Really loved this collection, and I knew I would when I saw Carmen Maria Machado had blurbed it. It felt so visceral, so close to the earth. like it cared as much about nature as a character as anything else. Really glad I read this, I still think about the last story and I finished it months ago.

Sorry for the delay in my review, life has gotten in the way.

this was an unique collection of short stories... i'm not sure i truly understood or follwoed some of them. as with any collection, some were not so great.. others were fantastic.

This is an excellent short story collection that I thoroughly enjoyed. As is often the case with collections, some stories are stronger than others, but that's not to take away from what Wortman-Wunder has accomplished here. Her characters are complex and fascinating and the writing is top-notch. Many of the stories deal with aspects of the natural world and I appreciated that connective tissue that serves to keep the collection moving and feel intentional. I also like how the stories vary; no one seems like a copy or shadow or another. The author has a firm grasp of her material and comes across as careful and detail oriented. I look forward to reading other books by Wortman-Wunder.
