Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A woman is killed outside her house one night and her finger nail is painted the same shade of pink that another woman, who went missing a few years ago, often wore and sent to the missing woman’s best friend. DI Gina Harte investigate the murder and the disappearance to try to figure out the link and the culprit.

I liked this book. I think I probably should have loved it because it was a good police procedural with lots of shady people, but for some reason I would put it down and wasn’t that concerned about getting back to it. I think possibly there were too many characters to keep straight which is a pet peeve of mine and keeps me from loving a book. Also I picked up the series at book 4 and think I would have been better picking it up at book 1 to better understand the Gina Harte character. But I did find her interesting. I thought she was sort of like Angela Marsons’ Kim Stone and or Robert Bryndza’s Erika Foster. Based on that, I may think about reading the previous books in the series or the next one.

Not sure what to say about this book, it was fine, but too much following the formula, first chapter inside the mind of the murderer, then introduce the main character etc................ so while it was moderately interesting, it also became forgettable almost after finishing

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Ok let me say this I love this author but this book I didn't enjoy.

What I like about this book is the character Gina Harte she strong but a emotional mess.

In this book you have a murder victim Jade we found out her and her husband Noah went to a party that was wife swap. In Gina investigate she found out her ex brother in law Steven was there and to top it off she had a thing with this guy Rex that he started to become obsess you could tell Gina and Briggs still feelings for each other.

Then a woman name Diane receive a envelope with a fingernail painted pink and she believes it could be her friend Samantha who disappear a while ago when result come in the fingernail belong to Jade and they realize the killer might have kill Samantha. Then you have Amiee who attend the party right along with Jade who everyone wanted seem to have someone watching her.

I find this book boring that I skip chapters just so we can get to the part where they found the killer because I already figure it out it was sad how Diane had to do things to survive and I like that Gina offer her friendship.

I'm rating this 4 stars because I like the character of Gina and plus I don't like odd numbers. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Enjoyable read, kept the reader guessing till the end. A story of lust an infatuation which was never going to end well. Lots of twists and turns, but eventually all unfolds.

DI Gina Harte is a detective who can emphasise with her victims, she is also a woman trying to escape the ghosts of her past while attempting to keep her career on track. Although she doesn't know it at the time, when she looks with sadness at the body of Jade Ashmore all the various strands of her life are about to come crashing down on her.

There are no shortage of suspects including those who attended the same party as Jade or had reason to want their links to her kept quiet but when a clue appears which brings a case from seven years earlier into sharp focus it changes everything. Gina and her team struggle to find the killer knowing there is every possibility he will strike again if they don't move fast but how many of her secrets will be unearthed in the process?

I may be a little naive but the number of like-minded partygoers in such a small area seemed a bit of a stretch and there appeared to be a lack of anyone who had very much going for them that wasn't negative in the extreme.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who has read the previous books or enjoys a character driven murder mystery.

Wow what an absolutely fantastic read. I love this series and this one didn’t disappoint. It kept me guessing right the way through! It was a dramatic and thrilling book with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing who the bad guy was. Carla Kovach has outdone her self on this one it was brilliant. This series gets better with every book and I don’t hesitate in giving it 5 stars.

I did not read any of the other books in the series, but this did not impact my ability to understand or follow the story. This book was told from multiple perspectives with easy transitions. Women are being abducted, and Detective Gina Hart must figure out who is doing this. There is also references to a missing woman from years prior. Overall, 4 stars. Special thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Fantastic police procedural starring DI Gina Harte and her team. I love the character and back story of Gina with her difficult past and messy love life. This is a great story that I read in one sitting. As with all great who dunnits I suspected all of the characters, yet didn't spot the actual perpetrator. Fabulous plotting and great pace, with well written characters.

This book is the 4th in the Gina Harte series and there is some pro's and con's about this book. The pro's - like the main character Gina, like the story line (very different ) and like the mystery. The con's- Gina although a great character she is getting a bit annoying when it comes to her relationships with anyone in her life. She is portrayed as a great strong take charge detective but a very weak female when it comes to non working relationships . Another con this book was slow. I am used to this series being a fast paced suspenseful series and this book fell short. So all in all I would say it was a decent book not the best in the series but I am hoping if there is another book in the series the author will kick it up a notch like her previous books in this series. I would recommend reading this series each book has a very unique story line .

