with Brock, since he had been arrested for murder. Fast foreword 12 years, and Maura is back at the Frampton Ranch and Resort, filming with a famous personality, Angie Parsons, whose niche happens to be strange and violent happenings at Florida historic landmarks and ghost related stories. The only downside to this particular project, is that there are three girls who are missing. There were also remains of two women that were found in the area as well. They all had something to do with either coming or going to the Frampton Ranch and Resort. Brock who had been released many years ago and wasn’t charged with the murder of Francine, has followed his dream of becoming an FBI Agent. Since he was so familiar with the area, his Supervisor requested that he take this case. It’s really uncanny that both Maura and Brock are back at the very place where their romance had kindled. Why are these girls missing? Who is kidnapping them? What is the motive? There are approximately 5 individuals who are currently working at the Ranch, and were also young adults at the time of Francine’s murder. Could any of these individuals be the murderer? Will Brock be able to follow the clues and find the murderer, before anymore remains are found? Will Maura and Brock be able to salvage their relationship from so long ago? This book definitely had a great plot and the characters were so realistic. This book kept the reader in the dark and intrigued until the very end. I enjoyed this book immensely.

This was a great, fast-paced read that I couldn't put down. Maura and Brock were each others first love when a murder occurred at the resort where they were working. They lost contact after that. Twelve years later, young ladies were disappearing near and around the resort and a couple were murdered. Brock, now FBI, is called in to investigate because of his knowledge and history with the area. That's where he meets up with Maura who's work has also taken her to the resort. Memories and unresolved feelings are needing to be faced and new feeling discovered all the while a murderer is on the loose and needs captured.
Exciting and romantic. A lovely story of first love, true love.

I enjoyed this book very much. I love thrillers and she has written this one very and kept the characters so you didn't get lost. You have two detectives and FBI agent. Detective Flannery wants back when he was young thought arresting the FBI agent Brock. Now they all try to figure out what how to solve the murders once and for all. It was very interesting to read and follow along. It was a book I would reccomend others to read.

Tangled Threat is a Harlequin Intrigue title written by one of my must read authors Heather Graham. At a little over 250 pages, the author manages to squeeze in a good dose of romantic suspense. Maura Antrim returns to the History Tree, the site of a murder from twelve years before, as a videographer documenting the history of the area. Brock McGovern walks in out of her past. Arrested and released for the murder, Brock hasn't seen or heard from Maura since that fateful night. Now an FBI agent investigating disappearances, Brock begins to dig into what really happened twelve years before. A second chance at love and ever looming danger keep the pages flowing before delivering a sweet HEA in the speedy Harlequin formula Intrigue readers have come to expect and love. The whodunit is not totally unexpected but does have a little twist for added thrills. Ms. Graham delivers exactly what I expected to enjoy with her name in the Harlequin Intrigue line of books. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

This was a mysterious tale, that starts in the past and continues in the present. Brock and Maura met and fell in love when they were teenagers, working together at an old historic resort in Florida. When a tragic murder happens, they get ripped apart and lose touch. 12 years later, bad things are happening again, and Brock and Maura are back together again, making up for lost time and trying to save the missing women and solve murders. Lots of excitement and keeping you guessing until the end!

Intrigue, suspense, twists and true love make for an exciting, page turning story. Heather is an amazing writer and I can't wait for her next book.

I was excited about this book at first because it hits all my happy points: FBI guy, murder mystery, romance, deranged serial killer running around, southern setting. I happily started reading it before my other TBR books because I'm a simple creature.
It starts off well, a body is found hanged by the History Tree by the two main characters, Maura and Brock, when they were teenagers. Brock was briefly arrested for the crime and Maura's family whisked her away to South Florida and away from Brock. Twelve years later, Brock and Maura are reunited because of their work. Brock is now an FBI agent and Maura is a videographer. I liked the videographer angle, I'm not sure I've read about another romantic female lead with that career.
The author seemed to have done a lot of research into the northern part of central Florida for her setting as she has very clear, descriptive settings. They're very well thought out. To me, the best writing comes from when she's talking about the history of the History Tree, the marketplace in St. Augustine or the history of some of the historic houses and their residents.
What I didn't like was the romance between Brock and Maura. It seems kinda rushed and without any chemistry. Perhaps because of the length of the book, but I wished more time was spent here setting up Brock and Maura as a couple. It comes off a bit flat and felt like a checkmark on a to-do list.
The other thing I was a bit let down by was the mystery aspect. Brock has come back to Florida because the FDLE (state police) have requested him to help solve a string of disappearances that might be linked to a serial killer (possibly the same one that killed the woman hanged from the tree). It gets wrapped up at the end (94% of the way through the book) but not in a way that I found satisfying. I was mostly unsure why the killing even happened because the resolution was so rushed. I wish this plot had been better structured.
Sadly, this wasn't for me but I think others might find the setting fascinating. If murder plots make you squeamish then this book might be perfect as the murder-mystery is more of a tertiary plot point.

I wanted to love this one, I really did. Usually a combination of two of my favourite genres, romance and mystery is something that I really enjoy, but for some reason, this one just fell a bit flat.
Firstly the mystery aspect. While there was an interesting storyline, with a parallel murder, or in fact two, in the past, for some reason it was all just a bit flat. I think that it might be, at least in part because it all seemed a bit rushed. The book was short and there wasn't really time to build the story and the mystery in quite the way that I would have liked. I had figured out who was behind it all and why quite early on, or at least half of it. When the big reveal came, in all honesty, it just didn't make much sense.
When it came to the romance side of things, again, I think this suffered because of the speed with which the story progressed. There was little chemistry between the two of them and they go from not having seen one another for 12 years, to nothing has changed.
This book was an easy read and I didn't hate it, but I had expected enjoy it so much more than I did, which means that ultimately it was really quite disappointing. I think that a longer book with a bit more development of both the mystery and the romance would have been much better.