Another great read from Carla and enjoyed reading more from D.I. Gina Harte, well written as usual with good characters.

I can thoroughly recommend this book and all in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Detective Inspector Gina Harte is back in the fourth book of this series. The novel can be read as a stand-alone as Kovach provides a gracious amount of contextual material on the main characters. The plot is intricate, intertwining Harte’s past with one of her current cases. This book readily allows readers of the series to appreciate the character arc that Kovach has developed with some of the key characters. In addition, the mystery and foreshadowing underpinning the plot line is captivating. It gives the reader that bit of trepidation that is so often sought after within this genre. Great read. 5 stars.

Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #TheLiarsHouse

I just couldn't really get into this book and found myself skipping pages. This was partly due to the brutality of the storyline and partly because I just couldn't like the main character.
It's the first book I've read of this series, so, possibly if you're a fan of the series it's different.

For me, sorry, it's a no.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview.

The Liar’s House by Carla Kovach is a continuation of her Gina Harte series. I really liked Her Pretty Bones, I recommend you read that one while you wait for this to come out, I was totally hooked on that story.

Like I’ve mentioned, I am very picky about following a series but I enjoy the Gina Harte books since the mysteries are so compelling and it’s not the same thing over and over again. I like to see a fresh plot, something I haven’t read a million times before!

Here’s what you need to know:

Seven years after Samantha’s disappearance, on what would have been her thirty-fifth birthday, her best friend Diane is shocked to find a letter addressed to Samantha on her doorstep.

Opening the envelope, Diane pulls out a birthday card and a fingernail painted in dusky pink nail polish. The same shade Samantha always wore. The same shade she was wearing the night she went missing.

When police analyze the nail, they don’t get the result they expected. Instead of linking them to Samantha, the nail belongs to another woman, Jade Ashmore. And Jade was murdered the night before the envelope was delivered….

I am looking forward to starting this book and know that once I begin it, I won’t want to stop reading.

Pre-Order now, just $3.99! Less than the cost of a movie ticket and much better!

This is book four following Detective Gina Harte as the main character. Sven years ago Samantha goes missing and then suddenly her friend Diane gets a birthday card from her. Or also contains a pink fingernail which belongs to a woman murdered the night before.
This was great read and I liked how the story unfolded. Each book gives you mor3 detail into Gina’s back story which further explains how she responds. I will be watching out for book five!

Another fantastic crime thriller by Carla Kovach featuring Detective Gina Harte. I you have never read the series, you my friend are missing out. It as a fast paced read, the story flowed seemingly, (told from the main characters point of view), I am not found of books that change the p.o.v on every chapter. It was interesting and entertaining. I love how the author makes you feel as if you are there in each page as the story unfolds. It was a fresh, not the average whodunit book. It was addictive British crime fiction, that I so love. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

It has taken me a while to read this book because I found the subject matter difficult. That is not to say it’s a bad thing, it is just out with my comfort zone which you have to do sometimes!

I stopped the book, read something a little less brutal and came back to it.

What makes it so different is the description of violence and gruesome scenes. I also don’t really like the main character but I think that’s intentional?!

I think the writing is good and the premise was interesting but not sure I’d read any more in the series.