I have always been a big Heather Graham fan, but it’s been quite some time since I’ve read anything by her just because I’ve been seeking out new authors. It was a great return to a loved author! Predictable, well the love story part, but the mystery part, not so much! The author does a great job as always of building the relationship between characters and we focus on that, meanwhile you’ll be shocked at “who done it!”
If you are a fan of the author or a reader looking into this genre, you won’t be disappointed!! Worth your time and paying to read, you won’t be disappointed!

After reading the synopsis I was very excited to read this romantic thriller. However, for me, it was slow to develop and seemed to lack overall strength in the storyline and plot twist. A quick read, but not great.

This is an interesting book. I enjoyed all the history and storytelling. I never guessed the ending or the bad guys. Another great book by Heather Graham #TangledThreat #NetGalley

As a huge Heather Graham fans this one was a bit of a disappointment. the story drags a bit without a to of dialogue and too much description of past events.

The premise of the book is promising, the execution, not so much.
Except for some tedious re-telling of the same Gyselle story, the first part of the book kept me entertained. Unfortunately between the poor format the lackluster romance, and really the non-urgency of anyone to solve the crimes, the second half of the book was just a let down.
Hopefully the formatting issue was just the ARC I received and will be fixed when the book is released, but it made for some difficulty in understanding what was going on in some of the scenes. At one point, I think a whole section or even chapter was left out because the scene just didn’t make any kind of sense.
The romance between Brock and Maura was not believable. For them to have been estranged for 12 years and supposedly have animosity because of it, they fell into bed super quick, with nothing resolved other than “I did write you” and “Oh I guess my parents hid that from me.” It seems other people had to keep reminding everyone that they were “so in love”, because I couldn’t see it.
Again, there had to be a chapter or something missing, because the big reveal at the end, was out of nowhere. I had kinda figured out some of it, but the other part just seemed manufactured out of nowhere. Somehow, Maura just figured it out on her own, like an epiphany. And then they live Happily Ever After… in New York.
One good thing, I know A LOT about the state of Florida.
ARC received from NetGalley for an honest review.

A mystery/thriller about women who have gone missing in Florida. Could the missing women be related to a murder mystery from 12 years ago?
I found that the amount of characters in the story to be a bit overwhelming. Overall, a ok mystery/thriller with some romance thrown in.
I received this book from NetGallery in exchange for my true and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an advance poorly-formatted ebook edition of this book from NetGalley. I do hope they are able to fix the messed-up formatting before releasing the book for general publication.
Other reviewers have referred to the allegedly haunted places mentioned in the story, but this book did not actually contain any bona fide other-worldly manifestations. So if a reader is looking for the paranormal, this might not be the best choice of reading material for them. The missing paranormal elements did not factor into my opinion of the book, because somewhere on the way to adulthood I lost any taste I might have once had for ghost stories.
Other reviewers have mentioned the teenage lovers torn apart 12 years in the past, and I found their almost instantaneous rekindling of their romance a bit unbelievable. There were just too many misunderstandings that needed to be ironed out first, in my opinion, before they, um, got busy, and they held the "why didn't you ever contact me" conversation far too late.
I did not actually guess who the killer was before the big reveal, but had narrowed down the list of suspects considerably by that time, because in time-honored murder mystery tradition, it's never the person that the protagonist suspects, so any time suspicion was thrown on a secondary character, I crossed that person off the murderer list.
I read through the book to the end, just to see how the author would resolve things, but I found it difficult to have any empathy for the characters. Others' mileage will certainly vary, though.

Tangled Threat is a book with a really cool premise and an execution that didn’t quite get there. I love the idea two people with history as teenagers brought back together by a crime with eerily similar circumstances as the one that initially tore them apart, especially when one of them is now an FBI agent. I will say that it was a very quick read, so that was enjoyable. My problem is that the leads in this book have little to no chemistry! Their first real conversation takes place almost halfway through the book, and that’s the only conversation that they have before falling back into bed together. They barely have any conversations after that too, instead they just discuss the murder mystery going on at the resort they’re staying at. We’re supposed to believe that they’re each other’s true love but we never see any way that they actually complement each other, just that they remember being in love. There’s just no romantic tension. The romance absolutely takes a backseat to the mystery, which also isn’t that interesting.
I would also say that a lot of the writing in this book is redundant. We’re told about the details of the murder case that this book revolves around in the very first chapter, and then we get to hear those same exact detail retold over and over again maybe six different times to other characters. I guess each time was supposed to add a little more information and detail, but god it was boring. Also boring were the several long passages where characters remind the reader that Florida is more than just beaches, but also only ever mention the same other things besides beaches. It was just very repetitive. The dialogue was also weirdly stiff in a lot of places, and many times characters say things that normal people would never phrase that way.
Finally, I think that the big twist in the very last section was delivered by the characters with less enthusiasm than they would have ordering a pizza. It felt very much like there was a specific major reveal planned and then they decided to throw another thing on top just because, and it read very flat. There just wasn’t that much emotion.