Well, that blurb enticed me to read the book and then the prologue just dragged me in and deposited me right inside the twisted mind of the killer. I was trapped, there was to be no escape until the final page was turned!
This is the fourth in the DI Gina Harte series. I have to confess that I have only read the first one, The Next Girl. However, this did not in any way detract from my enjoyment of the book. It only served to remind me that I need to get myself over to Amazon to buy the other two to read!
The Liar's House opens in 2012 with a murder before swiftly jumping to the present day. Murder is not the only theme explored in this darkly disturbing novel. Coercive relationships and emotional abuse are all covered in a heart-stopping, nail-biting narrative that will make your skin crawl at times. I won't say too much about the plot but it left me feeling heart sorry for the women involved in the story, watching them being pushed into a seedy life they did not want to be a part of. It was haunting.
Let's talk characters though. DI Gina Harte, I bloody loved her in book one, and although I've a slight gap in her story, I bloody love her even more after reading The Liar's House. She is flawed but strong, determined but complex and I found it difficult not to get caught up in her life. She has many secrets from her own past, her life with an abusive husband, that continue to haunt her in the present in the shape of his family; her relationship with her daughter teeters on the brink of disaster and her personal life is a mess. But still she rises, still she focuses and still she fights for justice every day. We learned more about her relationship with her late husband Terry and it is a tough read at times. Exploring the very real impact that domestic abuse can have long after it has ended.
Relationships with her colleagues are also intriguing and in The Liar's House, we watch as she struggles to deal with the feelings she has for one of the team, a relationship she believes will push all professional boundaries. I found myself screaming at the pages, wanting her to let down the barriers and find herself some happiness.
There were plenty of characters in this novel who made my blood boil and my skin crawl and when Gina's personal life becomes embroiled in the current investigation then the tension became unbearable. So many suspects and so many creeps and I didn't work out who it was until the very end!
A tightly knitted plot, full of suspense and a whole lake full of red herrings swimming around, The Liar's House, kept me hooked from start to finish. Perfectly paced and engaging characters meant that I was wholly invested in reading to find out what happened next and now I'm just dying to read book number five (and I am going to go and catch up with books two and three!).
My review will be on the blog as part of the blog tour

DI Gina Harte is back on the case of a murdered woman after a swingers party. With lots of suspects and people involved it looks like her past is back to haunt her again. Add to this a very dodgy one night stand showing up time and time again Gina is struggling. This book is showing another side to Gina, she is very vulnerable and slightly depressed which really made her appear softer than the usual hard faced DI I love which was a fantastic element. I know this series will just keep going and keep getting better! Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

***TRIGGER WARNING*** Domestic Abuse

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookoture and Carla Kovach for the chance to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

DI Gina Harte and her team are back for the fourth book in this fantastic series and the ominous tone is set from the start.

Samantha Felton is being watched by a man taking pictures at the local social club. She knows he’s watching and is enjoying putting on a show with another man on the dance floor. What she doesn’t know is that the man behind the camera thinks she needs to be taught the error of her ways and is taken by surprise as he attacks her as she leaves the club.

Seven years later Jade Ashmore is making the short walk home after a party when she’s suddenly aware of footsteps behind her. She hopes the person will pass but instead she’s attacked and knocked unconscious. Her attacker is disturbed by a late night dog walker but it’s too late for Jade.

Diane still misses her best friend Samantha and thinks of her often. What happened to her seven years ago? On Samantha’s birthday she finds a card addressed to her friend hand delivered to her house. Inside is a sinister greeting in cut out letters and a finger nail painted in the same shade Samantha always wore. She calls the police and DI Gina Harte attends the call. When the nail is analysed they’re all shocked to discover it belonged to Jade, not Samantha. Could the two cases be linked? Why is someone reminding them about Samantha after so long? And why did they attack Jade?

The two cases become linked when Jade’s finger nail is found in a birthday card addressed to Samantha that was delivered to her best friend, Diane, the same day Jade was killed. But why now after seven years? There are multiple suspects and very few clues in this gripping thriller.

Carla Kovach has done it again. She’s written another riveting installment in what is one of my favourite police book series. As Gina and her team search for the man responsible for Jade’s murder, and possibly Samantha’s disappearance, there seemed to be two or three suspects that emerged. Despite this the team are mostly working with hunches and circumstantial evidence as real clues to the culprit evade them.

At the same time Gina’s personal life is causing problems when a man she recently went on a date with refuses to take no for an answer, won’t stop messaging and keeps turning up unannounced. To add to her problems she finds her past and present are entangled in her latest case and threatening the reputation she’s spent years building.

Themes of domestic abuse and stalking are handled with raw honesty throughout the book. We see the way these men control their partners through fear, using it to coerce them into doing things they don’t want to just to please them. The reader is again shown the long-lasting psychological damage of abuse through Gina’s character, and how even decades after freeing yourself of the relationship you can still be haunted by it. The author is skilled at writing domestic abuse, in all its forms, in a way that helps the reader understand these women, why they stay, why they take desperate courses of action and do the various things we see them do to protect their abusers.

The Liar’s House is what we’ve come to expect and love from this series: complex characters, brutal, gruesome murder scenes and great writing. This novel was particularly skillfully written and ingeniously plotted. I can’t wait for book five!
